The path back to the clearing feels more hostile than before. Each step I take seems like a direct challenge to the forest, as if it’s trying to swallow the small spark of hope I carry: the flower. I tuck it carefully inside my jacket, making sure nothing can harm it. Shadow will be waiting for me—and I can’t let him down. I can’t let us down.

The air grows thicker, denser, like the forest itself is alive and trying to push me back. The whispers that once were faint now scream inside my mind, each word tangling with my own fears.

“What are you doing here, Eve?” a voice hisses in my ear—so real I stop in my tracks.

I glance around, but there’s no one. Only twisted trees warped by shadow, and shapes that writhe like serpents in the gloom. My breathing quickens, but I shake my head, trying to banish the dark thoughts.

“It’s not real. Just the forest playing tricks,” I whisper, though my voice trembles.

I take a step forward. Then another. But then a figure steps out from between the trees, blocking my path. Tall. Looming. Cloaked in black that blends seamlessly with the darkness. Its face is hidden, but something in its presence chills my blood.

“You do not belong here.”

The voice is low. Cold as winter.

“I didn’t exactly want to be here, but now that I am…” I try to sound brave, though my sarcasm barely hides the fear gnawing at me. “Would you mind stepping aside? I have somewhere I need to be.”

The figure doesn’t move. Instead, it leans forward slightly, and the hood slips just enough to reveal eyes—red and glowing like embers. The air grows even colder, and for a moment, I swear I’m staring into the face of death itself.

“You think you can defy our laws?” it asks, its voice like thunder. “You believe a wolf’s love will be enough to protect you?”

“I don’t care what you believe.”

This time, my voice holds more strength. “I’m not here for your approval. I’m here because Shadow is worth any risk. Even facing something like you.”

The figure says nothing, but I feel its gaze pierce through me. At last, it steps aside, leaving the path open.

“Go on, then, human. But remember: this is only the beginning.”

When I finally break through the trees, the cold night air hits my face like a balm. Shadow is there, exactly where he promised, his eyes locked on the tree line. The moment he sees me, he runs—relief so vivid on his face it chases away the lingering fear inside me.

“Eve!”

His voice is a breathless whisper as he pulls me into his arms. “God, I thought you weren’t coming back.”

“Did you doubt me?” I tease, though my body shakes against his. “You know I’m not easy to scare.”

“That much I know.”

He pulls back just enough to look into my face, his hands cradling my cheeks. His eyes are full of worry—but also something else: awe.

“You’re incredible.”

I kiss him before he can say another word, pouring everything I’ve endured into that kiss. It’s desperate, filled with emotion and raw need—like we’re anchoring ourselves to each other after standing at the edge of a cliff.

When we part, he murmurs against my lips,

“I love you, Eve. No matter what they say or what they do. This… us… is worth more than any stupid rule.”

“I know,” I whisper. “But now it needs to be worth something to them too.”

We return to the clearing, the flower in my hands. A heavy silence falls over the space, thick enough to suffocate. The clan leader watches us with disbelief and disdain, while others murmur behind their hands. I feel their eyes on me—measuring, judging.

“Here it is.”

I raise the flower, my voice firm. “I passed your trial. Now, can I stay?”

The leader approaches slowly, each step echoing on the ground like a drumbeat. When he stands before me, he takes the flower gently, inspecting it as though searching for some flaw.

“You did it,” he says flatly, almost with disappointment. “But it changes nothing.”

“What?”

Shadow steps forward, his body taut with rage. “She did what you asked. The flower is here. What more do you want?”

“Shadow, this isn’t just about her.”

The leader’s gaze is sharp. “It’s about you. You are one of us. You know what it means to defy our laws. If you choose this human, you choose to walk away from the clan.”

“Then so be it.”

His words fall like thunder, and for a moment, the clearing goes utterly still.

“Shadow…”

My voice is barely a whisper. I know what he’s giving up. I can’t let him do it for me.

“No.”

He stops me, eyes burning with a force that silences everything else. “They don’t understand what we have—but it doesn’t matter. I’m not losing you, Eve. Not again.”

The leader watches, eyes shining with something I can’t quite name. Finally, he nods—slowly.

“Very well. But remember this, my son: the path you’ve chosen will be harder than you imagine. And if you fall… no one will be there to lift you.”

As we leave the clearing behind, I feel the weight of it all press down on my shoulders. We’ve won this battle—but I know the war is far from over. Shadow’s world does not welcome me, and mine will never understand what I feel for him. But as his fingers entwine with mine, I make myself a silent vow:

I will not let anything come between us.

Because the love we share is real.

And that… is all that matters.

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   77. A Breath Before the Storm

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   75. Howls of War

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
