Chapter 4

The makeup artist had come and done her makeup. After years, she looked at herself in the mirror and smiled and just then a sharp sarcastic voice came from behind, "No matter how much a crow is dressed up, it can never become a dove. It seems like this line was said for you"

Hearing Jennifer's sharp sarcastic words, Amelia looked at her but didn't say anything in response.

When Amelia kept silent, Jennifer clenched her fists in anger and said, "Stop looking at yourself in the mirror and come down now. Everyone is waiting for you,"

Saying this Jennifer looked at her for the last time and left the room.

Amelia then took a deep breath and came out of the room.

The garden outside the house was beautifully decorated.

Amelia came out and saw all the guests had arrived. When she looked at the stage, she saw Nick standing on the stage with his family and talking to her father.

Seeing him after all these years, Amelia wanted to run to him and hug him tightly.

She wanted to tell him how much she missed him, but she controlled herself in front of everyone.

Her stepmother then stood next to her and said, "Don't get so caught up in your dreams because reality can be very harsh and it can go beyond your tolerance."

Hearing this, Amelia looked at her in surprise and asked, "Why are you saying that?"

Her stepmother didn't answer and grabbed her arm and started leading her towards the stage. Her stepmother's nails dug into her skin, but she didn't react because she was moving towards her love.

When she finally got up on the stage and stood in front of Nick, her eyes sparkled with tears. She looked at Nick and smiled, but his expression was hard.

Amelia didn't find love in his eyes, there was an unknown feeling there that she couldn't read.

Nick wasn't looking at her with love today. There was no smile on his lips. Amelia thought that he might be angry with her.

So she decided that she would tell Nick everything after the engagement was done.

Suddenly, Nick looked at her and asked in a stern voice, "Do you have something to tell me?"

Amelia was shocked because Nick had never spoken to her in this tone before. She felt a sharp pain in her heart. She looked at him and shook her head and saw that Nick gave her a cold smile upon receiving her answer.

Nick's father then said, "Let's start the engagement party."

Hearing this, everyone on stage nodded and Nick took out a box from his pocket.

Just as he was about to put the ring on her finger, Jennifer shouted, "Stop."

Everyone present looked at Jennifer in surprise and saw that she was standing a little distance away with a file in her hand. Before anyone could understand anything, Jennifer ran up to the stage and handed the file to Nick and said, "I told you but you didn't believe me. Now see for yourself"

Hearing this, Nick opened the file and his eyes turned red with anger. Looking at Amelia, he asked, "Is this true? Is what is written in this report true?"

Amelia, unable to understand anything, said, "Which report are you talking about? I don't understand anything"

Hearing this, Nick handed the report to her. When Amelia looked at the report, she felt like the ground was slowly moving away from under her feet. The report fell from her hands by itself.

Then Nick's father picked up the report and fisted his hand in anger.

Amelia's body started shaking. She looked at Nick and said in a tearful voice, "Believe me, everything written in this report is a lie. It's not true. You know me. I am not this type of girl"

Before Nick could say anything after hearing her words, Jennifer said, "I knew you would still deny it because you are a characterless fraud. I brought the doctor with me. The doctor did a test before you were discharged from the hospital, and he came here today with the test results"

Hearing Jennifer's words, Amelia's soul dried up and she looked up and saw the doctor standing in front of the stage. It was indeed the doctor who had been treating her for a month.

Amelia was shocked to hear Jennifer's words that she didn't realize when the doctor came on stage and stood next to her. She felt his presence when the doctor spoke up, "I was also shocked to see your report because I saw your marital status as single in the file, so I did a double test to be sure. You are really four weeks pregnant.

"Can you deny that you don't feel nauseous and you don't feel dizzy sometimes? I am sure now you are suffering from morning sickness and you are craving foods that were never on your favorite list.

And the biggest proof of this is that you haven't had milk for the last two weeks while you were in the hospital. You have repeatedly said that milk has a strange smell that you can't stand.

The taste of your mouth during pregnancy. Even if you don't want to believe me, you can test yourself again, but I can tell you from my experience that you are 100% pregnant."

Amelia's face went pale after hearing the doctor's words. Her heart tumbled because the claims made by the doctor were indeed true but she couldn't be pregnant.

That was never possible. She looked at the doctor and said in a desperate voice, "Doctor it can't be true. You are telling lie. It is not my file. I admit that the claims you made are true but I can not be pregnant. That is never possible."

Hearing her words, Nick started laughing before the doctor could say anything.

Amelia looked at her in surprise. Nick then looked at her and said in a sharply sarcastic voice, "So you admit that what the doctor is claiming is true and this report card is true. I never thought that behind your innocent face, a cheap and characterless girl was hiding."

Hearing his words, Amelia's heart was broken. She stared at him in a dumbfounded state, tears only flowing down her face. The guests were all trying to find out what was happening on stage.

Seeing the restlessness of the guests, Jennifer pretended to be worried and said, "Now if the guests find out that there is a bastard child in her stomach, will our family's honor remain? Especially since Uncle is a mayor and all the famous people of the city are present here, will Uncle's honor remain if they find out? What should we do now?"

Nick's parents were worried, then Jennifer pointed at her mother. Nancy immediately took advantage of the opportunity and spoke up, "If the engagement does not happen today, the honor of our two families will be ruined.

The election is coming up, if everyone knows that your son's engagement has broken off, it will be very bad for your reputation and it will have a very bad impact on our business too. So, thinking about the honor of both families, we have to make a tough decision right now. And the decision is to get Jennifer engaged to Nick. Then no one can say anything about it anymore."

Hearing Nancy's words, everyone on stage was more or less shocked and Amelia was stunned like a stone. She started begging everyone to believe her but no one listened.

Amelia held Nick's hand tightly and requested him again and again to believe her but Nick jerked his hand away.

James Amelia's father said from behind in a stern voice, "If you try to create any mess here, I will dig up your mother's body from the grave and throw it in the sea."

Hearing the same threat from the past, Amelia started laughing. When the pain exceeded the limit of tolerance, it turned into laughter. She looked at Nick for the last time and asked, "I love you with all my heart and I swear on my love that I did not cheat on you. Will you still not trust me?"

Nick then looked at her and said in a disbelieving voice, "I don't want to make the mistake of trusting you again."

Amelia then wiped her eyes and got off the stage and slowly started to leave towards an unknown future.

At the corner table, a man in a blue suit was sitting in the front row seat. His black hair was flowing down his forehead.

His eyes were a deep blue and his eyebrows were like bows. He had long lashes and his eyes were sharp and passionate like a hunting tiger. His side profile was sharp as if it were a beautiful sculpture made by a skilled artist.

With his sharp nose and thin lips, he looked like a prince from a fairy tale.

His handsome face was capable of making any girl's heartbeat increase. He was staring at her. Looking at his face, there was no way to tell if he was angry or in a good mood as if he was a master at keeping a poker face.

He was looking at Amelia sharply more like trying to see her soul.

There is a kind of cold determination in that gaze, and at the right moment, it becomes terribly attractive. Thick, black hair, neatly set, makes his personality seem more regal.

Just then his phone rang off. He received the call but his gaze was still on Amelia.

He was thinking something when his assistant spoke up in a timid voice from the other end of the phone, "Sir, there was a fire in the lab and the sample is missing"
