I Have A Cool Boyfriend

Naomi's POV

"Do you really have to be an asshole?" I hissed at Nathan after Lucas left the coffee shop with a frown on his face.

"What?" Nathan chuckled, looking at me like he did a big crime. "What did I do?"

"Nevermind." I rolled my eyes and turned my back to him to prepare another customer's order.

To be honest, I don't have anything to say about Nathan, he's a good and goofy guy, but sometimes, he would cross the line without him noticing so I always remind him. There was one time when we were having a night out after our shifts, he kissed Ashley, one of our coworkers. Of course the tension started between them because Ashley's boyfriend got mad when he found out. I just told Joe that Nathan was drunk that time and couldn't remember what he did.

They believed me but still, there's already a gap between Ashley and Nathan. I wonder how they managed to finish their shift working at the same hour after I begged Ashley to be relieved one time.

"Are you mad because I made your admirer jealous?" Nathan asked, still don't want to drop the topic. But he's right, I could tell the reason that Lucas left because he wrapped his arm on my shoulder and I'm not gonna blame Lucas for feeling jealousy about it.

"That's not my admirer, that is my—." I stopped before I could say that Lucas is my boyfriend.

"Your what?" Nathan pressed.

"My friend." I replied and continued what I was doing.

I don't know what made me stop telling him the truth. I mean, Lucas has really been my boyfriend since yesterday but I'm still not sure what kind of relationship we have. Does he really like me? Or is it just because he's aloof and just wants to feel that he has someone like me in his life.

I know those kinds of people like Lucas. They are introverted, aloof, don't like to talk to people in general, and always want to stay in their comfort zone. But the truth behind their cold personality, they really wanted a person to stay with them and the only person who would make them feel that they are not alone in this cruel world. And Lucas has me.

"Since when?" Nathan asked again, snapping me out from my thoughts.

"Since he's our loyal customer." I replied and walked back to the counter after I finished the coffee. "Order for Miss—." I paused to look at the name on the cup. "Hannah!" I called, a woman stood up and she made her way to me and I was actually surprised to see the same woman who walked out on me in that interview.

"How are you, Ms. Kim?" She asked with a creepy smile on her lips.

"Good morning ma'am, thank you for asking but I'm fine." I replied nicely even though I really find it weird that she has to come in here and flashed me those creepy smiles.

"Well good." She said as she took the cup of her macchiato and I saw how her creepy smile was replaced with a frown before she turned her heels and walked straight outside. I saw her get inside a car and drive away.

"What's wrong with her?" I asked confusedly but decided to just shrug it off and continue my day.

As the time goes on, I keep checking my phone to see if I happen to have missed a call from LM company. But luckily, there's still no call which I am glad and disappointed at the same time, because it's almost half day and they are still not calling me back. I want to stay positive just like what Lucas told me, but I can't help it. I'm losing hope that they might call me again after what happened in that interview. I really thought that this would be the last time I would make Lucas' order.

Until my shift ended but still no call came from that company. With slumped shoulders, I removed my apron and walked towards the locker room.

"You look dispirited." Ashley commented when she saw me walking like a zombie towards my locker. " I already warned him about confessing."

"Confessed on what?" I asked as I opened my locker and took my bag along with my portfolio.

"Wait, he didn't confess?" She asked back. I looked back at her with furrowed eyebrows as I am really confused about what she's talking about. "Nevermind." She dismissed and she ran out of the locker room in a rush. As much as I want to ask her about it, I'm too lazy to go back. So I just decided to punch my timecard and exit the shop from the backdoor. As I was about to walk away, the door behind me swung open.

"Wait Naomi." Nathan called. He looked like he tried to catch up on me because he's panting.

"What?" I asked.

"I'm really sorry about earlier, I didn't mean to be rude about Lucas it's just that." He paused and heaved a deep breath and exhaled sharply. "I was jealous at the thought that he already confessed to you and you guys are in—." His words were interrupted when my phone rang. I held my hand in the air to stop him and I answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Hi Ms. Kim, this is from LM fashion incorporation, we would like to invite you for a final interview, please bring all of your complete requirements and your portfolio. We're hoping to see you this afternoon."

"Oh my God! Thank you so much ma'am, I will be there with my papers. Thank you so much!" I exclaimed in so much happiness and waited for them to hang up before I let my tears of joy roll down on my face.

"Hey what happened?" Nathan asked worriedly when he saw me crying.

"Oh my God! I'm in for the final interview!" I exclaimed but unlike Lucas, Nathan didn't even react and was just looking at me confusedly.

"Final interview? Of what?"

"Oh, it's LM fashion incorporation, I applied at them a week ago and they're inviting me for the final interview." I explained but still got no reaction from him. "Oh nevermind." I scoffed and waved my hand dismissively. "I should go and tell Lucas about it." I said.

"Wait, I—I get it, that's actually good! That's a great company!"

"Nah, don't fake it. I know you don't have any idea what an LM company is." I hissed and without waiting for him to speak again, I ran to the direction of the city library.

I made my way to the entrance and my eyebrows furrowed when I saw a woman standing in front of Lucas' table, her back facing me while Lucas looked like pretending that he couldn't see the woman. Well, at least he's loyal to me even if I don't ask him to be.

"Excuse me?" I intervene to get Lucas' attention. I heard the woman scoff but didn't look back so I shifted my gaze to Lucas.

"Hey, what brought you here?" Lucas asked and his eyes told me that she's glad to see me.

"My shifts just ended and—."

