LOGIN“Hot water for your poisonous tongue.” Emily was quick to splash Britanny with hot tea.
She looked at Britanny disdainfully.
“You witch!” Britanny’s face quickly reddened.
Tears filled her eyes as she shouted angrily ready to attack Emily. “Who do you think you are? I came from a noble family and you are just a piece of trash!” She raised her hand to slap Emily but Emily was fast to grab her hand.
“You claimed to be noble and yet you are acting rotten. Maybe you can use your money to buy good traits first.” Emily hated people who thought that they were mighty among all the weak.
“Slap!!!” A slap sound then resonated the area. “This is for me!” She said looking at Brittany who cried painfully. “And this is for Warren!” Another slap was heard.
Brittany was so furious.
She attempted to attack again with his cheeks burning but her companion rushed over followed by the manager and staff of the restaurant.
“Mr., call the police. This lowly woman should not be allowed to dine in here or else we rich people will not eat here anymore. You will certainly lose your restaurant’s high reputation!” Holding her two burning cheeks, Britanny deliberately spoke in a high-pitched tone so people who were eating around could hear her.
She surely knew they would agree and side with her.
Rich people think alike!
The manager looked at Emily menacingly and quickly raised his hand to his two men to throw Emily outside but…
“If you dare to touch her, consider this restaurant close by tonight,” Warren spoke with a dignified tone.
It was the only time the manager had a closer look at Warren.
Because Warren had gone from the outside for too long, it was very difficult to recognize him but with his dignified words, the manager was stunned.
This guy belonged to the Adams!
He was the second grandchild of the powerful Master Frederick Adam in the city.
Warren’s words suddenly became so heavy burned on his shoulder.
“Ah… I am sorry, there must be a little misunderstanding here, Mr. Adam.” The manager quickly pacified his tone.
He didn’t want to lose his job.
“Hey, you! If you don’t…” Brittany didn’t want to give in as she interrupted but was quickly cut by the manager.
“Escort this scandalous lady outside!” The manager then pointed at Brittany then the two bodyguards quickly followed.
“No!” Britanny quickly exclaimed angrily.
“If you don’t then let the police handle you.” The manager became so tough.
Obviously, he just wanted to flaunt that he was on Warren’s side or he could not afford the consequences because of his poor service.
“You! I will kill you!!!” Brittany was wailing looking at Emily fiercely.
“You Warren, if it weren’t for your money, you are nothing!!!” Brittany shouted horribly.
“You can’t allow this crazy lady to dine in her again. Do you hear me?” The manager strictly imposed to his subordinates and everyone agreed.
After the scandal, they left the restaurant.
Warren was silent inside the car.
Emily was observing him.
He seemed to be affected by his ex-girlfriend’s blatant words.
It surely hurt his ego.
Emily wanted to cheer him up but she swallowed her words.
Maybe he just wanted to be alone with his thoughts.
A deafening silence enveloped inside the car until…
“Warren?” Emily’s worried voice immediately broke the silence.
“Warren!”
“Warren!”
The person beside her suddenly fell in his seat.
He was chasing and breathing heavily grasping his chest.
“Warren!” Emily panicked.
Quickly, a screeching sound of a car resonated in the street.
Mr. Floss quickly drove to the hospital.
Warren held Emily’s hand.
Emily let him if that was the way she could help him.
When they arrived, a group of medical staff assisted Warren and brought him to the emergency room.
Emily could not contain her emotions.
What went wrong?
They were just so happy eating together a while ago before his ex-girlfriend came.
Did Warren put all her words to heart?
She was too depressed now for Warren.
What would happen to him?
What about Charles?
She couldn’t believe that her first day of work would be too difficult.
Warren is in the hospital!
No one knows if he could survive or not!
Emily clenched her fists nervously.
'Warren, please survive…'
She was sincerely talking to Warren through her mind.
Just when a man dashed in followed with his bodyguards in black.
Charles was the tallest striding toward her and Mr. Floss who was standing in the corner in silence.
His eyes were furious like lasers which could kill someone just by looking.
