3: Scary

Vanessa's P.O.V.

I can say that I am doing well at Zeux's company a week after being hired. I'm just a little stressed out because of all the paperwork. I have no issues with my co-workers because they are kind to me. I'm leaving now because its to go home. I cleared my desk and said my goodbyes to my co-workers.

"How's your day, Vanessa? You look so tired?" Jolie asked, smiling.

She is our haughty neighbor. She made money by marrying an old man and now she's looking down to us.

"I'm fine. I'm just tired from work."

She shook her head. "Is that so? You're unfortunate. You're working so hard. Why don't you just want to marry an old man? I hope you have a lot of money now like me. I'm just waiting for this husband to die and then I'll look for a new husband. Of course, I look for a young husband that I want to marry," she said proudly.

I locked my gaze on her. I'm not sure where she got her shameless attitude. She was no longer sorry for his elderly husband. Her husband loved her, but she was only interested in money. She became more arrogant after her husband gave her a large sum of money.

"I don't want to. I can work. I'm not lame or what, so I can work," I say, disgusted.

She laughed. "All right," she said, "but these days it appears that you're turning ugly. You're not the same as before. I'm prettier than you now." She flipped her hair and walked away. I just sighed and continued on my way to our house.

My Aunt was sleeping when I arrived home. I went straight to my room to get dressed, then to the kitchen to see if there was any food.

When I saw how little rice there was, I sighed. I washed the dishes I used before going to my room after I finished eating. I cried myself to sleep on the bed. My parents came to mind unexpectedly. Maybe if they were still alive today, my life would be different. Perhaps I graduated and we were wealthy.

I suddenly remembered the boy they had previously cared for. They had looked after a boy. I'm curious how he's doing now. That kid is smart, unlike me, who is a moron. Perhaps he is now wealthy. I take out my phone and check to see if there is a message. There was none, so I placed it under my pillow and closed my eyes because I was going to sleep now.

I ran into Sir Zeux on my way out of the office the next day. When I waved at him, I automatically smiled. He cocked his brow at me. I have a scratchy throat.

This dude's snout!

"Good morning, sir," I said with a smile.

"Morning," he said sparingly before continuing his walk.

My gaze simply followed him. I sighed and rolled my eyes. That man was, in my opinion, extremely rude. I didn't even get a smile.

When I left the company, I had the impression that someone was keeping an eye on me. I looked around but couldn't find anything. I was about to cross the street when someone grabbed my arm. When I saw who it was, my eyes widened.

"S-sir?"

As he looked at me, his handsome face was serious. I want to say something, but I can't. I just stared at him, as if I didn't want to take my gaze away from his beautiful face.

"You want to die?" His voice was irritated.

"N-no, Sir," I stammered after swallowing.

He let go of my arm and fixed his gaze on me. I gulped.

"I'm not sure if you meant to do that. You're crossing the street even though a car is passing by. If you commit suicide, don't do it in front of my company."

I was stunned. I looked at back, but he was gone. His speed had vanished; my eyes searched for him, but I never saw him again.

When I returned to the office, I heard voices talking as I walked down the hallway. I looked around for where it was coming from and noticed Zuex talking to a woman. The lady is stunning. It has long hair, white skin, a pointed nose, red lips, and a well-shaped body. She hugged Zuex tightly.

"Oh, Zuex, I'll miss you. I'll be there in California for a while, and then I'll be right back here. I hope you're not seeing a lot of girls while I'm gone," she said softly.

Zeux's brows came together. "I'll never miss you, Zafira; I don't even like you, so don't bother me!"

He pushed the woman so hard that she almost fell to the ground. As he looked at her, the woman was stunned.

"Never show your face again, Zafira. You're a piece of garbage."

Zeux walked past her and quickly away. The woman clenched her fist and took her time walking. I rushed into the elevator because I was afraid that the woman would notice me. I had an epiphany. Is my suspicion about Zeux's behavior correct? But why did he come to my aid so quickly that day?

I became nervous as soon as I sat in my seat. Because Zeux was scary, I thought I should always do the right thing. What if he becomes enraged? He might be like a monster in case he gets mad at me too much. I'm not sure what I'll do if that happens. Aunt Bia will be furious because I can't afford to lose my job.

I began filing papers once more. As I filed, I noticed Zeux's solemn expression in the monitor in front of me. In shock, I abruptly stood up.

"S-sir," I almost stammered, swallowing. He raised his eyebrow at me.

"What's that reaction of yours? Did I just scare you?"

I quickly shook my head. "No, Sir. Your face is scary, that's why."

His brow furrowed. "What did you just say?"

I slapped myself a several times before pretending to laugh. "No, Sir. You're just imagining that. Don't mind it, sir. Maybe I'm crazy, so what I'm saying doesn't matter."

"Really?" he asked, "but I heard you say my face is scary," pointing to his own. "Are you sure my handsome face is frightening?"

I burst out laughing. "Sometimes, Sir, handsome men are killers; perhaps you'll kill me later."

He gave me a hard stare. "So you think I'm a murderer?"

My eyes widened. What am I even talking about? Damn! Why did I even see that! I was suddenly afraid of him.

"Nothing, Sir. You're just too handsome, as if I'm going to die if you touch me," I joked.

He frowned and shook his head several times. Perhaps he thinks I'm insane.
