Chapter Forty One: Jealousy

I don't know how long I stayed in Roland's arms, sobbing, but it was only when a loud cough sounded from Elias that I jerked back to my senses. Feeling Roland's arms tense around me, I knew that he had the same thought that I did. Elias had already had an issue with Roland and my strange relationship. Seeing us like this now, what would he possibly think?

Scurrying to get up, I nearly fell on my face, but luckily Roland managed to catch me before that, putting us in an even more awkward position.

"Don't let me disturb the both of you." Elias spoke in a voice dripping with ice as I looked at him with wide eyes. "Please do continue."

"Brother, what are you talking about?" Roland asked.

"You and Valerie look pretty comfortable together." Elias pointed out, looking from me to Roland. "Close enough to be hugging one another."

"No, it wasn't like that!" I said quickly.

I didn't necessarily have to explain anything to him. After all, he had all but left me for dead while protecting his sister