Nervous as hell, Emily quickly stood up.
“What’s in your mind, Ms. Greyson? You are there and yet you didn’t forbid him to eat sashimis? What a useless servant you are!” Charles quickly bombarded her with harsh words.
He personally briefed her about Warren’s allergies yesterday inside his car.
He even asked her if she clearly understood him and she answered yes along with repeated nods.
What happened now?
Did he get a very dumb woman?
If it weren’t for his brother, no outsider was worthy of his attention.
The word ‘useless’ was mentioned again and again this night.
Is there really a person born useless?
Emily would disagree but she could not make a counterattack.
Charles was too angry that he could tear her to pieces if she would trigger him more.
“Warren is allergic to seafood! Did I not brief you on that?” Charles’s rage seemed to have no ending.
Emily was shocked to hear him.
Last night, she was over the moon.
Who would not when her favorite person in the world just popped up out of nowhere?
Then he offered her a job.
Then they were both living in the same mansion.
Emily came to realize just now that she wasn’t focused on Charles’s words inside the car at all because of his sudden appearance in her life.
She was destructed by his real handsome face and everything about him.
She was star-struck!
“I’m… I’m sorry,” Emily felt so guilty about it.
It was all her fault!
“Sorry? Is that all you can say? When my brother is fighting for his life you can only say sorry, huh!?” He looked at her like she was the dumbest person among all people in the world.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she lowered her head helplessly.
She felt again defeated.
Charles was so ruthless.
“And you? Mr. Floss, you are one of the oldest and most trusted drivers in our family. How could this slip in your hand?” Charles frowned deeply as he scolded the old man.
“The young master didn’t want to inform you about this.” Mr. Floss explained.
His tone was also wearing a deep guilt.
It was obvious that he was also worried about Warren.
“Then, let me ask you this? Who paid for your salary? Is it him or me?” Charles’s voice was exploding.
Everyone was stiff scared to move.
Even breathing was difficult.
A little fault would leave them to nowhere!
“I apologize, young master Charles." Mr. Floss wasn’t just an old man but he was also sensitive.
Like Emily, he also understood Warren.
Being locked up at the mansion for a very long time was as good as dying slowly.
“Who are you to decide for my brother?” Charles cut him off. His raging eyes shot him with a deadly look.
Charles wasn’t like this.
He was kind to his old staff but at this time, he could not control his anger.
All because of his brother.
“You are just a driver.” He said firmly.
“I’m… I’m sorry.” With head low, Mr. Floss spoke politely even if he was already bombarded with harsh words.
“No… I trusted you but you disappointed me that much! You… you are fired!” Charles said and turned away.
Hearing this, Emily was taken aback.
“Mr… Mr. Floss….” She muttered seeing him bowed slightly at her and finally went away.
“Young master Charles, Mr. Floss… it was not right! Blame it all on me!” Aggrieved, Emily shouted.
She didn’t expect that the situation would worsen.
Because of her, someone was in the emergency room and the other one had just lost his job.
She could only blame herself.
Upon hearing her, Charles stopped at her side and looked at her like daggers stabbed directly into her heart.
It was crystal clear that he was disappointed at her big time.
“You don’t teach me what to do! Especially when you are the main reason why my brother is in danger!” Charles shouted at her angrily as he strode toward her closer and closer.
She took steps backward until her back reached the wall.
“But Mr. Floss is innocent! You can fire me if you want but not him!” If she had to go back to the bar again, that’s fine as long as no innocent man would suffer because of her mistake.
“Then your wish is granted! You are fired!” Charles had no time for a dumb person like her.
If it weren’t for his brother, this woman would not appeal anymore in their city.
She just caused danger to his only brother.
But also, he could not make himself an excuse for what happened to his brother.
He hired this woman and trusted his only brother to her.
This woman was a mistake!
She is dumb and not suited to take care of his brother!
Tears filled her eyes while running away outside when a heavy rain poured down.
Quickly, she was drenched before she got inside a small kiosk in the park just beside a main street.
