Lily Thompson

I stared at my reflection in the mirror.

The maroon suit hugged my curves like it had been stitched just for me. The lady at the boutique knew what she was doing when she recommended this suit to me.

The deep neckline of the jacket revealed just enough cleavage to command attention without screaming for it. I styled my hair to flow in soft waves over my shoulders, my makeup was subtle but flawless, and for the first time in a long time… I felt like I belonged in the room I was about to walk into.

I stepped out of the bedroom, heels clicking across the penthouse tiles.

Ryan’s head turned and he froze.

His eyes roamed from the hem of my slacks, up the curve of my hips, pausing at my neckline before finally meeting my gaze.

“Wow.” He cleared his throat and adjusted his tie like it was suddenly too tight. “You look… like you own the building.”

I smirked. “That’s the goal.”

Even Isabella clapped. “Mommy, you look like a movie star!”

I ruffled her curls, heart fluttering with nerves and pride.

The drive to Isabella’s school was quiet, but electric. Ryan kept sneaking glances at me, missing a turn once and nearly running a red light. I raised a brow.

“Eyes on the road, Mr. Edwards.”

He grinned. “Not my fault the passenger seat looks like a Vogue cover.”

When we dropped Isabella off, she blew us both kisses and yelled, “Don’t forget to be awesome!”

Back in the car, the tension returned.

I crossed my legs and stared ahead.

I could feel his eyes dart toward me every few seconds, like he was holding something in, waiting.

Then he finally spoke.

“About last night…”

My stomach flipped.

I didn’t respond immediately. I tried to play it cool. I shrugged, eyes forward. “What about it?”

His eyes left the road and he glanced at me momentarily. “We almost almost kissed.” He blurted out

“Did we?” I said lightly, though my voice was tight.

He frowned, grabbing the steering wheel tighter. “Lily. Don’t do that. Don’t pretend it didn’t happen. You were going to kiss me”

“No, YOU were going to kiss me,” I countered, finally meeting his eyes. “Almost is just almost. Nothing happened.”

“But it could’ve but you didn’t pull away either.”

I shifted in my seat, trying to act unfazed. “Because I was caught off guard.”

His jaw clenched and exhaled. “So you felt nothing?”

I hesitated just a bit too long.

“I was tired,” I said lightly. “We’d had a long day. Emotions were running high. It didn’t mean anything.”

Ryan gave a humorless chuckle, eyes back on the road. “Right. Of course not.”

I looked away, ashamed of the emotion in my chest.

He continued, softer now. “But for what it’s worth… no matter how hard you push me away, I’m not going anywhere again. That was the biggest mistake of my life, and I’ll never make it twice.”

My heart beat like a war drum. We stayed silent till we got to the office.

When we got to the office, the atmosphere felt off. People glanced my way, some whispering behind me

Theo met us by the elevator. “Heads up,” he muttered. “Vanessa’s been running her mouth all morning. Apparently, she told the whole floor you were a dropout about to pitch a marketing plan… and that everyone should grab popcorn.”

My blood ran cold.

Sure enough, when the conference room doors opened, it was packed. Not just board members. Employees. Interns. Curious faces ready to watch me fail.

I froze.

"Nope,” I muttered. My chest tightened like a vice. I couldn’t feel my fingers. I turned on my heel and rushed into my office, heart racing so fast it echoed in my ears. “I can’t do this”

I rushed into my office, pacing like a caged animal.

Ryan followed me in, closing the door behind him. “Hey. Breathe.”

“I can’t,” I hissed. “They’re all waiting to laugh at me! I’m not ready—”

“Lily.”

I stopped.

He stepped closer, cupping my face forcing me to look at him. “Breathe. You’re more than enough. You built this pitch. You poured your soul into it. You’ve been through worse than a few snide looks.

Lily, you didn’t claw your way through life just to freeze now. I watched you spend the whole night bent over that notebook, pouring your soul into this plan when no one else saw you.

You turned scraps into strategy. You don’t need approval from people waiting for you to fail, the only person who needs to believe in you is you. And I do. Fully. They’re not ready for you, Lily. But go in there, and show them you’ve always been ready.”

