I tried to forget about my boss. When Sara invited me to dance, I immediately joined her. The music was too loud, and I wanted to lose myself in it. I danced like it was my last dance—giving it my all, not caring about the whistles I could hear around me.

“Whooaaa… Go girl! You’re so sexy!” Sara shouted despite the loud music.

For a moment while dancing, I forgot my problems. But I didn’t expect what happened next. I was so lost in my own world when suddenly someone grabbed my waist, and my back hit a solid, hard body. The heat radiating from the person spread across me.

I noticed Sara and my colleagues were stunned by what was happening. They stopped dancing and stared at me and the person behind me in surprise.

“No wonder your work is such a mess…you’re busy doing this,” the man whispered behind me.

My heart started pounding immediately.

I tried to pull his hand away from my waist, but he refused to let go. Instead, he pressed me closer to him.

“What are you doing?” I asked nervously. I didn’t want a commotion. I didn’t want my colleagues to know how my boss was belittling me.

I felt his breath against my ear. “No wonder your work sucks, yet your boss praises you so much. You like to seduce, huh?” he whispered.

I gritted my teeth. I was used to being belittled and accused of terrible things by him—but what I didn’t want was for my colleagues to see it. I didn’t want my image as a competent employee to be tarnished in their eyes.

For my last attempt, I tried to remove his hand from my waist again. But I was startled when he suddenly yanked it away, pushing me so that I nearly stumbled over the man in front of me.

I turned to Alaric angrily once I was steady on my feet. I saw him smirking evilly. He looked me over from head to toe, shaking his head in disapproval. Then he left, leaving me embarrassed.

“Seraphina, what was that?” Sara asked. “Your boss looks so disappointed in you,” she said with a look of disappointment too.

I froze at her words. My boss had always been disappointed in me, but seeing Sara’s slightly disappointed expression made it hard for me to accept.

I felt my voice tremble as I spoke. “I-It’s nothing. He just… said something.”

I glanced at my colleagues and saw their confusion at what had happened. They were shocked at how Alaric had treated me.

“Excuse me…” I said quickly.

I walked to the counter, tears spilling from my eyes. I couldn’t stop it. I was supposed to be here to have fun, to forget about my damn work. But why was this happening?

I had a lot to drink. I didn’t know where my friends were. The last time I saw them, they were still on the dance floor, but since I was a bit tipsy, I couldn’t see them anymore. So I decided to go home while I could still walk and not crawl.

I felt the sadness and embarrassment from what had happened as I walked outside. But once I was out, I stopped abruptly.

Damn! I wanted to avoid him. I’d had enough baggage for today—but it was too late. My boss was already staring at me. He was leaning against his car, arms crossed, his gaze fixed on me.

I immediately looked down. The sadness only became more defined—heavier. I thought the alcohol would make me forget. It didn’t. My eyes watered as I started walking again. It didn’t help that I had to pass by him just to get a taxi.

I heard him groan as I got close.

“Get in…” he ordered when I was in front of him.

I stopped and looked at him wearily. I didn’t know if it was because my eyes were watering, but I saw a gentleness in his gaze.

I couldn’t speak. I knew my voice would break if I tried. So I just shook my head. I blinked several times to stop my tears from falling.

He looked away briefly before opening the passenger seat.

“I’ll get you home,” he said.

He licked his lips when I refused to respond.

“You’re tired, Seraphina. You’ve had enough. I’ll get you home safely…” he said gently yet slightly hoarse voice. The way he speak it's as if he was comforting me.

“I.. I'm tired.” My voice cracked, which didn't surprise me anymore. “I'll do the proposal again.”

A tear fell from my eye. I wiped it away and sobbed.

“I'll do my best next time… and…” I wanted to say something more but he didn't let me finish.

“I don't give a damn about the proposal. I'm taking you home safely, Seraphina,” he said with finality.

“Alaric, you shouldn't be here,” I said nervously. But it was like he didn’t hear me at all. He closed the door to my room and walked toward me.I took a deep breath. I was already struggling to breathe because of how nervous I was. I don’t know. He hadn’t really done anything to me. I was just scared that what happened yesterday might happen again today. That he might hurt me too because I’m a Salazar.I stopped when the back of my legs hit the bed. A second later, Alaric was already standing right in front of me. He was scowling, his eyes bloodshot. Anyone would be scared seeing him like that because it was obvious he was furious.“Why didn't you answer your phone?” he asked coldly. His breath hit my face, making me lower my head immediately to avoid his eyes.“I was busy… sorry.” My voice trembled. I took another deep breath, already running out of air again.“And you're busy now too?” I could hear the anger in his voice. “Doing what?” He let out a dark chuckle. “You’re not even do

