CEDRIC POV

The days flew by, and Emmeline's words still lingered in my mind. I'd searched everywhere for Juliet, but she was nowhere to be found.

I rubbed my forehead, frustration etched on my face as I gazed out the window. Ava had set up another meeting with the Council, and I'd decided to go alone. Bringing Marci would only expose the pack's weakness.

A knock on the door broke my train of thought. "Come in," I said, and Emmeline entered with a warm smile. She was recovering well, but still limped slightly. "Greetings, my lord," she said, bowing slightly.

I frowned, chuckling fondly. "Why so formal, mate?" I asked, pulling her close. She fit perfectly in my arms, and I felt a sense of calm wash over me. I'd been tense all day, but her presence soothed me.

Emmeline shrugged as she kissed my jawline, her new found obsession, “nothing my lord.”

I laughed at her sarcastic reply, but my eyes lingered on hers, searching for any sign of what was really bothering her. She seemed evasive,

EMMELINE'S POV Since Cedric's return from the council meeting, a dark cloud had seemed to follow him everywhere. His mood was palpably bad, and I could tell the meeting hadn't gone as he had hoped. Every time I tried to pry into what had happened, he would brush me off, telling me he would handle it. His evasiveness was starting to make me question our bond as mates. Was I just imagining the connection we shared? His attitude left me feeling uncertain and a bit frustrated. Just then, Elara's voice cut through my thoughts, and I realized I had zoned out again. "Did you hear anything I just said?" she asked, her brow furrowed in concern. I shook my head, feeling a bit embarrassed at my lack of focus. Elara's expression turned incredulous. "I've repeated myself three times!" she exclaimed. I offered her an apologetic smile. "I'm sorry, Elara. I just have a lot on my mind." Elara's gaze lingered on mine, and she asked softly, "Still thinking about July?" Her question was gentl

EMMELINE'S POV I stared out the window with a soft smile. Ever since Cedric’s confession, I’d been in such a good mood. It felt like the goddess had finally taken pity on me… or maybe, just maybe, I’d finally redeemed myself.Grinning, I dipped my brush into the paint again and brought it to the canvas. I’d been working on a portrait—one of Cedric and me by the lake. I couldn’t shake the look on his face when he told me he loved me. It had etched itself into my memory so deeply, I had to capture it.I was so lost in thought I didn’t even hear the footsteps until there was a knock on the table beside me. I jumped slightly and rushed to move the painting.I carried it to the inner room and quickly draped a sheet over it. I didn’t want anyone seeing it—not yet. It felt too personal, too precious. When I turned around, a smile stretched across my face at the sight of Cedric standing in the doorway, holding a tray of food.I raised a teasing brow. “A lord bringing food for this lowly con

EMMELINE'S POV Tears streamed down my face as I stumbled into the room. My legs gave out, and I collapsed to my knees. The pain hit me all at once; it was sharp, suffocating. Like someone had reached into my chest and ripped out my heart with their bare hands.“Why?” I gasped, my voice hoarse and cracked. “Why did you make me believe you loved me?”Was this my punishment for my father's sins? Maybe I was never meant to be happy. Maybe the goddess had never forgiven me.The door slammed open behind me, and I flinched. I turned slowly, dread sinking into my stomach.Cedric.He stood in the doorway, breathing hard, eyes locked on mine. My breath caught in my throat.I let out a bitter laugh. “Don’t,” I hissed as he bent down to help me. “Don’t touch me.”I shoved his hands away, anger surging up through the heartbreak. “What, Cedric? Did you come here to finish the job? Or maybe just laugh in my face?”His jaw tightened, fists clenching at his sides, but he said nothing. My eyes dropped

