Ivy.

The dens came pouring out of the trees in a wave, their snarls filling the darkness as they converged on the spur line.

I counted at least twelve before the first silver edge reached us. Tyler met the lead wolf with the same full-body drive he used to clear the crease on a power play, his shoulder and hip transferring every ounce of force. The dens wolf hit the gravel and did not get up, but Tyler was already turning toward the next attacker.

Ivy.“How much ground are they making up?” I asked, my fingers digging into the edge of the dash as the twin engines roared beneath the deck.Tyler’s eyes remained fixed on the radar display, where the single red marker flickered three miles behind our stern and closed the distance with terrifying speed. “They are running a double-turbine engine. They will be on top of us in less than ten minutes if we stay in open water.”“The coastal charts showed a jagged cluster of sea stacks about five miles south,” I remembered, grabbing the laminated map from the side shelf and spreading it over the console. “The channel between the rocks is narrow and shallow. A boat their size will tear its hull out if they try to follow us through.”“If we miss the entry line, we tear our own hull out,” Tyler warned, his hands holding the steering wheel steady as a heavy swell lifted our bow and slammed it back down against the water.“It is our only shot,” I insisted, pointing to the tight gap marked on the

Tyler. The boat cut smoothly through the calm harbor water as the morning sun broke past the tree line on the shore. I kept one hand resting on the wheel while Ivy stood beside me at the helm, her eyes scanning the dark blue horizon stretching to the south.“The engine sounds steady,” Ivy observed, resting her arm against the console as the wind pulled at her dark hair.“Hale’s transport team took care of the maintenance,” I replied, adjusting our bearing to clear the shallow reef near the harbor mouth. “We have enough fuel to reach the southern cove by midafternoon.”“No phone calls, no emergency alerts and no pack council updates,” Ivy said, letting out a long breath that settled into a quiet smile. “It almost feels wrong.”“Get used to it,” I told her, reaching over to lace my fingers through hers. “We fought through enough basements and storm drains to earn a week of quiet.”Before she could answer, a low, metallic chime echoed from the storage compartment beneath the dash. It was

Ivy.The utility vehicle turned off the coastal highway onto a gravel road that led toward a small harbor tucked behind a line of pine trees. The rain had stopped, leaving the morning sky pale gray while sunlight broke through the clouds along the horizon.“Where are we?” I asked, looking through the rear window as Van brought the vehicle to a stop near a wooden dock.“A private marina,” Van answered, cutting the engine before turning in his seat. “Hale’s transport team arranged a boat to take you down the coast to a house near the border. No league records, no pack boundaries.”Tyler shifted beside me, unwrapping the wet blanket from his shoulders. “What about you?”“I have work in the north,” Van replied, gesturing toward a smaller truck parked beside the docks. “Mason’s old territory needs to be cleaned up before the council tries to claim it.”Noah stepped down from the front seat, then opened the rear door. “The harbor master has the keys to the boat. Everything is set up under a

Tyler.I pushed against the rock lip of the air shaft, gritting my teeth as the pressure against my bruised chest flared into a sharp burn. Below us, the main cavern was completely submerged, with black ocean water churning where Garrett and Caroline had stood moments earlier.“Keep moving up,” I told Ivy, reaching down to help brace Hale's uninjured leg against the narrow stone ledge. “The shaft angles toward the top of the headland.”“I have Hale,” Ivy called, her fingers locked around the collar of Marcus's jacket as she hauled him another three feet into the dry recess. “The air is clear up here.”Hale groaned, his face pale beneath the mud and salt spray coating his skin.“My leg is broken in two places. I'm only slowing you down.”“Nobody is getting left behind in a hole,” Ivy snapped, adjusting her grip on his coat. “Not after everything we went through in that basement.”I wedged my boots into two notches in the stone wall and pushed myself higher. Behind us, a massive wave sl

Ivy.Tyler held his silver blade for one long heartbeat, his knuckles turning white around the hilt, before tossing the weapon onto the wet gravel at his feet. The metal clattered against the stone and slid into a shallow pool of salt water.“Wise decision,” Caroline said, stepping over the pooled water toward us. Her trench coat remained dry around the collar, her leather gloves spotless despite the storm outside. “I expected more resistance from the league’s top enforcer, but I suppose age and injuries soften a man.”“You dragged Hale down here as bait,” Tyler stated, his voice flat as he stepped slightly in front of me, blocking Garrett’s line of sight.“Marcus was remarkably cooperative once Garrett’s men paid a visit to his secondary residence,” Caroline replied, gesturing toward Hale, who lay bound against the rocks. “He gave up the access key for the backup server within five minutes of persuasion.”Hale coughed, his head resting against the stone.“She has the secondary keys,

Ivy.I drew the silver blade from my belt while Tyler stepped between me and the gold-eyed Alpha standing in the shattered doorway.“Who are you?” Tyler asked, keeping his stance low and ready.“My name is Garrett.” The Alpha wiped water from his jaw while keeping his rifle leveled at Tyler’s chest. “Caroline promised my pack the coastal rights if we bring her your heads before midnight.”“Caroline is a fugitive,” I reminded him, tightening my grip on the silver hilt. “She has no legal authority to grant pack territory.”“We do not care about league laws,” Garrett scoffed. “We care about land.”“She is using you,” Tyler warned. “She used the northern dens, then left them dead on the spur line.”“The dens were foolish,” Garrett replied. “They fought for paper money while we fight for soil.”“You will die for nothing,” I snapped.“We will see about that.” Garrett's sneer deepened. He gestured to his two mercenaries and commanded, “Take the woman alive if you can, but drop the enforcer.”
