Seraphina Salazar
I gripped my pen tighter as the folder I had just handed to my boss slammed into my face. “This is wrong! How many times do I have to tell you this?” he shouted angrily. He massaged his temples, then glared sharply at me. “Are you sure you know what you’re doing, Ms. Salazar?” he added insultingly. I pressed my lips together and inhaled, trying to stop myself from saying insults. And you? Do you even know what you’re doing? You stupid! Damn it! All you do is sit there! I didn’t know how many times I cursed him in my head. God! It was so tempting to say something insulting! But of course, he is my boss, and I need this job, so I have to restrain myself! Three months ago, I was hired as an assistant project manager. I performed well, and my supervisor was impressed. He decided to entrust me with a project to handle on my own. Unfortunately, I still had no idea why my boss was always so irritated. I lowered my head and apologized. “I’m sorry, Sir. I’ll do it again…” This wasn’t the first time he had gotten mad at me. It had happened many times before. I remembered that I couldn’t stop myself from crying the first time he yelled at me. And he was so happy and delighted seeing me so terrified. I heard him laugh mockingly. I lifted my gaze to see him raising an eyebrow. “Your boss says you’re good at your job, huh.” He looked me over from head to toe and then smirked. “Maybe the reason he says you’re good is because you’re… doing something else…” he said suggestively. He didn’t finish his sentence, but from the grin on his lips, I knew exactly what he meant—that maybe I was seducing my boss into bed, which was why he was so impressed with me. I gritted my teeth in annoyance. I gripped my pen tighter—it was almost going to snap. I know I am attractive! But I would never use my body to impress my boss! I have skills! He just couldn't see it! “I was just really doing my job with all my effort, Sir, that’s why my boss was impressed…” I said softly, keeping my head down. He didn’t say anything for a few seconds, so I lifted my gaze at him. He was holding his phone and reading something on it. I noticed the smile on his face as he read. A few seconds later, he noticed I was staring at him. His expression darkened. The corner of his lips curl before he spoke. “Why are you still here? Get out, you stupid, useless employee!” he growled. I immediately knelt and picked up the scattered papers. He had made sure they fell everywhere because he removed the clip I had put on the folder before throwing it at me. “Faster!” he shouted. The first paper I picked up crumpled under my tight grip. Once I gathered everything, I stood up immediately. “I’m really sorry, Sir…” I apologized again. “I’ll do it again.” I bowed slightly before stepping back and quickly leaving. I forced a fake smile as I left the office. Good thing I did because a colleague saw me as soon as I stepped out. “You have a big smile! Does that mean your work got approved?” she teased. My heart skipped a beat. I didn’t answer and just smiled more. I walked faster than her to avoid speaking. “As expected from a top performer,” she added, praising me, before I could finally get away. I sank weakly into my chair. I quickly turned on my computer and opened the file for my current project. The thing is, no matter how much I review it, I don't know what's wrong with it. This is already my seventh revision. I don't know how to fix it anymore. I’ve put so many ideas into it already. I’ve even collected additional ideas just to get it approve. But why is it still wrong? He never told me where I was wrong. He would only insult my work without saying what exactly was wrong. Time slipped away without me noticing. I wanted to cry from frustration. I wanted a break, but my salary was everything to me right now. Giving up was not an option. When I couldn’t take it anymore, I went to the restroom to release my frustration. I cried silently, making sure no one could hear me. And when I was returning to my table, I stopped in the hallway just as I was about to turn toward our wing. "Ms. Salazar is a great employee. She's still a beginner but has already proven herself,” I heard my supervisor say. Then I heard a mocking laugh. I knew it was from Sir Alaric. “Hmm…I wonder why she was competent under you… but suddenly useless under me,” he said suggestively. *** “Seraphina, we’re going to a bar later. You’re coming, right?” Sara whispered to me. I was staring at my computer when she suddenly called me. I