Amelia's POV

He removed my bra, and swallowed hard as it came off. His erection pressed against my stomach.

He put his hands under my butt, lifting me up. My legs wrapped around his torso, and I continued digging my nails into his skin.

"Fuck me." He groaned.

He turned off the shower, and carried me into the room. In a swift motion, he laid me on the bed and started kissing between my thighs.

He took off my pants, and inserted his fingers into my vagina. I was on cloud nine.

I've never felt this alive since I can remember. Sex with Damian wasn't even this good.

After sometimes he came up, crashing his lips on mine, and dominating the kiss.

One of his hands was on my breast, kneading it softly, as his thumb grazed over my nipple. He sucked on my other breast, gently biting my nipple.

"Gosh! This is so good," I moaned.

I hadn't taken a good look at the man I was in bed with. I opened my eyes a bit, and looked at him. I couldn't see his face, but he had black hair.

"My name is Asher, and I'll make you scream it in different positions." His hand left my breast, into my vagina.

"A… Asher…" I rubbed his head, holding him closer to me.

He turned me so that I was facing the bed, arched my back, and thrust into me. He went in and out for a while, our bodies slamming together in perfect rhythm.

I moaned loudly. I was enjoying every second of this.

His hand slid down to my breast, holding it possessively as he continued to thrust.

When he pulled out, I turned to him.

He laid on the bed, as I straddled him. He had a pair of hazel eyes, and a very handsome face. He looked like he was sculptured with precision in every detail — his plump lips, his jaw, his nose— everything was screaming perfectly.

"You look so beautiful," his hand touched my face gently.

"You're not so bad yourself." I chuckled.

"We should've started with his position. I could stay here all day," he kept his hand on my bare butt, and the other was on my breast.

"I don't mind. We can do this all night." I traced my finger on his abs. He was perfectly fit. Maybe he lived at the gym or something.

I rested my head on his chest, the alcohol was taking a toll on me.

"Are you okay?" he asked with concern laced in his voice.

"Yeah. I just had a lot to drink. I think I need to rest, even if I feel like we should do this all night." My voice was hoarse.

"There will always be a next time. Just rest for now." He pulled the blanket, to cover both of us. He wrapped his arms around me and patted my back gently.

I fell asleep within seconds.

A buzzing sound woke me up.

I groaned as I reached to get my phone on the side table. An arm was draped over my waist, holding me like a stuffed toy.

I removed Asher's arm and slid away from his sleeping figure. He looked very calm as he slept, his chest rising and falling slowly under the white sheets. He looks softer — his jaw clenched, lips slightly parted. Peaceful. Like the world can wait until he decides to wake up.

I looked at the notification on my phone, it was Darcy, my assistant.

She sent a reminder about the important meeting I had by 10am today. It was 8am already.

I had just two hours to be there.

I quickly dressed up, and carried my belongings. I dropped a stack of cash on the table, before I left the room, closing the door behind me.

I hurriedly checked out, and went straight to my penthouse to get dressed for work.

I alighted my vehicle, and took a good look at my building, my company, the same one I inherited from my grandmother a few years back, but it was different now.

I had the interior designs renewed and upgraded, I repaired broken things, painted the building again, and voilà it looked better.

I didn't just upgrade the building structure, but I worked my butt off to get this company to where it is right now. It's currently one of the biggest holding companies.

This is my greatest work.

My assistant walked closely behind me, as I stepped into the building.

"Mrs. Samantha dropped off a document this morning, she went for her antenatal, and she might be back on time for the meeting by 10. I also dropped a number of documents on your desk for review. The shares bought in G logistics company are plummeting, I would like to know if you want to sell the shares before it goes downhill."

I walked into my office, "I'll review the documents and everything. Do a background check on that logistics company. I think there was something they didn't tell me before I bought it. I'll take them to court if they want." I rolled my eyes.

Darcy excused herself and left the room. I looked at my mahogany desk, heaps of documents were mounted on it. The atmosphere in my office was calm, the air diffuser blew at the end of the room. There was a set of couches in the middle of the room, facing each other, with a glass table between them.

I took a deep breath, and went straight to work.

About thirty minutes later, I heard a knock on my door.

"Come in," I responded, without looking up.

Darcy walked in, "Ma, Mr Damian. Hades is in the hallway, and he's demanding…"

My office door was forced open, and Damian walked in, with a scowl on his face.

