KAIRA

Eight Hours Earlier

My vision came suddenly. It tore me away from the trip back to Oryndale and showed me Dearon running down the hill with his warriors, all in their wolf forms. The enemy's army charged at them from the other side. Then, a strange purple light flooded them in a venomous wave. The light crushed their bones, melted down their skin, burned their bodies…

A violent shriek tore through my throat as the vision shattered in front of my eyes. My body rattled so badly, I nearly fell off Aura's back. More than a few warriors turned my way, wondering if I hadn't gone insane. Torin grabbed Aura's reins, pulling me closer. “What happened? Are you all right?” His eyes frantically scanned me from head to toe.

“It's Dearon,” I croaked, wiping the tears off my cheeks. “He's going to die… They are all going to die…”

Torin signaled for everyone to halt. Then he helped me off the horse and led me by the trees. He waited for me to lean back and take a few deep breaths before he aske

  • My Fated Enemy   Summoned

I had never particularly wondered how many people traveled with the Princess, but now I knew the answer: many, too many. She had her own legion of handmaidens ready to comply with her every demand. The chambers the Princess had been given had been decorated according to her wishes, and now her rooms were filled with lush gold and white feathers. Unlike the quite modest dress the maid who had brought me here wore, the handmaidens who surrounded the Princess were all clad like the room, with golden gowns and feathery ornaments. The Princess sat on a throne-like chair with her feet resting on the footstool—a golden footstool, naturally. She was dressed in a cream gown embroidered with gold. The dress had been made of countless layers of delicate silk, making her look like a queen from some exotic kingdom.I looked down at my simple, white tunic and a pair of leggings and felt like I was undressed for the occasion… whatever this occasion might have been. The handmaidens must have thought

  • My Fated Enemy   Stalling

“So we were wrong?” Torin huffed and leaned back in his seat. “Farindoria has numbers AND strength?” He shook his head, a few curses slipping free.I gave him a wry smile and looked around the room. Dearon had gathered those he could trust in his study as soon as I'd returned with Prince Seth. After I'd told them in detail about my trip—skipping only my awkward and insulting conversation with the Prince—the smiles faded, and the room filled with gloominess.“Guess we should be glad then,” Nazo said dryly before moving a stool closer to the table and sitting on it. “If they fight with us in this war, we'll finally have a decent chance against Sarendonia and Eudoris.”I looked at my father. He hadn't said a word since he'd entered the study. Now he was sitting in the armchair, rubbing his chin and staring blankly at the wall where a large map was hanging.Dearon sat in an armchair beside him, his nails digging into the armrests, his jaw clenched. “It somehow seems too good to be true.”

  • My Fated Enemy   A War Dance

The early morning sun illuminated the courtyard as I walked toward the stables. Prince Seth had wanted to meet me there. Of course, Torin, Father, and Dearon had tried to convince me not to go with him alone, but I'd reminded them I had to at least pretend to obey him. How else would I force him to lower his guard? The bright side was that I could now wear something other than a gown with a tightly laced corset. Gods only knew how I managed to survive dinner in that gown. I sure as three hells didn't envy Princess Auretta in that matter. As far as I knew, that type of gown was her usual daily attire…I drew a deep breath and fixed my eyes on the two stable boys. One of them led Aura out from her stable stall. The other held the reins of a perfectly white stallion. I could only guess that the horse belonged to Seth.“His name is Neul.” Seth materialized behind me, nearly causing me to jump. “He's the fastest horse in all of Farindoria.” He walked over to the horse and stroked his mane.

  • My Fated Enemy   Dining with the Royals

“This was a mistake,” I muttered as I stood in front of the mirror.“You're talking about the dress or dinner?” Torin drawled as he leaned back against the wall in the opposite corner of my room.I pulled up the black, shimmering corset, trying to stuff my breasts deeper inside it. “Both,” I groaned. He breathed out a laugh. “It's not fear I see on my pretty sister's face, is it?”I caught his gaze in the mirror's reflection and flipped him off. “You know it's partially your fault I have to show up at this dinner, don't you?”“Well…” He walked toward me. “It's still better than you meeting with this dickhead alone.”I rolled my eyes, turning to him. “Yeah… because it's so much better to dine with him AND his sister.”“At least Dearon will keep an eye on that fucker,” he stated.“Seriously?” I gave him a crooked smile. “He will be too busy wrapping Auretta around his little finger to pay attention.”Torin snorted. “Trust me. He WILL pay attention.”“But even so, he cannot react,” I arg

  • My Fated Enemy   The Risky Plan

KAIRA“No, no, and hells no!” Torin glared at me. “I will not let you do this! This guy was born in a kingdom where they have zero respect for women! That's fucking dangerous to—”I burst into laughter. “Seriously? That's your argument?” I straightened up in my seat. “Let me remind you that I grew up in Sarendonia. I had to deal with all kinds of fuckers with no respect for women. I can handle one royal prick with an overgrown ego.”I glanced at Dearon and saw the way his jaw clenched and his hands fisted, but unlike my brother, he said nothing. Good. He had no right to question my decision, not when he chose to marry Auretta.“Unfortunately, this task would require more than simply dealing with Seth Calogero.” Nazo gave me a wry smile. “You would need to sneak into places he wouldn't like to show you. I doubt it will be easy.”I blew out a breath and leaned back in my seat. “I know it might be risky, but what choice do we have? Do you have a spy able to infiltrate the Farindorian arm

  • My Fated Enemy   Suspicions and Jealousy

DEARONI looked at the smiling Princess, and my blood turned into liquid fire. The room felt silent, and I could see Kaira's face turning pale. Seth Calogero smirked, his eyes roaming up and down Kaira's body. The urge to claw his eyes out grew, and I knew that the longer I stood there, the more probable it was that I would resort to violence…“Princess Auretta,” I strained through my teeth. “A word?” I stomped toward her, grabbed her arm, and pulled her toward the door before her mouth even opened.Seth growled, his claws coming out. A part of me waited for him to give me a reason. I was itching to punch him for a while now. Auretta must have seen it in my eyes and quickly turned to her brother, giving him a nervous smile. “I'll… go with Alpha Dearon.”Kaira barely glanced at me—at the place where my hand touched Auretta—then she looked away. Fuck. I could barely stand seeing her hurt, but I had to restrain my instinct, currently screaming to embrace her, to kiss her, to tell everyon