She was afraid of lightning so she crouched a little and covered her ears with her two palms.
Her heart was in pain.
She never thought her first day of work was also her last.
She just stayed at Charles’s mansion very shortly.
It seemed fate just wanted her to taste a little sunshine in her life but she couldn’t take it all.
Admittedly, she expected something…
Besides, she was just an ordinary girl wanting to be with her love forever.
She dreamt of being married to Charles, her darling superstar.
But her dream didn’t last.
Now, she needed to wake up.
The dream was all over.
“Wow! This must be my lucky night!” Emily’s thought was quickly cut off when someone dashed toward her and grasped her arm.
The smell of alcohol quickly spread the air.
The man was drunk.
Emily struggled against the man’s strong grip but it was to no avail.
He was dragging her to the dark corner.
Emily knew what would possibly happen if he succeeded.
Using her knee, she strongly hit the man’s balls.
“Ah!!!” The man cried in pain and crouched on the ground.
When she was about to run, “You bitch…” The man captured her toe.
She immediately fell to the ground with intense pain in her toe.
The man stood struggling still bearing the pain.
He smiled triumphantly as he strode toward Emily who was sitting on the ground crouching on her leg.
She was afraid and nervous but she could not move.
The man seemed to want to finish his unfinished business.
He was about to hold Emily again but he was startled by a sudden honking of a car.
It honked repeatedly getting the attention of some by passers.
The man hesitated for a while then he went away.
“E! I’m here.” Brian suddenly found her. Luckily, she called him to pick her up before the incident happened.
Otherwise, she would not want to think about what’s gonna happen to her with that drunk man.
Her face was twitching in pain.
Brian realized that she sprained her ankle.
He carefully lifted her in a bridal style and put her inside his car.
They drove away.
In the dark, the man inside the honking car observed everything.
Emily turned away from the glass. She did not pause. She did not look back.If she did, she knew she would not have the strength to leave. Her footsteps were quiet against the polished hospital floor as she walked past Nancy.Nancy was standing a few steps away, arms folded, her lips curved in a slow, satisfied smile. The expression of someone who had already won.Emily did not acknowledge it.She simply kept walking. But inside, her chest felt like it was being torn apart. It was not only Charles. It was everything. Her future. Her graduation. Her friend Lizzy. Her cat that always waited for her by the door.Justin.The one person who had was the man version of her.The decision had come too suddenly. Too abrupt. She had been thinking of ways to escape the prison cell, ways to clear her name, ways to survive. But she had never imagined Nancy would appear.Never imagined her offer. Her signature for her freedom.Emily tightened her grip on the folder in her hands. The divorce papers f
The words settled heavily between them.It sounded simple.Divorce.Freedom or a cell. But what about her graduation? Her future?Nancy folded her arms, her patience thinning. “This offer will not come again. I do not have time to wait. Leave it or sign it, the choice is yours! ”“You have no one to help you out, Emily,” Nancy continued smoothly, her voice coated in sugar and poison. “And by the way, I heard the old man has no intention of letting you attend your graduation. This entire incident?” She gestured vaguely to the cell. “A setup. Just to keep you here. Quiet. Out of sight. Until Warren returns and marries you off as planned.”She leaned closer to the bars, lowering her voice to a near whisper.“Poor Emily.”There was no sympathy in her eyes.“You see, it has always been about his grandsons. Always. You were never anything more than a servant wearing the Adam name until it suited them to take it back.” Her lips curved into a satisfied smirk. “A slave to the Adam family until
The officer shifted a file in his hands. “We understand your statement. However, a pregnant woman fell, was injured, and her account, supported by witnesses and video footage taken by other students, has been filed as a formal complaint. Under the law, Ms. Greyson, this is considered a serious offense.”Emily’s chest tightened. “Serious? You… you’re saying I could go to jail? For this?”The officer nodded, his tone clinical, devoid of pity. “Yes. At this stage, you are being held on suspicion. You will remain in custody until bail is set and until the investigation is concluded. You are legally obligated to appear for all proceedings. Failure to do so will be considered contempt of court.”Her knees felt weak. “But… I didn’t do anything! I am not a criminal!” Her voice cracked, tears forming at the edge of her eyes. “This was a setup. Someone… someone planned this!”The officer glanced at his partner. “Ms. Greyson, you have every right to claim innocence. But the law treats complaints