"To what do I owe this pleasure?" I asked. I placed my hand on my jaw, with a smile on my face.

Amelia's POVPain wakes me up first. Then the smell. Antiseptic. Flowers. Coffee. Then a hand in mine. Warm. Real. My eyes open slowly and the ceiling is white. Not wood paneling. Not the dark of that room. Hospital white. “Asher?”He’s there before I finish saying his name. “I’m here,” he says. His voice breaks. “I’m right here.”He leans down and kisses my forehead, my cheek, my hand. Like he can’t decide where to touch me first. “You’re okay,” he whispers. “You’re okay, Amelia. God, you’re okay.”I try to sit up and the pain in my leg reminds me. Gunshot. The dock. Blood. I suck in a breath. “The bullet—”“Gone,” Asher says quickly. “Killian took it out. Cleaned it. Asher’s POVEverything is noise. Gunfire. Yelling. Boots on wood. But all I see is her.Amelia. Damien has her in his arms at the top of the stairs. Her head is hanging. Blood on her shirt. That bandage on her leg. I don’t think. I move.I’m up the stairs in three steps. I don’t give him a chance to talk. “Give her to me,” I say. My voice doesn’t sound like mine. Damien looks at me. Tired. Resigned. Like he’s been waiting for this. He doesn’t fight me. He just lets her go. The second she’s in my arms I feel how light she is. Too light. And I see it. Bruises. On Damien’s forearms. On his knuckles. Fresh. Like he’s been in a fight. Before I can process it, more shouting from downstairs. “Police! Hands up!”Arjun’s voice. A shot. I flinch but don’t look away from Amelia. “Got him!” someone yells. “Killian’s down!”I hear Arjun after. “Shoulder. Non-lethal. He’s cuffed.”They’re moving fast. Arresting everyone. Killian’s men. Asher’s POVThe hospital smells like antiseptic and fear.I’ve been here before. Too many times in the last three days. Darcy is sitting up in bed when I walk in. She looks better. Color’s back in her face. The bruises are fading. But her eyes are still that same hollow, scared thing they’ve been since Killian’s men grabbed her outside my office.“Asher,” she says the second she sees me. “Any news?”I sit in the chair next to her bed. Jordan stays by the door. “We found something,” I say. “We’re close. Today, at most. We’re going to get her back today.”Darcy’s breath catches. “You promise?”“I promise,” I say. And I mean it. Even if I have to burn the whole island down to do it. “Don’t worry, okay? We’ve got people on it. We’ve got a plan.”She nods and reaches for my hand. Her fingers are cold. “Thank you. For not giving up on her.”“Never,” I say.We talk for ten more minutes. About nothing. About her mom. About the soup the nurses keep bringing her. I lie and tell her to rest.

Asher's POVThe car in the garage isn’t Ivy’s. It isn’t Damien’s either. It’s a black SUV. Tinted windows. Out of state plates. Parked crooked like someone pulled in fast and didn’t care. My stomach drops. “Did you see that?” Jordan asks, already out of the car and walking up the drive.“Yeah,” I say. My voice is flat. “Ivy said Damien just got home. Alone. With blood on his socks.”Jordan doesn’t answer. We’re both thinking the same thing. We hit the front door and I start knocking. Hard. “Ivy!” I yell. “Ivy, open up!”Nothing. I knock again. “Ivy! It’s Asher!”The door opens before the third knock. Ivy. She’s standing there in jeans and a sweater, hair down, makeup perfect. She’s smiling. That bright, hostess smile she uses for dinner parties. She looks fine. Relief hits me so hard my knees almost buckle. Then it’s gone, because nothing about this is fine.“Ivy,” I say. “Are you okay?”“Hey, Asher,” she says. Her voice is normal. Too normal. “What are you doing here?”“Are

Half the people here are half-asleep and the other half are already running on adrenaline.“Detective Rao in?” I ask the desk sergeant. My voice comes out steadier than I feel.He jerks his thumb toward the back. “Office 3. He’s been here since five.”Of course he has. My chest is tight. The folder from Esme is burning a hole in my jacket. Aarav Mehta. Evergreen. Incident #4421-B. I don’t have it on me. I left it in the car. If I walk in here waving an over fifteen-year-old adoption records at a cop, I’ll get thrown out before I get answers. So I don’t. I knock once on the door labeled _Detective A.
