Clinton's POV

“So,” Chris says, tilting his head slightly, his lips curling into something that looks too close to amusement, “are you saying you're willing to die for a mere human talisman?”

A mere human talisman.

The words don’t just annoy me. They burn. He says it like she’s nothing. Like she already belongs to them.

I don’t even look at him again. If I do, I might kill him right here.

Instead, I turn back to his father…the Alpha. The real threat. “My father will never agree to this.”

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    68. Impossible Rescue

Catherine's POV I don’t stop hitting the door.My fists burn, the sound dull and useless against the thick metal, like the room is swallowing everything I give it. I shout too, though my voice already feels thin, like it doesn’t belong to me anymore. Nothing comes back. No echo. No footsteps. Nothing. So I move.I jump. I pace. I stomp my feet, arms wrapped tight around myself, doing anything I can think of to keep the cold from settling deeper into my bones. It already feels too deep. Like it’s inside me now, not just around me.I don’t let myself stop.Because if I stop, I might not start again.Time stretches in a strange way. It could be minutes. It could be hours. My legs start to shake, and I slow down without meaning to. My breath comes out uneven, fogging the air in front of me.I dig my phone out of my pocket with stiff fingers.Come on.It flickers to life for a second. Just one. The screen glows, and hope rises so fast it almost hurts. I try to press something…anything…but

The real threat. “My father will never agree to this.”“I know,” the Alpha says quietly, his eyes locked on mine as if he’s trying to break into my head. “That’s why you’re here…to make it possible.”These people… they’ve lost their minds.Werewolves don’t just wake up one day and decide to steal another pack’s talisman. Before a human becomes a talisman, there are rituals. Binding rituals. Chains you can’t see but can never break. Marks that tie them to a pack, to an Alpha. Once that bond is made, it can’t just be broken like that.My mind races, trying

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    66. Alone in the Cold

Catherine's POV I arrive at the location Clinton sent me, and immediately a cold knot twists in my stomach. It looks abandoned… like an old warehouse left to rot.Why here? Why now? It’s late, far later than Clinton would ever ask me to meet him somewhere like this.Something in his voice earlier, on the phone, gnaws at me. He didn’t sound like himself. He didn’t sound… whole. He called me, saying he needed my help, and then the call ended before I could even speak. Almost immediately, a text follows, telling me to come hereNo explanation. Not even a single clue about whether he’s eaten, whether he’s hurt, whether the people who kidnapped him are still nearby. Just me, running blindly into the dark, like an obedient fool.I pull out my phone, double-checking the location, muttering, “It is…” and hug myself as if the gesture could protect me.I step forward, every instinct screaming at me, my head whipping around with every small sound. I’m hyper-aware of every shadow, every whisper

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    65. Shadow Fang Deception

Clinton's POV The dungeon door slams open, the loud sound echoing through the space. Two guards walk in, their heavy boots hitting the ground in slow, steady steps. One of them crouches in front of me and starts unlocking the padlock on my chains. The metal scrapes loudly as he works. When he’s done, he moves to Richard and does the same.“Let’s go. The Alpha wants to see you,” the other guard says, his voice anything but friendly. Then he looks at Richard. “Both of you.”I push myself up slowly, my body stiff and sore. Every movement hurts. My muscles feel like they’ve been beaten over and over again. I stretch slightly, trying to ease the pain, but it doesn’t help much.Richard stands too, following my lead.He looks terrible. One look at him and anyone can tell he hasn’t eaten. His face is pale, his lips dry, his eyes sunken. Anger burns inside me.These bastards didn’t even feed us.I don’t care about myself… but him?His stubbornness got him into this mess, and now he’s paying t

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    64. Waiting for a Call

Catherine's POV I keep staring at my phone, hoping, praying it will ring. Why isn’t Amy calling me like she promised? I did exactly what she asked. I got a new phone, retrieved my line, and it’s already past one in the afternoon. Still nothing. The teacher’s voice yanks me back to reality, but I can’t focus. My mind keeps wandering, imagining Clinton alone, hurt, or worse. Will he be okay like Amy said? Is he even alive right now? My stomach twists at the thought.I don’t even notice when the tears start. They just fall, unbidden, streaming down my face until the whole classroom seems to freeze. The teacher’s voice breaks through. “Are you crying?” she asks, stepping closer, her tone soft but concerned.“No,” I lie quickly, trying to act normal, trying to pretend I have control. But the tears won’t stop. And that’s what hurts the most.I didn’t care about any of this before. None of it. But somehow, Clinton…and even Amy...made me feel like showing weakness, even a little, is a crime.

  • My Ex's Brother Is the Hockey Alpha    63. Don’t Let Them See You Weak

Catherine's POV It hasn’t even been minutes since I called Amy from the payphone, but she gets here just before I completely fall apart. The moment I see her, something inside me breaks.“Amy…” My voice cracks as I rush toward her, my chest heaving like I can’t get enough air. “They took him. He’s gone.”The words don’t even feel real as they leave my mouth. Saying it out loud makes it worse, like I’m confirming something I don’t want to believe.Amy doesn’t say anything at first. She just pulls me into a tight hug.“We will find him,” she says softly, her hand moving gently through my hair, trying to calm me down. But it doesn’t work. I pull away from her abruptly, wiping my face with shaky hands. My mind is racing, jumping from one thought to another, trying to find something…anything…that makes sense.“Let’s go to the police station and make a report,” I say quickly, already turning like I’m about to start running.Amy’s reaction is instant.“No, we can’t do that.” She shuts the i