looked at her absentmindedly. A bar? I hadn’t been to one in a long time. I found myself nodding, thinking maybe I could forget my problems if I went with them. “Sure,” I said, pretending to be cheerful. When we arrived, there were already a lot of people in the bar. I quickly went to the counter and ordered a drink. Some of my colleagues shouted teasingly at me because of it. “Hey… take it easy, Seraphina. We just got here,” Sara said laughing. I chuckled. “That’s why we’re here—to party, right?” I said, taking a sip of the drink the bartender handed me. After we found a spot, they ordered their drinks. After a while, I noticed my colleagues were talking about something, but I couldn’t quite understand. Lina even called me, but I didn’t catch what she said. “What? I can’t hear you,” I laughed at Sara because she repeated what Lina had said. She came closer to my seat and pointed something far away from us. I looked where she was pointing. I saw Alaric, a little distance away. He was with two other men. A woman was standing in front of him, talking to him. I glared at him from a distance. “Your boss is so handsome, Seraphina. We get so jealous every time he calls you to his office because you get to be alone with him,” she said, giggling. I immediately grabbed my drink and gulped it down. “Looks like Seraphina wants to get drunk,” Basty teased. I pretended to laugh before turning my gaze back to my boss. He was flirting with the woman he was talking to. I figured he probably wouldn’t belittle me here—after all, we weren’t in the office. As I kept watching, he suddenly turned his gaze toward us. His eyes darkened as he stared at me, and it made me uneasy. The girl with him tried to get his attention, but he ignored her. I lip-read his lips when he mouthed, ‘Seraphina,’ while brushing his lower lip with his finger. I immediately looked away. …“Tell me, why did you meet that man again?” His eyes narrowed as he pinned me down on the bed.He was on top of me, holding both my hands above my head. His face was close to mine, and I could feel his breath as he spoke. He had been teasing me earlier, saying he would not let me go home, until he remembered why I had dinner with Magnus. Now I was pinned to his bed, being interrogated.“Alaric, let me go…” I tried to wiggle free, but who was I kidding? He was far stronger than me.He smirked. “Stop fighting and be a good girl. Why did you meet him? Hmm?” I could hear the mockery in his tone.I sighed. I did not want to admit that it was because of Analise that I went with Magnus, but I knew Alaric would keep me pinned on his bed forever if I did not tell him why.I had no choice but to confess. “I just think that it is unfair. Why can’t I go with Magnus when you have Analise?” I trailed off and licked my lips, trying to hide my embarrassment. “Well… I thought Analise is your girlfrien
I don’t know how many hours I slept. I only woke up when I felt someone touching my forehead. Even though I didn’t want to, I slowly opened my eyes.Alaric smiled. “Wake up. You need to eat dinner,” he said in a low, calm voice.I whined. “Later… I’m still sleepy.”I closed my eyes again, trying to go back to sleep, but I felt his hand on my forehead again, waking me up.“Alaric, seriously!” I said irritably. He chuckled. “As much as I don’t want to wake you, I don’t want you to skip dinner either. At least eat a little.”He didn’t leave me alone, so I had no choice. I sat up on the bed, annoyed. That’s when I realized I was already wearing a white t-shirt. It was big on me, but comfortable. He probably cleaned me up after I fell asleep. He fed me since I was still irritated that he woke me up. Mom wouldn’t even bother waking me when I said I didn’t want dinner, but this man just wouldn’t stop.I chewed my food with irritation. After a few bites, I refused to eat anymore. He just sigh
“Mom, I just have something work-related to take care of…” I trailed off, trying to think of a more believable alibi. “It’s urgent, so I won’t be coming home tonight. I’ll stay overnight.”“Just do that here at home,” she said strictly. I could already tell she didn’t agree.I bit my lower lip. I glanced at Alaric, who was already getting ready for us to leave for his condo. He must have felt me looking at him because he looked back at me with a raised brow. I frowned at him.“It really can’t be done at home… just this once, Mom.”I heard her sigh, probably stressed because she had to decide. Dad wasn’t around, so all the decisions fell on her. I know I’m an adult now and I should be deciding for myself, but sometimes it’s not that simple. In this case, if I didn’t ask for permission, she would worry, and I didn’t want that.“Who are you with? Let me talk to them,” she said, clearly stressed.I immediately felt nervous. This was really hard, what Alaric was making me do.“Mom… I’m an
