2: Slipped

Vanessa Lyre's P.O.V.

"You mean someone helped you get your bag back? Is that right?"

I nodded. "Yes. He was the one who almost ran over me. I was also wrong because I suddenly crossed. I was so nervous, I thought I was really going to crash. Fortunately, he was able to brake in time."

"You know what Vanessa, it's a good thing you weren't run over. It's still expensive for a funeral. I don't have a funeral for you just in case. You know we don't have the money. Even though it's just the two of us, we're still running out of money to buy rice. We are always short of money."

Aunt Bia walked over to the couch. She picked up the remote and then watched.

"All right, Auntie. I'm leaving. I'm going to apply for a job. I'll go ahead."

She nodded. "All right. I hope you'll be hired. Take care, Vanessa."

I left our apartment and waited for a bus. Tita Bia and I are just the two of us living together. Tita Bia was unlucky to have children, so her boyfriend left her. While I was happy with my family, they were mercilessly killed by a creature that I will never forgive.

Werewolves.

They killed my parents. I don't know what reason they had for doing that to my parents but I don't want to know more. There is only one thing I plan to do. When I encounter a werewolf, I will kill it right away. They have no right to live in this world, especially since they are not human.

I finally arrived. I'm standing in front of this big building. Maybe it was that man's company.

"Zuex Morningstar."

I can only say that his name tells me he is rich. I'm still lucky because he's the one who almost ran over me. Because if it was somebody else, they could escape and leave me alone.

I brushed my hair with my palm. I smiled broadly and then started walking into the building. The guard greeted me and asked me why I am here. I immediately said that I'm going to apply. He immediately stepped aside so I could get into the building.

I'm hoping to get hired. My Aunt Bia and I are out of food, so I need need a job. My Aunt surprised me because she has a heart condition and must never gets fatigued. I rushed inside the elevator and took the fifth floor. After that I rushed out of the elevator and  didn't notice that I there is someone walking towards me.

"Ouch!" I moaned when someone ran into me. I jumped up against the wall. I pressed my hand to my sore hip.

"Are you all right?" someone said to me. I was still hunched over, clutching my hip that had hit the wall.

When I saw who was in front of me, I slowly stood up and my eyes widened.

"Zeux?" I ask, mentioning his name.

I'm not sure what to say. I was taken aback by his attractive face. His beard enhances the beauty of his face. I wasn't expecting him to be so attractive. I gulped and gave him a phony smile. His expression remains solemn. I'm not sure, but I think my body is about to collapse.

"So you've arrived."

I agreed by nodding. "Yes, I am. As you say, you are hiring? I mean, you said I would come here yesterday."

He nodded, but his expression remained solemn. "Yes, follow me into my office. I'll ask you a few questions, and if you don't answer correctly or give the answer I want to hear, you won't be hired."

He walked away before I could say anything. I exhale and walk alongside him.

I couldn't stop staring at the side of the wall as I walked. The design is stunning. I sniff and smell the fragrance in the building. When I walked into his office, I was blown away by the design and cleanliness. But then my eyes caught sight of a painting. It's a werewolf. I clenched my fist and turned away.

He sat in the swivel chair, facing me. He motioned for me to sit down. I smiled at him then looked directly in his eyes.

"How old are you?" he inquired.

"I'm 29 years old, Sir."

"All right, can I have the requirements you brought?"

I handed him the envelope I was holding. He immediately opened it and looked inside.

"I'm sorry the other papers were messed up; it was due to what happened yesterday."

He simply nodded while carefully reading my requirements. I scratched my brow and bit my lower lip.

"Are you familiar with office work?"

I gave a quick nod. "Yes, sir."

"It's not that difficult to work here as long as you know how to file papers and check things. Just be diligent in your work. That's what I need here. Not because you're a graduate or something you're already hired. Undergraduates are even better for me because I see them as more diligent."

Because of what he said, I breathed a sigh of relief. I was afraid he wouldn't accept me because I didn't finish college. He seemed to have a high standard. I can't stop smiling.

"What will you ask me, Sir?"

He shrugged. "No more questions, you've been hired."

Because of what he said, I suddenly stood up. I grabbed and squeezed his hand. I was so overjoyed that I nearly bit my lower lip with a smile.

His eyes widened as he looked at me, but he just let me squeeze his hand.

"I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't mean to. I'm just happy. Thank you very much, Sir! Please don't die right away!"

His brow furrowed. "What exactly did you say?"

I laughed softly, my palm covering my mouth. "Nothing, Sir! Don't mind it. By the way, Sir, am I starting tomorrow?"

"Yes, tomorrow. Just a reminder that I don't like people who are late; you can only be late three times. If you're late once more, I will fire you."

"No problem, Sir! I'll always be on time."

He sighed. "All right, then."

"Can I go home now, Sir? I have a lot of work to do."

"Sure," he replied cautiously.

"Bye, Sir!" I even winked at him before leaving his office.

I jumped for joy when I got out. I slipped when I jumped so hard that my face hit the floor.

"Ouch!" I exclaimed while holding my face.
