Chapter 101

The First Queen

The chamber was gone.

There was no floor beneath them.

No walls.

No ceiling.

Only an endless sea of stars.

At the center of it stood Lyra.

She no longer looked like the woman Kael had known.

Not completely.

Her silver hair floated around her like moonlight.

Her eyes contained galaxies.

A crown of golden light hovered above her head.

And behind her—

the enormous shape of the Moon Wolf appeared.

Kael stared.

“Lyra…”

She turned toward him.

“I can hear everything.”

“What?”

“Every heartbeat.”

She looked toward the darkness.

“Every world.”

Her eyes closed.

“Every life.”

Then she opened them again.

“And every death.”

Kael stepped closer.

“Are you still you?”

Lyra smiled.

“I am more myself than I've ever been.”

Kael released a breath.

“Good.”

The Destroyer appeared before them.

Three enormous eyes.

A body made of darkness.

Its presence alone made reality tremble.

“You were never supposed to awaken.”

Lyra looked at it.

“And yet I did.”

“You will destroy yourself.”

“Maybe.”

She raised one hand.

“But I won't let you destroy my family.”

The Destroyer attacked.

A black wave exploded across the chamber.

Lyra didn't move.

The wave reached her.

Then stopped.

She simply looked at it.

The darkness dissolved.

The Destroyer recoiled.

“No.”

Kael stared.

“You didn't even touch it.”

Lyra shook her head.

“I don't need to.”

The First Father watched from behind them.

“She has returned to what she was before fear.”

Kael looked at him.

“What does that mean?”

The First Father answered quietly.

“She is no longer fighting the universe.”

“She is commanding it.”

Lyra lifted her hand.

The stars moved.

Thousands of silver wolves appeared from the darkness.

They were not physical creatures.

They were memories.

Every wolf that had ever followed Lyra.

Every wolf that had ever died for her.

Every wolf that had ever waited for her return.

They surrounded the Destroyer.

It roared.

“YOU CANNOT CONTROL ME!”

Lyra's voice remained calm.

“I don't want to control you.”

The wolves moved closer.

“I want you to remember.”

The Destroyer froze.

“Remember what?”

“Why you were created.”

Silence.

Lyra looked at the three eyes.

“You weren't created to destroy.”

The Destroyer trembled.

“You were created because he was afraid.”

She pointed toward the First Father.

The old man lowered his head.

Lyra continued.

“You were his fear.”

“You were the part of him that wanted to erase everything he couldn't understand.”

The Destroyer screamed.

“I AM MORE THAN THAT!”

“Yes.”

Lyra nodded.

“You became something else.”

“What?”

“Choice.”

The Destroyer became still.

Lyra stepped forward.

“You chose destruction.”

“You chose hatred.”

“You chose to become the end.”

“But that doesn't mean you have to remain it.”

The Destroyer stared at her.

“You would forgive me?”

Lyra's expression softened.

“No.”

The Destroyer attacked again.

This time—

Lyra moved.

She transformed completely.

The Moon Wolf appeared.

Massive.

Silver.

Golden eyes burning like twin suns.

She collided with the Destroyer.

The impact shattered hundreds of stars.

Kael shielded Lucian.

“Stay behind me!”

Lucian shook his head.

“No.”

Kael looked at him.

Lucian stepped forward.

“I want to help Mama.”

“You're not ready.”

Lucian looked at his hands.

“I think I am.”

Black and gold light surrounded him.

Kael felt the Key of Eternity react.

“Lucian…”

The boy looked at his father.

“I know what I am now.”

“What?”

“A choice.”

Kael's eyes filled with emotion.

Lucian smiled.

“And I choose Mama.”

He raised his hand.

A golden beam shot toward Lyra.

It entered her body.

The Moon Wolf stopped.

Her eyes widened.

Then—

she became brighter.

The Destroyer screamed.

“What did you do?”

Lucian answered:

“I gave her my future.”

Kael stared.

The First Father looked shocked.

“That shouldn't be possible.”

Kael looked at him.

“Why?”

“Because the future cannot be given away.”

Lucian smiled.

“Then maybe I'm not the future.”

Kael understood.

“You're choosing what comes after.”

Lucian nodded.