He just laughed at me when he heard about Analise. I glared at him—how dare he laugh at me?I pushed him away when he kissed me again. But he was hard to move. I sobbed because of what he was doing. Am I really that easy for him?I felt his left hand slide over my thigh. I was wearing an office skirt, and it kept riding up as he settled between my legs. I shivered when his hand moved higher, toward the center. His lips trailed down to my ear, and I managed to breathe again. When I regained a bit of strength, I tried to wiggle out from under him.“Stop fighting, Seraphina…” he whispered against my ear, his voice low and hoarse.“Then stop this! I don’t want this…” I cried, still pushing him away.“Damn it!” he snapped. “I don’t know how you found out about Analise, but she’s my damn cousin, for God’s sake!”I froze at what he said. I stopped pushing him. I blinked, then shut my eyes when I felt him bite my earlobe.“Now tell me, why did you meet that man? Hmm?” he asked, a mocking tone
I was thankful to Magnus for lightening the mood. After he admitted that he missed me, he quickly changed the topic. I appreciated that because I wasn’t ready to talk about the past. The only reason I was still going along with him was because he was kind, and he used to be my best friend before we got into a relationship. I missed that version of us, back when he treated me like a princess. But to be honest, a part of me still wanted to ask what I did to make him stop loving me. I also wanted to know why Tito suddenly turned his back on Papa when they used to be close. Tito couldn’t be reached anymore when Papa needed help. Even Magnus stopped contacting me. We moved on without ever knowing why they suddenly left. But now, everything was fine. We survived without them, so maybe knowing their reason didn’t matter anymore. After he finished eating, he invited me to come with him. He had a party to attend and offered to take me along. I refused because I still needed to go back to the c
There was only a small issue that needed to be fixed at the venue, and it could have been handled over a call, but I still decided to go there myself. When I arrived at the Imperial Hotel, the manager immediately assisted me. It only took us fifteen minutes, and the problem was resolved. I even tried to keep the manager talking so I could stay a little longer, but since he had work to do, he eventually left me.I walked around the venue to check everything. They were decorating since there was an event there the next day. A lot of people were moving around, and I blended in with them.“Excuse me, what event is happening here tomorrow?” I asked someone I passed by who was holding flowers. She was a bit startled. “There’s a wedding tomorrow, Ma’am.”She left right after answering me. I continued walking around the venue just to kill time. When I had seen everything, I decided to leave. Some people were already looking at me, probably wondering what I was doing there.I was about to walk
I felt nervous at what Alaric said. I was starting to breathe heavily when he suddenly let out a bark of laughter. That was when I realized he was just messing with me.I rolled my eyes in annoyance and left him. There were two rooms inside the suite. No wonder he was fine with us sharing one room—
Alaric immediately rushed to me. I couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst into tears. Maybe because of the pressure and the pain in my right hand. Even more when I saw him approach me with anger written all over his face.“You couldn’t even do a small thing without causing trouble,” he said irritabl
The next morning, if Serenity hadn’t woken me up, I wouldn’t have woken up at all. Mom hadn’t planned on waking me, so Serenity did instead. It was strange—on days she doesn’t have school, she usually wakes up at noon. But today, she was up early.“Sis, don’t forget to send me the pictures,” Sereni
I ended the call after snapping back at my boss. But a few minutes later, fear crept in when I realized what I had just done. He’s my boss—but he’s also a CEO! His family is powerful!I covered my face with a pillow and screamed.“Are you crazy, Seraphina? You’re exactly like your grandfather!” I s