I stayed frozen in the restroom for several minutes while Serenity kept asking if I knew those girls or why they hurt me.I just stared at her, unable to answer. What was I supposed to say? That they pulled my hair just because they found out I’m a Salazar? That would only make her think it’s connected to what happened in the past. And I’m not even sure if it really is.I want to be sure first before I tell them… or maybe I won’t tell them at all. It will only make my family more afraid. We’re just starting to be okay. I don’t want to be the reason everything falls apart again.Serenity and I went home after what happened. We didn’t go back to our table anymore. I just texted Sara that we had to leave because of an emergency.“Serenity, I don’t know, okay? I don’t know them, and I don’t know why they hurt me!” I stopped and shut my eyes tightly. “I didn’t do anything to them. They just did it out of nowhere.”Serenity finally stopped asking and leaned back against the taxi seat. We we

I stepped back when one of the unfamiliar women moved forward.“You sure she’s a Salazar?” the woman asked in a condescending tone as she approached me. She looked me up and down, her brows furrowing.“Daphne, I know what I’m saying,” Analise answered calmly. “Alaric himself said that girl is a Salazar.”The one Analise called Daphne let out a laugh. “If Alaric knows she’s a Salazar, don’t you think she already suffered because of him?” she said, raising a brow at me. “What do you think, Analise?”Daphne stopped right in front of me and lightly slapped my face twice. “You have a pretty face for a Salazar.”Another girl laughed—the one beside Analise. Meanwhile, Analise just stared at me sharply.“Probably… but that doesn’t mean we can’t be mean to her. After all… she is a Salazar. This is our chance to finally do something,” the girl beside Analise said.I turned my face away when Daphne slapped me again. The other girl laughed at what she did before walking closer too. I stepped back

We got home at dawn, Jessica and I. We even had dinner before Tita Margaux allowed us to leave. I feel like everything happened so fast. Jessica and Tita got along quickly. I’m not seeing it as something bad. I just hope she’s doing it with pure intentions. Because Tita Margaux is really kind to everyone.Jessica happily waved at me as she got off the pedicab. I waved back before telling the driver to keep going. Magnus was supposed to take us home, but he suddenly left because of an emergency with his dad. He had to go immediately, so we just commuted home. When I got home, I was already tired so I fell asleep right away. That’s why I only saw Alaric’s missed calls the next day. He had three texts.[It’s alright.]His reply to my message saying I couldn’t go when he offered to pick me up.[Answer my call.]This was his next text when I ignored his call because I was already inside Magnus’ house.[Answer your damn phone.]That was his last text.My eyes widened when I read that. We all got out of the car when we arrived at Magnus’ house. It was still the same, but I noticed a small change. We were about to go inside when my phone suddenly vibrated. I stopped walking. Neither Magnus nor Jessica noticed, so I was left behind. When I checked my phone, I saw Alaric was calling. Damn! I completely forgot about my mission. I was supposed to find out if the Ferrers were the enemy of my family! And I’m here at Magnus’ house! He doesn’t want me meeting Magnus!I answered the call when I saw Magnus and Jessica already go inside.“Hello…” I greeted. I could feel my chest beating faster from nervousness.“Where are you? You’re not replying to my texts,” he asked in a low voice.I shifted. “I’m at Aunt’s place. I spent the whole day with my cousin at work, so I couldn’t check my phone.”He sighed, and I noticed the annoyance in it. “But that shouldn’t be the reason why you’re forgetting about your boyfriend, Seraphina.”I rolled my eyes. “I didn’t forget you!”“Really? No

I was really shocked by what I found out. I never thought this was how they saw their lives. Before, everything was fine. Yes, Magnus and his parents were a big help to us, but Aunt was never jealous before. They knew how much the Zarcenos helped us, and they never showed any envy. Only now. Well, I don’t want to see it that way. Maybe they just want to get closer to the Zarcenos too, so they have someone to rely on when problems come.Even though I felt uncomfortable with what I learned, I couldn’t leave Jessica. This was the first time she cried in front of me, and I just couldn’t bring myself to say goodbye. So instead, I accompanied her to work while explaining that my life isn’t really that good either.“You can’t say that. You only struggled when you suddenly broke up with Magnus. And after almost a year, you got a job. Now your dad is working again.”I pressed my lips together. I couldn’t argue with her because, in some way, she was right. But we still struggled.“But us, couz,

I didn’t tell Alaric that I didn’t have a passport. I had no intention of going to Italy! My salary was already barely enough, and I was supposed to spend on that trip? And even if the company covered the expenses, I still didn’t want to go. An alone trip with Alaric? Never! Who knows what might ha

I don’t know if the person on the line heard it. He licked his lips and chuckled darkly as he listened. He slid a hand around my waist and pulled me closer. He leaned me against his chest, and together we faced the view outside. I smiled when I caught our reflection in the glass. He was holding me
