Gavriel’s POV

Ryan, my Beta, walked into my study without knocking and dropped Sparrow’s photographs over the border report I was reading.

I stopped writing.

Her face stared back at me from the photograph on top. She was sitting upright in the hospital bed, her hair loose around her shoulders, and although the months she had spent unconscious had changed her, her eyes were open.

Ryan remained across the desk, studying my reaction. “She woke up this morning,” he said, tapping one finger against

Nothing on the balcony had changed since the night my mother fell, but I returned there with questions I should have asked before Sparrow was ever punished. The doors stood open behind me while I walked toward the railing and studied the place where Mother had gone over. For months, I had repeated the same version of events whenever doubt tried to enter my thoughts. Sparrow argued with my mother, anger took over and she pushed my mother. Mother fell, screaming Sparrow’s name before hitting the ground.I had treated those facts as though they explained everything, but right now, they did not.I rested my hands against the railing and looked at the ground below, remembering where Mother had been lying when I found her with blood covering the stones beneath her while Sparrow stood above, staring down in horror. At the time, that horror had meant guilt to me. But right now, I wondered what else it might have meant.I moved across the balcony, placing myself where Sparrow had stood when I

“She brought the tea from your kitchen,” I continued. “At least, that is what I believed. She had access to the uniform and knew so much about your house to behave like she belonged here.”Felix pushed himself up from the chair. “I need to speak with my security.” Before he could move away, I reached out and gripped his wrist. He stopped and looked down at my hand.“Where are you going?” I asked.“To find out how a stranger entered my house, reached your bedroom and poisoned you without anyone stopping her.”“You can do that after you answer me.”His eyes moved back to my face. “What do you want to ask?”I hesitated because fear had already begun growing inside me before the question left my mouth. “How long have I been here?”Felix did not reply. He looked toward the window and that hesitation made my heart raced faster. “How long, Felix?”He returned his attention to me. “Four months and three weeks.”My hand loosened from his wrist and all I could do was stare at him while my mind

The steady beeping beside me was the first thing my mind recognized. I tried to open my eyes, but my eyelids barely obeyed. Pale light filled the room beyond them, blurred enough that I could not tell where I was or why my head hurt so badly. An ache pressed against the back of my skull and spread toward my temples, while the rest of my body responded so slowly that I could barely tell whether I was moving at all. When I tried to lift my right hand, a tug near my wrist stopped me. Thin tubes were attached to my arm, running toward machines beside the bed, and a plastic mask covered my nose and mouth. Cool oxygen flowed through it while I struggled to make sense of everything around me. I searched my memory, forcing myself past the confusion until events of what happened before I lost consciousness began returning. Eva had entered my bedroom with tea and claimed Felix hired her. I had believed her because she wore the household uniform and spoke like someone worried about losing a n

A forceful cramp seized my stomach before I could put the cup down.My hand moved to my abdomen while I waited for the pain to ease, but it only grew stronger, spreading beneath my ribs until breathing became difficult, the cup trembling between my fingers.I looked at Eva.She remained beside the door with her arms folded, watching me without any trace of the nervousness she had shown when she entered.“What did you put in this?” I tried to rise from the bed, but another spasm forced me forward.Eva said nothing, and her smirk widened. My skin became damp while the room began shifting before my eyes. I placed the cup on the nearest surface before it slipped from my hand and tried once more to stand but my legs barely supported me.I managed one step before a cough tore through my chest. I covered my mouth, and when I lowered my hand, blood coated my palm. For a while, I could only stare at it, not believing how coated the blood was.Another cough followed, bringing more blood. Fear s

Sparrow’s POV“Is that even possible?”I stared at Felix from across the sitting room, trying to understand how he could speak so casually about moving into the WinterMoon packhouse when returning there could get me killed. For nine years, I had served as Luna and learned the laws well enough to argue with elders who had spent most of their lives enforcing them. Banishment was not a punishment that disappeared because circumstances changed. Gavriel had stripped me of my title before the council, cast me out of the territory and ordered my death if I returned. Marrying his younger brother did not erase that sentence, no matter how confidently Felix spoke about it.Felix rested one hand against the back of a chair and watched me without showing the slightest concern. “With me, anything is possible,” he said. “You only have to trust me and follow my lead.”I folded my arms. “That is exactly what worries me. Your brother wants me dead, your mother hates me, the pack believes I tried to ki