I blinked fast. My throat was tight. And before I could stop myself, I wrapped my arms around him.

He exhaled hard, like he’d been holding his breath for a year, and his arms crushed me back to his chest.

He inhaled the scent of my hair.

Then…

I pulled away.

He didn’t.

I raised a brow. “Ryan.”

He smirked, still hugging me. “Five more seconds. Let me pretend this is how mornings always start.”

I rolled my eyes and a chuckle escaped my lips but didn’t argue.

“Give them a show they’ll never forget.”

I breathed in. Then out.

I nodded. Okay. Let’s burn the place down.

When I finally walked into the conference room, the murmur quieted.

Vanessa stood with her clipboard, her face the picture of smugness. “Let’s begin,” she said. “Ms. Thompson, the floor is yours. Let’s just hope you’re better at marketing than you were at college.””

You….Bitch!!!

I walked to the front.

For a second, my hands trembled.

Then I remembered Ryan’s words. My daughter’s smile. The nights I spent fighting to stay afloat.

And I began.

“Good morning. My name is Lily Thompson. I may not have a degree, but what I do have is real-world experience. And a vision.”

I started shaky, but with each nod from the board, each glimmer of interest in their eyes, my voice grew stronger. By the fifth slide, I wasn’t just pitching — I was commanding.

What followed was twenty minutes of energy, creativity, and heart. I spoke about human-centered campaigns, Denzol’s need to connect with real people, and a rollout plan that left even the most skeptical board members nodding.

By the time I was done, the room was silent.

Then someone started clapping.

And then another.

And then the whole room.

Even Vanessa… stunned, lips pressed tight.

Theo leaned over and whispered, “That was one hell of a pitch.”

Ryan didn’t say anything. He just looked at me from across the room, eyes soft, proud, and a little bit in love.

And I finally let myself smile.

For one folish second, I wanted to run to him.

Wrap my arms around his neck, bury my face in his chest, and whisper I did it like it still meant something.

But I didn’t move.

I just stood there, frozen, wondering—

Why the hell do I still feel this way?

This chapter was about transformation — not just with a new suit and confidence, but with Lily owning her space in a world that once made her feel too small. Her journey isn’t about proving them wrong anymore — it’s about proving herself right. And Ryan… well, let’s just say his eyes are doing a lot of “I never stopped loving you” work, and Lily is dangerously close to remembering what his lips feel like. 👀 (You screamed too, don’t lie.)What’s next? Let’s just say: love is getting louder, enemies are getting pettier, and Lily? She’s just getting started. Stick around. The real game’s about to begin.

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    Dangerous Distractions

Lily ThompsonI was going to lose my mind.My body hadn’t calmed down since yesterday. Not even close. That man,Ryan, was messing with my entire nervous system. My skin felt too tight. My throat dry. My core? Flooded like a damn faucet had burst open down there and wouldn’t stop. And now here I was, at nine-freaking-thirty in the morning, legs curled up in bed with my phone in one hand, scrolling through what could only be described as the horniest section of the internet: the sex toy section. The names alone were sending me into cardiac arrest. What in God’s name was a “ThrustMaster 3000”? And why did it have attachments that looked like they belonged in a sci-fi movie? Then there was the “Bunny Bender” complete with rotating beads, pulsing ears, and something labeled “triple intensity.” Triple intensity? I was struggling with just the single intensity of Ryan’s voice in my head. There were Clitoral suction, curved shaft, rabbit ears, quiet mode…That one got a hard stare.I wasn’t ju

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    Too Hot to Think, Too Smart to Trust

Lily Thompson I woke up panting. My body was on fire.Every inch of me was tight, pulsing, aching for something I hadn’t even thought about in years.I pressed my thighs together and groaned softly. “Fuck”I blinked at the ceiling, chest heaving. What the hell was this?My sheets were a mess, tangled around my legs. My robe had slipped down one shoulder and my nipples were tight, pebble-hard against the cool air. Worse, so much worse, I was soaked.Down there.Soaked and throbbing and needy like I hadn’t been in six years.Six. Whole. Years.I hadn’t had sex since Isabella was born. And that had been fine. I was fine. My energy had gone into keeping Isabella safe and fed, working myself raw at three jobs just to scrape through. I hadn’t had the time or the luxury of being horny. Not once in all that time had I woken up like this—panting, aroused, craving something hard and deepUntil now.Until him.Until Ryan stepped back into my life and started ruining every shred of self-control I

