Morning arrives slowly, shrouded in a shadow that refuses to lift. Shadow is still in the same position, unmoving, thoughtful—as if something is unraveling in his mind, something with the power to change us forever. I watch him from across the room, his rigid figure, his guarded expression. There’s a chasm between us now, one I can’t seem to cross, even though my fingers ache with the urge to reach out.

Today is the day. I feel it in the air. The pieces on the board are shifting faster, and the truth approaches with heavy steps, though I don’t know if I’m ready to face what’s coming.

“Eve…”

His voice, deep and calm, calls to me.

My body reacts before I even think. My heart starts to race, as it always does when he speaks. I turn around, cross the room, and move toward him, though fear mingles with the overwhelming need to be near him—to touch him.

“Tell me.”

His eyes shine with something I can’t quite decipher, but I don’t dare ask. I already know that uncertainty hurts less than silence.

“I have to do something,” he says, and the finality in his voice chills me. But what does that mean?

The uncertainty I thought I had left behind takes hold of me again. A voice in the back of my mind whispers that this isn’t just a simple act—not just a quick fix. There’s more. And the dread in my chest spreads like wildfire.

“What do you have to do?” I ask, my voice quieter now, tinged with fear. I don’t want him to say something I won’t be able to understand—something I won’t be able to accept. But I know that whatever he says next will change everything.

Silence hangs between us, as dense as the night air that preceded it. Finally, Shadow moves. He walks toward me, and my breath catches in my throat. His hand rests gently on my shoulder, and for a moment, everything disappears—the chaos, the conspiracies, the secrets. It’s just him and me.

“I’m going to do whatever it takes to protect us,” he says. And the way he says it… I know it’s not an empty promise. It’s a terrifying truth.

“And what does that mean?” I ask, unable to hide the panic curling in my stomach.

His expression hardens, and his eyes—usually full of fire—are now dim, clouded, like a storm has reached its violent peak inside him.

“It means that we may have to make sacrifices we never wanted to make. That to protect you, I might have to leave you.”

His words hit like a punch to the gut. My legs tremble, and for a second, I nearly fall—but he catches me. I can’t speak. My throat tightens, and the anguish of what he just said tears through me with unbearable force.

“No… you can’t. You can’t leave me, Shadow.”

My words are a silent scream, no louder than a trembling whisper, but I know he hears me. His eyes reflect everything I’m feeling—fear, desperation, helplessness. But in them, too, is a resolve I can’t deny.

“Eve, this isn’t just about us. This is bigger. There are forces we can’t control. And I won’t lose you. I won’t let this destroy us—destroy you.”

Emotion floods me, and suddenly all the chaos we’ve faced seems small compared to the idea of losing him. The thought of living without him, of fighting these monsters without the strength his love gives me, is unbearable.

“Then don’t leave me,” I whisper, gripping his shirt as if I could anchor him to me, as if I could stop him from slipping away. “You promised you’d do everything to keep us together. Don’t break that promise.”

He looks at me, and I know he’s at war with himself—battling something neither of us can truly control. But somehow, in that war, we understand each other. We’re not invincible. But together, we’ve survived everything.

“I’ll fight, Eve. No matter what happens, I’ll fight. But you have to understand… if staying together puts you at greater risk, then I might not have a choice.”

The pain in his words wounds me more deeply than anything else could. My eyes fill with tears, but I fight them back. I don’t want to cry. I don’t want to look weak. I know this is bigger than us. And the idea that our battle might not have a happy ending haunts me.

“I love you,” I whisper, feeling the weight of those words like a stone in my chest—as if saying them could stop time, bring everything back to the way it was before. But I know there’s no going back now. “I love you more than I can bear.”

Shadow says nothing. He just holds me. And in his arms, I feel like everything we’ve lived—everything we’ve lost and fought for—might have been a beautiful lie without a happy ending. But in his embrace, I also feel something undeniable: a promise, perhaps, that the fight isn’t over. Maybe it never will be.

What scares me isn’t the battle ahead.

What scares me is that even if we fight until the very end…

The price we’ll pay might be more than we ever imagined.