"Excuse me too, I'm not yet finished talking to him—." The woman finally turned around to see me and we were both surprised to see each other. "Oh my God, Naomi?!"

"Jamie!" I exclaimed and immediately pulled her into a tight hug. "When did you come back?!" I asked after we both pulled away.

"Girls, this is a library." Lucas scolded when all of the students inside looked at us with annoyance in their faces.

"Sorry." I apologised with a peace sign and shifted back to my cousin. "Gosh, I missed you!" I whispered and pulled her again.

"I missed you too, cous. I'm sorry if I didn't visit you when I arrived last night."

"Oh that's fine. I'm just glad that you're already here." I smiled at her and turned to Lucas. "I believe you guys know each other now?"

"I introduced myself to her, but this coolest guy in the world seems not interested in knowing me." Jamie rolled her eyes.

"Sorry about that, but he's a shy guy." I chuckled. "Lucas, this is Jamie, my cousin."

"Hi." Lucas smiled at him but he looked tense. I understand him, people like him are really uncomfortable knowing people.

"So Lucas is your name, that's a beautiful name, but how did you know my cousin?" Jamie asked as she turned to my boyfriend and she even put her elbow on top of the counter and her chin on top of her palm while staring at Lucas.

"Uh—."

"He's my boyfriend." I cut off Lucas.

"Excuse me what?" Jamie exclaimed, earning the student's attention once again.

"You guys should talk outside." Lucas said and we say our sorry again before I dragged Jamie out of the library.

"Okay, now explain." Jamie demanded when we got out. She crossed her arms and stared at me intently.

"Explain what?" I asked.

"Since when did you become his girlfriend?" She air quoted the last word.

"Since yesterday." I said with a shrug.

"Oh so you mean, you guys are new?"

"Yeah, actually it's confusing as well but I guess Lucas is my lucky star." I said and Jamie raised her left eyebrow questioningly. "Because I got the final interview of the LM fashion incorporation!" I squealed.

Jamie's eyes slowly widened. "Oh my God! Congratulations, cousin!" She squealed too and I could tell that she's really happy for me because she knows that it was my dream company.

"Thank you, but I don't want to spoil this happiness because I still have a final interview to see if I will get it or not."

"Bitch, final interview means you're already hired but they just need to brief you about their company rules. But nonetheless, I'm still happy for you!" She pulled me for a hug. "You got your dream job in your dream company and a bonus of having the coolest boyfriend in the world!"

"Wait, you're exaggerating it a little too much." I chuckled as I pulled away. "Lucas is just a simple guy working in a city library."

"Oh if you only saw how he beat that guy and scared the other guys, you would agree with me." She rolled her eyes playfully.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

"So there were a bunch of guys who entered the library and made a scene and you know what your boyfriend did? He—."

"Naomi." Lucas called and cut off Jamie. We both looked to the entrance of the library and saw my boyfriend. "Uh I'm sorry, did I interrupt something?"

"Nope, but Jamie was telling me that you got into a fight?" I asked him.

"No I didn't, I just told them to leave." He shook his head as he made his way towards us.

"See? You're exaggerating it. Lucas is just a nerd and I don't think he's capable of doing those things you said." I whispered to Jamie while waiting for Lucas to approach us.

"I saw what happened and you can't tell me otherwise." Jamie whispered back.

"It's my break time, do you want to eat lunch with me?" Lucas offered.

"Great, I was planning to invite you as well and it's my treat."

"You don't have to, it's my treat." He insisted but since I got my new job because he talked to his brother, I will pay for his meal as a thank you.

"Nah, it's on me and it's a celebration for getting the job position." I shrugged my shoulders and as I was expecting, I saw how happy Lucas was to hear the greatest news ever. Well at least for me.

"That's good news! We really should celebrate!" He exclaimed and I didn't wait for him to initiate the hug since he's too shy to do that. I threw myself on him and we hugged each other so tight.

"Ugh! Please, there's a single person here! Respect begets respect." Jamie huffed. Lucas and I, both laughed.

We decided to eat at the nearest restaurant around the area and at the end, it's still Lucas who pays the bill since he did it secretly. I don't have the guts to get mad at him about this since he told me that I needed to save money to buy new clothes for my new job.

At first, I was so ready to fight him about my outfit but he explained that there's nothing about them, it's just that, they look so old and he's right about that. So our lunch date with Jamie ended after he paid the bill and because Lucas needs to go back to the city library while I have to prepare for the final interview.

"I still can't believe that he's your boyfriend." Jamie commented while we're both heading to my apartment because she offered me a ride home.

"Yeah me too." I chuckled.

"He's too cool for you."

"Exact— wait what?" I snapped my head to her side when I realized what she said.

"I mean, he's not just a boy, he's already a man and just pretending to be a boy."

"He's 19 and works in the city library as a boring nerdy librarian." I said a bit snarky as I intended because I got a little offended for what she said about Lucas is too cool for me.

"He's more than that." She shrugged her shoulders. "I know that he's more than that with just one look."

"I couldn't comprehend what you're trying to imply but Lucas is a nice young man and if you believe that he's more than that, then I should be proud because a woman like you noticed how good my boyfriend is."

"Please don't get me wrong, Naomi."

"I don't, don't worry." I deadpanned and pushed the door open on my side when she stopped in front of the building of our apartment. I turned around again and bent over to see her inside her car. "But let me tell you this, I know him since he started working at the city library and if he's too cool for me, then that's good because I have a cool boyfriend." I sneered and stormed inside the building without waiting for her to rebut.
