Sophia's POV

The ride home was quieter than usual. As the city lights slipped past the tinted windows, I rested my head against the cool glass, replaying the evening in my mind. Ethan hadn't spoken much on the drive back, and neither had I. We didn't need to. The silence between us no longer felt as uncomfortable as it once had.

When the car finally stopped in front of my apartment building, he stepped out first and walked around to open my door.

"Good night," I said softly.

He gave a single no

Sophia's POVThe car barely rolled to a stop before the flashes started.White light exploded against the tinted windows, one burst after another, so fast and so bright that for a second I couldn't see anything past the glass at all."Ready?" Ethan asked, not really asking."No.""Good answer."He was already opening his door. The moment mine opened too, the noise hit me like a wall — shouting, camera shutters, a dozen voices tangled over each other, all aimed straight at me."Miss, over here!""Who is she, Ethan?""Is she one of the new Aveline models?""Sophia, look this way!"I froze halfway out of the car, one heel on the pavement, blinded by the lights.Ethan's hand found mine instantly."She's my girl," he said, loud enough to cut through the noise, steering me forward before I could stumble. "That's all you're getting tonight.""Is that a confirmation, Mr. Blackwell?""It's a goodnight," he said, and pulled me straight past them.We were through the doors before I remembered to

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Thirty-Three: Gorgeous

Sophia's POVThe charity gala had been sitting on my calendar for a week, circled in Ethan's neat, deliberate handwriting on the little notepad he kept by the kitchen counter — the only handwritten thing in an otherwise entirely digital life.Foundation Gala. Saturday. Seven o'clock. Non-negotiable.He'd mentioned it almost in passing, the way he mentioned most things that mattered to him, tossed out between sips of coffee like it required no further discussion. The Blackwell Foundation's annual gala, he'd said, one of the few events he actually cared about attending rather than simply being seen at. Half the city's press would be there. Half the city's money, too.Which meant, according to him, that I couldn't show up looking like his wife had dressed herself."You have an appointment," he'd told me that morning, sliding a card across the table with an address written on the back in the same careful handwriting. "Two o'clock. A stylist. Don't argue with her.""I wasn't going to.""Yo

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Thirty-Two: Five Weeks

Sophia's POV"Pregnant?"Ethan's voice cut through the corridor, sharp with disbelief, his eyes narrowing slightly as they moved from me to the doctor and back again.I froze. My entire body went rigid, every nerve lit up at once, my mind scrambling for something — anything — to say that might undo the word already hanging in the air between us. I had said it. I had actually said it, out loud, in front of him, and now there was no pulling it back, no folding it quietly into a lie and slipping it into my pocket for later.I opened my mouth, but nothing came out.It was the doctor who spoke first."Pregnant with worry, is what I meant to say," he said smoothly, stepping forward with the easy confidence of a man who had clearly navigated far more delicate situations than this one. "Forgive me, Mr. Blackwell — it's a bad habit of mine, running two sentences together when I'm tired. What I meant was that your wife has been dealing with a rather nasty bout of malaria."I stared at him.Etha

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Thirty-One: Your Wife Is Pregnant

Sophia's POVFor a moment, neither of us said anything.Ethan stood at the end of the corridor, still in his charcoal suit, his tie slightly loosened as though he'd come straight from a meeting he hadn't bothered to finish. His eyes moved from me, to the doctor, to the folder in the doctor's hand, and something unreadable flickered across his face before he settled it back into that calm, controlled expression he always wore in public."What are you doing here?"His voice was quiet. Measured. But there was an edge underneath it I couldn't quite place."Ethan."I hadn't expected to see him. Not here. Not now, of all moments, when my mind was still reeling from two words I hadn't had a single second to process."Are you sick?""No," I stammered. The word came out too fast, too high, and I hated how obvious it must have sounded. I glanced at the doctor beside me, then back at Ethan, my thoughts scrambling for something to say that wasn't the truth and wasn't quite a lie either. There was

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Thirty: Positive

Sophia's POVI walked straight to the reception desk, trying to steady my breathing."Excuse me," I said politely. "Where's the doctor?"The receptionist looked up from her computer and smiled."Dr. Samuel is on his way, Miss Sophia. Please have a seat.""Thank you."I sat in one of the waiting chairs, clasping my hands together. This was supposed to be a simple appointment. I only wanted confirmation. Nothing more. The waiting room was tucked at the end of a quiet corridor, far enough from the main hospital wing that the noise of the day faded into a low hum behind me. A soft instrumental version of some pop song played from hidden speakers, meant to calm the nerves of the women sitting around me. It didn't calm me. I glanced at the clock, then at the door, then back at the clock again, unable to settle on anything for more than a few seconds at a time.I thought about how simple I'd expected this to be when I first scheduled it. A quick test. A quick answer. A box checked and closed

  • My Billionaire Boss's Secret Heir   Chapter Twenty-Nine: Between Two Worlds

Sophia's POVThe first thing I noticed when I woke up was the silence.I stretched lazily beneath the soft duvet, letting out a quiet sigh as the oversized T-shirt I had slept in slipped slightly over my shoulder. Sunlight streamed through the curtains, filling the guest bedroom with a warm golden glow. For a brief moment, I forgot where I was. Then reality settled in. The penthouse. The contract. Ethan Blackwell. I glanced at the clock on the bedside table. Eight thirty."Oh no."I climbed out of bed immediately. Today wasn't a day I could afford to waste. I had two important appointments. First, I needed to visit my mother. After that… I had another appointment at the hospital. My hand instinctively rested on my stomach before I quickly pulled it away. No. I couldn't think about that now.I sat on the edge of the bed for a moment, willing my pulse to slow down. The room around me was beautiful in a way that still didn't feel like mine — the pale linen curtains, the low hum of the ai
