Chapter 14

"Miss Greyson?" A soft voice asked. It belonged to a female, yet Scarlett didn't want to open her eyes. "Miss Greyson? Are you finally waking up, dear? Can you hear me?"

Scarlett groaned when something touched her. Her whole body felt like it was on fire, yet she slightly her eyes. But she shut them once the blinds let the dazzling sun through the cracks.

It added to her migraine.

"Miss Greyson? Do you know where you are?"

Scarlett didn't reply. Her tongue felt too swollen to speak, and her head felt overtaken by dust and clouds.

Loud voices gathered around her, but Scarlett couldn't see who was talking. So she silently listened.

"Dear Lord, she is in bad shape."

"What did you expect? She was most likely assaulted on the street and left to die. Luckily, she was brought into the hospital in time."

"Could someone get me a fresh IV?"

"Oh, and please leave the monitor alone."

"Did she have a cell phone when she was brought in?"

"No, but her husband is sitting in the lobby."