CEDRIC POV I stood in my room, staring out the window as rain battered the rooftops of Elgin. It poured relentlessly, like the sky itself mourned the choices I’d made. The wine burned down my throat, but it did little to quiet the storm within me. The silence in the room was loud, oppressive.Ava’s help came with a price—marriage. To protect my pack, I agreed. It had to be done.I slipped the ring from my finger and tossed it into the cupboard without a second thought. There was no love in my heart for Ava. Not even a flicker. I knew what I did had shattered Emmeline, and though it gutted me, my pack would always come first.Still… I couldn’t shake the feeling that the Council had their own reasons for approving the union. Their timing, their push—it all reeked of manipulation. But I’d deal with them later.Right now, there was a war knocking at our gates, and I had to lead. When this is over… I’ll find Emmeline. I’ll fix what’s been broken. Even if it kills me.The door creaked open

EMMELINE'S POV The journey to Dogar was far more stressful than I’d anticipated. The rain was relentless, drumming steadily against the carriage roof like an unending echo of my thoughts.I leaned against the carriage wall as the coachman pressed on through the downpour. Lord Devlin remained silent throughout the trip—lost in his own world, it seemed. His brooding expression mirrored the storm outside. My fingers tapped endlessly against the wooden paneling, a futile attempt to clear my thoughts of Cedric. But it wasn’t working. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t erase the image of his eyes when he told me he loved me.How could that look have been a lie?Maybe my father had been right all along. Maybe I was too naive to survive in Elgin. But then again… his actions had left me with no choice.“Are you alright, Emmeline?”Lord Devlin’s voice pulled me from my thoughts. I turned to him with a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes.“I’ll be alright,” I replied, trying to convince m

CEDRIC POV My blood boiled as the last warrior returned with the same pathetic report.“I’m sorry, my Lord... we still can’t locate Lady Emmeline.”I was on him in a heartbeat, my hand closing around his throat like a vice. His eyes bulged as I lifted him off the ground, my voice low and venomous.“Keep searching for her,” I snarled. “Don’t return without her or I’ll skin you alive.”His legs kicked as he struggled for breath. I released him, and he collapsed to the floor, gasping.“Get out now!”He scrambled to his feet and ran like death itself was at his heels.I sighed, dragging a hand through my hair as I paced the room, boots striking the marble floor in an impatient rhythm. A full week of relentless searching. And still—nothing. No trace. No scent trail. No signs of struggle. Just... gone. After Ava's pathetic attempt at deception, I forced her to take me to the dungeon where she claimed Emmeline had been locked away. But the room was empty- completely abandoned, not even a sp

EMMELINE'S POV For a whole week, I hadn’t stepped out of my room. Belle had been kind enough to bring my meals, never asking too many questions, just offering small smiles and a few gentle words before disappearing again.Lord Devlin had come by more times than I could count—but I’d managed to avoid him every time. I still couldn’t wrap my head around it… he brought me here not just for safety, but to be his bride? It felt like betrayal all over again.A knock pulled me from my thoughts. “Matilda, it’s Belle,” her voice called softly through the door.I stood and opened it and there he was.Lord Devlin stood beside her, his eyes meeting mine, unreadable. I bit my lower lip, not sure what to say or how to act. I couldn’t slam the door in his face—not after all he’d done for me.So I forced a smile and stepped aside, letting them in. “Greetings, Lord Devlin.”He gave me a gentle nod, returning the greeting with that same calm smile that used to make me feel safe. CEDRIC POV I watched the rain droplets as they fell into the fountain. The door creaked open, and Ava walked in—she had surprisingly been avoiding me.Without a word, she headed to the inner room to take off her wet clothes. I didn’t bother acknowledging her presence. My mind lingered on the memory of seeing her that night by the lake, talking to an unidentified man. By instinct, I’d started observing her more closely. I noticed she left the manor more often than anyone else.“Where were you?” I asked, turning to face her.Ava frowned, her glare sharp with fury. “It’s none of your business, Cedric!”I rolled my eyes at her outburst. If anyone had the right to raise their voice, it was me. But I needed to tread carefully—I still had no idea what the Council’s plan was.“With the witches ready for war, it’s dangerous to walk around so carelessly, don’t you think?”She scoffed. “As if you care about me, Cedric. Besides, the witches are no longer a threat. We’ve already subdued them.”Su