Lyra roared.

A wave of golden energy exploded outward.

The Destroyer was thrown backward.

Its body cracked.

One of its three eyes shattered.

“No!”

Lyra landed before it.

“You can still stop.”

The Destroyer stared at her.

“You think mercy will save this world?”

“No.”

Lyra looked toward Kael.

“Love will.”

Kael stepped forward.

The Key of Eternity flew into his hand.

Its light changed.

The black half disappeared.

The gold half remained.

Kael looked at the Key.

“What happened to the darkness?”

The First Father answered.

“It chose.”

Kael looked at Lyra.

She nodded.

The Key wasn't supposed to contain darkness.

It was supposed to contain choice.

Kael raised it.

The Destroyer stared.

“You think that weapon can kill me?”

“No.”

Kael smiled.

“I don't want to kill you.”

The Destroyer hesitated.

“Then what do you want?”

Kael pointed the Key toward the sky.

“I want to end the reason you exist.”

The First Father suddenly understood.

“Kael…”

“What?”

“If you do that…”

He looked toward Lyra.

“…the First World will disappear.”

Kael froze.

“The First World?”

“Yes.”

“The kingdoms?”

“Gone.”

“The memories?”

“Gone.”

“The old laws?”

“Gone.”

Kael looked at Lyra.

She understood.

“This is the price.”

Kael lowered the Key.

“If we erase the First World…”

“There will be nothing left to hold creation together.”

Kael looked at Lucian.

“And what happens to us?”

The First Father didn't answer.

That was enough.

Lyra stepped closer.

“Kael.”

He looked at her.

“We knew there would be a price.”

“I don't want to lose you.”

“You won't.”

“You don't know that.”

Lyra touched his face.

“No.”

She smiled.

“But I know one thing.”

“What?”

“We have already lost each other thousands of times.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“And every time…”

She took his hand.

“…we found each other again.”

Kael closed his eyes.

Then smiled.

“Then let's find each other one more time.”

He raised the Key.

The First Father looked at them.

“You are willing to erase everything?”

Kael answered:

“Not everything.”

Lyra joined him.

“We're only erasing what was never meant to control us.”

Lucian stood between them.

“And keeping what we choose.”

The three held hands.

The Key of Eternity exploded.

A golden wave swept across the universe.

The First World began disappearing.

Its towers vanished.

Its armies vanished.

Its laws vanished.

Aralyn disappeared beneath a shower of silver light.

Seris looked toward the sky.

She smiled.

Then she whispered:

“Finally.”

And vanished.

The Destroyer screamed.

Its remaining two eyes cracked.

The First Father began fading too.

He looked at Lucian.

“My son.”

Lucian looked at him.

“Goodbye, Grandfather.”

The old man smiled.

“Make a better world.”

Then he disappeared.

The Destroyer remained.

Broken.

Weak.

But alive.

Lyra walked toward it.

“It is your choice now.”

The Destroyer stared at her.

“What choice?”

“Exist.”

“Or end.”

The creature looked toward the empty space where the First World had been.

For the first time—

it looked tired.

“I don't know how to exist.”

Lyra extended her hand.

“Then learn.”

The Destroyer stared at her hand.

Slowly—

one enormous claw reached toward it.

But before it could touch her—

the entire universe shook.

Kael looked upward.

“What now?”

A familiar voice echoed across existence.

“That's enough.”

Kael froze.

Lyra's expression changed.

Lucian looked frightened.

The voice continued.

“You have destroyed the First World.”

“You have broken the cycle.”

“You have defeated the Destroyer.”

A pause.

“But you have forgotten one thing.”

Kael tightened his grip on the Key.

“What?”

The voice answered:

“Who created the First Father?”

Silence.

Lyra looked at Kael.

The Destroyer turned toward the sky.

Lucian whispered:

“Someone created him?”

The stars suddenly went dark.

One by one.

Until there was nothing left.

Then—

a single eye opened.

Not three.

Not four.

One.

A voice whispered:

“I did.”

Kael's face went pale.

The Destroyer lowered its head.

The First Father was gone.

The Moon Wolf stood frozen.

And somewhere beyond the edge of the universe—

something older than the First Father…

finally woke up.