Maxwell’s presence fills the cabin with a tense, electric energy. It's as if he brings with him the promise of more chaos—but also, strangely, a sense of relief. Shadow trusts him, that much is clear, though not completely.“Is there a safe way out of here?” Shadow asks, his voice carrying that commanding tone he uses when he’s in control.Maxwell shakes his head, jaw clenched.“Not with the speed they’re moving. Klaus has trackers in every direction. If we leave now, we’ll be surrounded before dawn.”“Then we fight here,” Shadow replies, calm but resolute. My stomach twists. We fight?” I repeat, my throat suddenly dry. Both men turn to me. Maxwell looks at me like I’m a lost girl in a dark forest, but Shadow steps closer, placing a steady hand on my shoulder.“Lyra, this cabin isn’t ideal, but we can use it to our advantage. It’s familiar ground, and we have a little time to set traps.”“Traps?” My voice rises a little higher than I’d like, but I can’t help it.Maxwell lets out a sho

Shadow holds me in his arms as I try to steady my breathing. His warmth—so comforting, so familiar—is the only anchor I have in the midst of the chaos. The cabin is a wreck: shattered furniture, claw marks on the walls, and the metallic stench of blood thick in the air. But right now, the only thing that matters is that we're still alive.“You shouldn't have done that, Lyra,” he says, his tone stern, though his hands on my back are unbearably gentle.I pull back just enough to look into his eyes, my fingers still clutching the front of his blood-stained shirt.“What was I supposed to do? Just stand there and watch them kill you?”He exhales slowly, eyes closing like he's caught between yelling at me or kissing me.“I can't lose you, Lyra,” he finally confesses, his voice no more than a whisper.“Then don't ever ask me to walk away again,” I reply firmly—and this time, it's me who closes the distance between us.Our lips meet, and the world stops spinning. It’s a desperate kiss, charge

The air inside the cabin feels heavy, thick with tension and emotions that refuse to settle. Shadow moves like a caged wolf, pacing the small space back and forth, checking the windows, making sure everything is locked and secure. I remain seated on the couch, my hands still trembling slightly after his kiss. It’s as if that moment ignited something in both of us—something we can’t ignore, yet are terrified to name.“How dangerous is Klaus, really?” I ask, breaking the silence.Shadow stops, leaning against the wall beside the window. His face is grim, and the moonlight spilling through the glass sharpens the angles of his features.“He’s dangerous like few others,” he replies, not looking directly at me. “He’s calculating. Patient. He won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”“And what is it he wants?” I press, though part of me already knows the answer. At last, his eyes meet mine, and the weight of his gaze steals the air from my lungs.“Me… dead. And you, Lyra, as his weapon.”His

We don’t go straight back to the cabin. Shadow insists on taking a long, winding path through the forest, making sure Klaus isn’t following us—though I’m pretty sure that if that man wanted to find us, he already would’ve. The tension between us is thick enough to choke on. He walks ahead of me, broad back and stiff shoulders, like he’s carrying the weight of the world.I, on the other hand, am battling the thousand questions spinning in my head. Who is Klaus, really? What kind of “mistake from the past” could stir up that level of hatred? And more importantly: what role do I play in all of this? The silence stretches until I can’t take it anymore.“You can’t keep leaving everything up in the air, Shadow.”My voice comes out sharper than I intended, almost like a challenge. He stops so abruptly I nearly crash into his back. He turns to me, his dark eyes gleaming with a mixture of frustration—and something else I can’t quite name.“What do you want me to say, Lyra?” he asks, his voice

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   73. On the Edge of Chaos

The name Klaus is a poison that seeps into the air between us. Shadow stands rigid in front of me, like a wall of iron, and I can feel the intensity of his inner struggle. His protective instinct clashes with the fury crackling in the air, like a storm waiting to be unleashed."Who the hell is Klaus?" I whisper, trying to keep my voice steady as I take a step back, aware that my presence might be more of a burden than a help.Klaus lets out a laugh that echoes through the trees. It's a hollow sound, laced with malice, and it sends a shiver racing down my spine. He takes another step toward us, his figure now bathed in the pale glow of the moon. His eyes shine with something wild, and the smile on his face feels more like a challenge than any sign of joy."Hasn't he told you, darling?" Klaus asks, his tone mocking as he looks at me with bold amusement. "I’m... an old thorn in your precious lycan’s side. Though, personally, I prefer to think of myself as a reminder of everything he trie

  • My Dark Desirable Wolf   72. A Perfect Disaster

The wind blowing through the open windows carries a cool breeze that brushes against my skin.Shadow is leaning against the window frame, staring out at the forest surrounding us, as if searching for something in the distance.Though the stillness of the moment should soothe me, I know there's a storm behind his eyes he's trying hard to hide.“You know,” I say, breaking the silence that has settled between us, “I always thought that if I ever ended up trapped in a situation as ridiculous as this, it would be with someone a bit more… normal.”He turns to me, one brow arched, that crooked smile of his already forming—clear warning that something sarcastic is about to leave his mouth.“Normal?” he repeats, dragging the word out like it’s an insult. “And where’s the fun in that?”I can’t help but laugh. The way he always twists my words back at me makes me want to punch him… or kiss him. It’s a constant inner war, one I honestly enjoy far more than I should.“I don’t know. Maybe it’d be l