*******CEDRIC POV******I sat in my office, deep in thought. Emmeline didn’t know that I knew about Devlin’s baby. I wasn’t sure why I hadn’t told her, maybe the words just felt too heavy to say.Since she tried to escape, the security around her room had been increased. Her leg was also chained to the bed.“My Lord,” Grace bowed as she entered, a frustrated look on her face.“What is it?” I asked.“Mistress Emmeline has refused to eat anything since she arrived,” she replied.I sighed, rubbing my temples. It had been two days of her starving herself. What was she trying to achieve with this?“Have you sent Elara in?” I asked. Since Elara was her friend, I thought she’d be the best person to convince her to eat.Grace shook her head. “It was no use… Emmeline smashed the food against the wall.”Was she trying to kill the baby?I waved her off. “I’ll handle this.”She bowed and left. I adjusted my clothes as I stood and made my way to Emmeline’s room. After taking a deep breath, I pushe

I should’ve known. Of course Ava was behind it. Who else could’ve orchestrated something so twisted?I ran a hand through my hair, restless. Marci had told me to be patient, to trust him. I nodded, leaning against the wall and panting heavily.I felt so tired, even though I had just woken up from sleep — rest never seemed to be enough lately.“I’m fine, Belle. You’ve asked that question three times now,” I teased weakly. She walked over and took the shovel from my hands. I had insisted on helping her plant flowers since I had nothing else to do.“You should go inside and rest, Matilda. You don’t look so good,” Belle said, her tone serious.“I’ve been resting for days, Belle. I can help you,” I insisted, reaching for the shovel again. But Belle shook her head firmly. “I mean it… you look burnt out.”“But I can…”“No. Don’t even argue or I’ll call Alpha Devlin,” she warned, tossing the shovel to the ground. She motioned for me to go.Belle being serious was a rare sight, but the command in her voice reminded me that she was still a Beta.I glared at her and stomped off toward the pack h

******EMMELINE'S POV*******The pack was silent as each member said their final goodbyes to Skylar. The physician claimed she died from blood loss.Belle gently pressed her arm against mine, offering quiet comfort as I stared at the coffin. I couldn’t find the words. We weren’t friends, but I would never have wished her dead. The image of her, lifeless in a pool of her own blood, had haunted me for days. It was almost impossible to forget.“May the goddess accept your soul,” I whispered as I sprinkled a handful of sand over her coffin, then stepped away.I sat on the balcony, watching the others say their final words. It felt pathetic, thinking about how she died.Luna Maya had said Skylar fell from upstairs, possibly slipped because the floor was wet. But I didn’t buy it.Something happened… someone…“Here,” Devlin said, handing me a bottle of water.“Thank you,” I murmured, chugging it down. I hadn’t even realized how thirsty I was.He took the seat beside me. “How are you holding

I was in my bed. In my room.Had it all just been a dream? The throbbing pain coursing through my body told me otherwise. The door creaked open, and Grace stepped inside carrying a glass of water.“I figured you’d be awake by now,” she muttered, setting the glass down on the table beside me.Before I could even sit up, Marci pushed the door wider, Colima slipping in right behind him.“Are you okay, Cedric?” Colima asked gently, making her way to my bed and sitting down at the edge.“I feel... okay,” I croaked out, my throat dry and raw. The simple act of moving sent a fresh wave of aches through me.Seeing my struggle, Marci stepped forward and carefully helped me sit up against the headboard. “Here, my Lord,” Grace said, handing me the g

It was about the usual time Quentin brought lunch. But my smile faltered the moment I opened the door and found Luna Maya standing there, Belle grinning mischievously at her side.I flushed in embarrassment as I stepped back to let them in."Greetings, Luna," I said, bowing respectfully.Luna Maya waved off the formality with a warm smile. His furious gaze found me instantly, like it was somehow my fault. My father pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaling heavily. “There’s no need for everyone to twist their panties over this,” he muttered. “Ava will keep him in check.”I straightened and bowed my head low. “Yes, Father,” I said quietly.I turned to the rest of the room and offered another stiff bow. “I apologize for Cedr
