My Enemy Is My Lover

The sound of my phone buzzing made me groan as I tossed from one end of the bed to the other still not opening my eyes while using my hand to trace where it was.

God, this weekend be nice, I took the break from work because I thought I needed it, now who’s it.

"Where is this phone?" I reluctantly opened up my eyes screening my bed and I finally found it on the bed stand where the sound was coming from.

I answered the call without checking the Caller as always with a sleepy voice. "Rosalinda on the line. How may I help you?" I asked, my eyes still half closed and I was sure if I wasn't holding myself then I would have dozed off to sleep back.

"My Rosa.” That was the last voice I ever thought of hearing, really now. Your Rosa? That sure cleared off all the sleep on my face and called me to my right senses.

I cleared my throat and fondled my nails. "Yes, How may I help you?" I asked, I wasn't even ready for her chit chat because she would always act like she cared but in the end, it would be useless.

Since young, all I ever require from her was for her to love me and care for me. I was the sick type even though my blood type was rare, that caused issue for me since I was born, I was always sick but she would always act nonchalant and same way with my father like I was some piece of trash to them. They had given all the love to my eldest sister Sarah and there was nothing left for me all because they had a hard time before getting her pregnancy and mine was easy peasy.

"I know we aren't on good terms but atleast would you please spare me a little of your time?" She asked in a pleading tone, that was new but I nodded.

"Go on. As long as it isn't what I'm thinking."

She cleared her throat and started. "We are holding the family meeting again this time and I hope you will be here."

I went silent for a while. Just as I had thought, I knew she’ll never call me just to check up on me. I know I’m angry but I still yearn for her, she’s my mother either way.

A drop of tears slipped down my eyes and I tried to hold myself together.

"Are you still there?" I heard her ask and I made a sound.

"I knew there was no reason you could call out of the blue. You never called to check up on me before, you never called to ask if I was coping really fine since I left California which I didn’t even go that far for you not to.“

”Yet you’ll never once call me to know about my whereabouts but whenever you call, it is always about the family meeting that would later be disoriented." I flared up, tears oozing down my eyes but I didn't make a sound. I wouldn't be looked down upon.

Yes, I left home when I was 19 and now I'm 24 but I still never felt that different.

"I." She stopped and sigh, “I am sorry Rosa. You know I cherish you and want the best for you, it just had to be that way but I promise to make it up to you for all that happened over the years. I hope we have a better discussion than the other time we had this meeting so we could talk things out between us."

It can never be a better discussion. I wanted to say but I kept mute.

"When is the family meeting?" I asked her, I was thinking of going to California either way even if she didn’t call me for a meeting and this is because I’m meeting an important client.

"We could have chosen Monday…"

"I'm always busy on Monday and never free so just come in straight." I interrupted her and I could hear her sigh again.

"The meeting is in three days." She revealed and I gasped in shock, at least they do inform me earlier than this, now what changed.

"Three days? And you're just informing me now? Do you realize I am not like Sarah and I have work at hand." I retorted.

I was now up on my bed and applying my skincare routine, they don’t really know what I’m doing over here and have no idea I was a huge catch.

I design clothes for influencers, billionaires, celebrities etc. I made sure my identity was hidden because I want a peaceful life.

”Young lady.“ That was my dad’s voice, I heard ruffles but it stopped after a while. ” You must attend the meeting or you won’t like what I’ll do to you.“ He ended.

”And what’s that you’ll do if I don’t attend the meeting. “ I frowned in disbelief.

” I can easily ruin you over there with just one call, no one will be willing to hire you to work with them or anything. “ I shook my head disappointed.

"Ruin me? Are you even a father?" I asked him and I could hear my mother gasp from the end of the call.

”Watch your tongue young lady, I am still your father.“ He shouted, the way he was over confident surprised me.

"I can’t believe you still see yourself as a father because you are way far worse than that. I’ll be at the meeting like you all wanted, who knows? It might appear more appealing than the last.” I chuckled before ending the call.

I stood up from my bed and went into my bathroom showering before going to my dressing room. There were tons of designers wears there but I chose the most simple one.

I am not ready to announce to anyone I am the top designer whom everyone want to badge a contract with.

After dressing up, I stood in front of my mirror and dialed a number. She picked up after the third ring, that’s Clarissa, my best friend and my secretary.

“Hey best.” I don’t have to be so rude to her, she knows everything about me and she had to be the one acting like the CEO until I’m back even though she hated the idea because she felt frustrated most times.

“Is it time already.” I sigh, I really wished to make this weekend a simple and peaceful one but I guess that’s a no.

“Yes but why the sudden rush, you wanted to go back on Monday and today is Saturday.” I explained everything to her and she was baffled at what my parents did again.

After talking for a while I dropped the call before heading to the airport. She already solved everything and my flight will take place in 4 hours time which meant I can laze around but I just wanted to be there as soon as possible.

I dropped from my car and hand it over to my driver to take it back home as h entered the airport. Okay there, I’ll be good for some while.

I just have to attend their absurb meeting and leave after meeting with the client. I still have up to 3 hours left so I decided to eat at the restaurant opposite it.

I bought my food and a smoothie to top it and was on my way out when someone bumped into me making everything I bought fell down, ouch.
