The air thickens with tension as we run. The sound of our footsteps echoes in the emptiness of the night, chasing us like the rhythm of some invisible threat drawing near. Shadow doesn’t stop—and I have no intention of slowing down. There’s no time to think. No room for doubt. All I want is to stay by his side, no matter what dangers lie ahead.

The shadows seem to stretch with every passing second, as if the world itself is closing in on us. The darkness isn’t just the cloak that covers the city—it’s a living thing. A predator breathing down our necks, nearly upon us. But we haven’t yet reached safety, and my legs are starting to tremble. Fatigue claws at me.

“Shadow,” I whisper, though my voice falters, barely more than breath. I feel his hand on my back, urging me forward, willing me not to give in. But I stop for a heartbeat, turning toward him. “Where are we going? There’s nowhere left to run. We’re trapped.”

His expression hardens, but I catch a flicker of desperation in his eyes—just enough to unravel me. He halts briefly, looking at me like he’s searching for something in my face, something he hopes I’ll recognize. And I do. I see it all: the exhaustion, the fear, the dread of what’s still to come.

“They found us,” he says, his voice deep, every syllable heavy with meaning. “We can’t hide anymore. There’s no turning back now.”

My heart hammers in my chest. I already knew this. From the moment I chose to be with him, we both knew this day would come. But why do I feel so exposed? So stripped of the strength I thought I had?

“Then… what do we do now?” I ask, trying to sound calm, though every part of me is unraveling. Adrenaline floods my veins, my body on high alert—but my thoughts are chaos.

Before Shadow can answer, a crack sounds nearby—followed by a low, guttural laugh. My entire body goes rigid. The blood in my veins turns to ice.

“You’re too late,” says a man’s voice. One I recognize instantly. I know that voice, though I dare not look.

But when I do, he’s there: tall, smiling with a cruelty that thickens the darkness around him. His eyes gleam with familiar malice—an expression that’s always frozen the breath in my lungs. He looks almost human… but there’s something deeply monstrous behind his gaze. Someone like him doesn’t just let you walk away.

“Bastard!” Shadow snarls, his voice thick with fury. I see his fingers shift, sharpen into claws. The change is coming fast. There’s something in the intensity of his stare that makes me tremble—but it pulls me in, too. I can’t look away from the storm about to break.

The man’s smile widens, drinking in our fear like wine. The danger in the air is suffocating, and inside my chest burns a tangled mess of panic and desire. It’s madness—I know—but I want him. I want Shadow.

“What do you want from us?” I demand, my voice steadier than I feel. I’m terrified, but I won’t let him see it. I can’t.

The man chuckles, a sound laced with venom. He steps closer, eyes locked on Shadow’s with dark amusement.

“What I want,” he says, voice sharp and mocking, “is for you to understand that your life means nothing now. There’s no way back.”

My skin prickles. Fear swallows me whole. But in Shadow’s eyes burns a rage that assures me—he won’t let him win. Not today.

“You’ll regret coming here,” Shadow growls, his entire body trembling, barely containing the wild power coiled within him. The transformation is nearly complete. And I can’t look away. I watch in awe and terror as his true self rises to the surface—so fierce, so terrible, so… his.

The man doesn’t flinch. If anything, his confidence deepens. That smile... it tilts with something dark and poisonous, as if he knows how this will end.

“We’re not the only ones you should fear,” he says, his words dripping like acid. “There are more. And soon, you’ll see—your loyalty to him is the worst mistake you’ve ever made.”

Before I can react, he moves—blurring into motion in the blink of an eye. My instincts lag behind, but Shadow’s don’t. In an instant, he’s there, colliding with the man in a brutal clash that shakes the air around us. The force of their battle nearly drags me off my feet.

I stumble back, frantically searching for an escape—a way to tip the odds. But all I can do is watch, helpless, as Shadow fights with a fury I’ve never witnessed before. Every movement is lethal. Every strike fueled by more than rage—by something deeper: the need to protect me. The need to keep us from being torn apart.

The man fights with twisted delight, like he’s been waiting for this. We can’t beat him easily—I know that. But what terrifies me most isn’t the fight itself. It’s what happens after. The certainty that even if we win... nothing will ever be the same.

Finally, Shadow knocks the man to the ground. But he doesn’t stay down. He rises slowly, blood dripping from his lips, staining his smile with hatred.

“This isn’t over,” he hisses, before vanishing into the shadows like a ghost.

Shadow stands, breathing hard, his body trembling from exhaustion. But his eyes never leave mine. I know what he’s thinking—because I’m thinking it too. What just happened was only the beginning. Nothing will be easy now.

“Eve,” he says, his voice hoarse, as though he’s fought a demon and barely survived. “They want to tear us apart. But we’re not going to let them.”

His words are a challenge—a poisoned promise. And for the first time, hearing them, I feel closer to him than ever. Because I know now, with terrifying clarity: no matter what happens, there is no going back.

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   77. A Breath Before the Storm

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   76. Hearts Aflame

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   75. Howls of War

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   74. Beneath the Moon of Secrets

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