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    Buy Time

Ryan EdwardsThe office emptied with the slow hush of after-hours, but my mind kept hammering one truth: a single half-believable excuse wasn’t enough. If Lily stayed suspicious, every glance, every question would slice a little deeper until the whole façade bled out in front of her.I needed something ordinary, something that looked like the real life of a mid-level employee who definitely didn’t own penthouses or private jets. That was why I’d rented the small apartment in the first place.Time to use it.I found Lily at her desk around six, packing her laptop. She didn’t glance up.“Hey.” I kept my tone light. “Small panic. Theo needs tomorrow’s payroll review sheets. I, uh, left the signed originals at my place.”She slid her gaze to me. “You can scan them in the morning.”“Finance needs them queued tonight. Audit window.” I held up my phone, screen lit with an exaggerated string of frantic messages from Theo (I’d drafted them to myself). “If I cab across town I’ll miss Isabella’s

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    Does She Know??

Ryan EdwardsShe knows.I don’t have proof, but I’ve been in too many boardrooms and survived too many interrogations to ignore gut instinct. And mine was screaming at me now.Lily knows I’m hiding something. She didn’t say anything outright. She didn’t throw accusations or slam a door. That’s not her style. But the shift in her energy since yesterday afternoon was too sharp to ignore. She was fine in the morning—flustered, yes, adorably so after our accidental sleep-cuddle—but then she went quiet. Not just annoyed, quiet. Suspicious quiet. The kind of quiet that hums with unsaid questions and unspoken conclusions. She didn’t meet my eyes. Barely mumbled goodbye as she hopped out of the car. And at the office, she avoided me with precision. At first, I chalked it up to our… proximity. Maybe she was embarrassed. Maybe she was finally drawing a line. But when I got back to my desk that afternoon, I noticed the drawer was ajar. The leather case inside—the one holding the Lang & Peregrine

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    Who Is Ryan Edwards?

Lily Thompson The question nagged at me: How did he afford that? And more urgently… who exactly was Ryan Edwards now? That night, I couldn’t stop thinking about the watch. Even after tucking Isabella into bed and reading her favorite book for the third time, my mind kept circling the same drain. He said he worked under Theo. That he was just another corporate man trying to get by.But nothing about that watch said “just another man.”After cleaning up the kitchen, I found myself lingering in the hallway between our rooms, unsure if I should knock. Ask. Demand. Snoop.Instead, I went to my room and flopped into bed, dragging the covers up like a shield. But sleep wouldn’t come.So I opened my journal. And I remembered.College. Junior year.It was raining. Not the romantic kind of rain either. It was one of those sleety, sideways torrents that made your socks wet and your books soggy.I had waited for Ryan for over an hour. We had plans. Big ones. I was supposed to meet his parents. In

  • My Daughter Found Me A Billionaire Husband    What He’s Hiding?

Lily Thompson I was trying to remember all the reasons I should hate him. All the pain he caused me. All the nights I stayed up wondering what I did wrong. But the memories felt slippery lately, blurred by his ridiculous smile and the way he made my–our daughter laugh like nothing else mattered. The toast popped up three minutes ago, but I still hadn’t moved.I sat at the dining table in my sleep-rumpled tee, staring at the butter knife poised above the plate, willing my pulse to slow down. It refused. Unfortunately, so did my imagination.Heat crawled through me every time my mind replayed the accidental “good-morning groping” that had happened in Ryan’s bed.I squeezed my eyes shut and felt the treacherous throb at the back of my throat.Stop thinking about him.Stop thinking about the way his stomach tightened under your fingers.Stop thinking about how hard—My thighs clenched involuntarily, and I bit out a curse beneath my breath. This was ridiculous. I was twenty three, not thir