But Claudette noticed. She stepped forward and, without warning, slapped Emily across the face. The sound cracked through the courtyard.Gasps followed.“How dare you speak like that!” Claudette shrieked. “You’re jealous of your own sister! You forced us out of your mother’s house when we had nowhere to go! I begged you. I knelt in front of you! But you were cruel. You shut the door on us and let us sleep in the streets!”She turned dramatically toward the growing crowd.“And do you know what happened next?” she demanded, her voice breaking perfectly on cue. “Because of Emily’s cruelty, Nichole was abused! That baby she’s carrying is the result of that abuse. All because Emily let us sleep outside like dogs!”The courtyard erupted into whispers.“That’s horrible…”“How can someone be that heartless?”“She looks so innocent though.”“I guess looks can be deceiving.”Each comment sliced deeper than the last.Emily struggled to breathe. Not because she believed them. But because she coul
For a brief moment, even the air seemed to freeze.Butler Frank did not move. Only his eyes shifted slightly toward the Old Master.Old Master Frederick looked at Emily as though she had committed an unforgivable offense.“Set you free?” he repeated slowly. There was no anger in his voice. That was far more unsettling.A dangerous calm settled over him, the kind that precedes something irreversible.“You speak as if you were dragged here in chains,” he said, striking his gold cane sharply against the marble floor. The crack echoed through the hall. “No one forced you. You signed the agreement of your own free will. You accepted every condition with full awareness. Do not stand there and pretend you are some helpless victim.”He struck the cane again, harder this time. The sound rang louder, heavy with restrained fury.Emily’s chest tightened. The Old Master gave a subtle nod.Butler Frank moved immediately. He stepped forward and handed Emily a black envelope before returning to his o
Emily stayed on the bench, her body still but her senses sharp.Every time headlights turned into the hospital driveway, her heart jumped. She straightened, scanning each car carefully. White sedans. Ambulances. A delivery van. None of them familiar. She memorized Nancy’s luxury car. Carlos’s dark SUV. She knew their shapes now. The shine of their paint. The way their tinted windows reflected the lights. Each time a black car slowed near the entrance, her breath caught. But when she leaned forward, squinting through the dim glow inside, no silhouette matched Nancy’s elegant posture or Carlos’s rigid frame.Nancy was not leaving. The thought stung more than the cold.Of course, she would stay. She was inside. By his bedside. Probably holding his hand. Probably speaking softly to him. Telling everyone she was the devoted fiancée.Emily’s fingers tightened around the edge of the bench.Jealousy crept in quietly, then spread like ink in water. As the woman he saved, she wanted to be there
Morning crept in gently, trailing threads of light across the folds of white linen. The hospital room was hushed, but not cold. It felt… different. Warmer. Softer. Like someone had left the window open just enough for calm to step inside.Charles blinked awake slowly, disoriented at first.Emily wa
Stanley didn’t just agree to the coffee. He offered something better.“Hey,” he said with a grin over the phone, “there’s a weekend camp for graduating students. Two days, one night. University-sponsored. Bonfire, games, hiking, all that cheesy stuff. You should come. It’ll be fun.”Emily paused.A
Emily’s heart dropped the moment she saw him.Stanley Connor. The friendly guy who had asked her to the masquerade ball. The one who had always seemed harmless, charming, even. He was dressed in his usual crisp university uniform, his hands tucked casually into his pockets, a soft smile on his face
Emily’s fingers trembled as she stared at the photo on her phone. The image was grainy, taken from a distance, but unmistakable. Her face tilted up. Charles’s head lowered. Their lips pressed together in a kiss that wasn’t supposed to happen.Even in the dark, the image was clear.Too clear. Her he
