Chapter 44: Mom, the matchmaker

“Already had that first date, Damon?” Mom asked. I groaned internally. “No, not yet. Hopefully next week,” Damon said with ease. “Oh you hear that Tris? Maybe you need to go on a date soon.” Mom said. “Mom! Stop talking,” I exclaimed while eating a big spoonful of food. It really was delicious.

“This is really good,” I said and nodded gratefully, licking a bit of sauce from my finger which had dropped from the spoon. Damon cleared his throat and mom laughed. I looked at mom and she was looking at the two of us like she knew something she wasn't supposed to know.

I shared a look with Damon and he excused himself to go to the bathroom. Once he left, I turned to mom. “Mom, what's going on?” I whispered. “What do you mean?” She whispered back in an innocent tone. “Mom.” I said and I looked at her with an 'confess now' look. She looked at me for a second and shrugged her shoulders.
