Hearing her high heels clanking against the cold marble floor, everyone quickly stood up from their chairs. Their eyes sparkled as they looked fondly at their CEO who stepped inside the building.
Donning a white suit with her brown wavy locks cascading down her back, Evelyn walked with heavy steps while her stern gaze roved the room. Her employees greeted her politely and she acknowledged them with a curt nod.
“Good morning Ma’am,” Sara, her secretary greeted her and gushed a smile but as usual earned an imperceptible nod. She opened the door for her as Evelyn entered her extravagant and spacious cabin.
Dark brown walls were complemented by golden curtains that were made of pure silk. The ceiling was black. Her mahogany desk was at the center while the couches were placed in one corner with a small glass table in between. A flamboyant chandelier was placed in the mid that was scattering the golden light all over the room.
Evelyn headed to her table and scrapped the swivel chair before sitting on it. Placing her purse, she opened her laptop and turned it on.
Sara who was busy admiring her Boss nearly had a heartbreak when her eyes met with her icy ones. She quickly took out her tab and began reciting her schedule for the day.
“You have a meeting with Mr. Raymonds at 11 and there’s good news Ma’am. The HR of the Wills Corporation called this morning. They have accepted our offer.” She chirped.
The news brought a smile of relief to her lips.
“Great then. So, when is Mr. Wills calling a meeting to order?” Evelyn spoke but her expression hardened when Sara turned unnerved at her question.
“T-They haven’t decided the date yet Ma’am. Mr. Wills had delivered a message through his P.A. that he would like to discuss something before scheduling the meeting.” Sara spoke and quickly averted her gaze. Her grip on her tablet increased as she could feel the raging waves oozing from her Boss.
“What is he asking for?” Evelyn grated and shot a glare at the poor girl.
Sara licked her chapped lips before replying meekly, “He has invited you to the inaugural ceremony of his brand new hotel, The Grand Avenue.”
A pregnant silence fell in the room as soon as she completed. Sara bit her lips and waited for Evelyn to kick her out of the cabin but to her surprise, it never happened.
“What’s the time?”
Her head instantly got whipped up as she looked at Evelyn who was staring at her coldly. Sara thought that maybe she would decline the invitation straightaway but she accepted it. Great.
Her sudden interest boosted new confidence in her. Straightening up her spine, she quickly replied “7 pm”
Evelyn nodded, “Keep my clothes and car ready beforehand.”
Sara bobbed her head and passed her a smile before exiting the room.
Once the door closed, Evelyn exhaled a deep breath and leaned on her chair.
Her assumption turned right. She had judged Ryan well in the first meeting only. The project was important for her but the man whom she was planning to work with was a fucking pervert.
Evelyn after leaving Dylan had turned into one cold-blooded workaholic woman. She kept herself miles away from the relationship but the people with whom she work swooned over her beauty. At just 22 years of age, she had built her mighty empire. It wasn’t new to see her name hitting the headlines of every single newspaper.
Evelyn Clarke was a powerful name in the business world and a popular figure amongst the elites. From attending social charitable events to holding conferences, giving interviews, and dealing with clients, she was flat out like a lizard drinking water.
But as the most beautiful flower is the target of all hungry eyes, Evelyn had been approached by every single person whom she had met with. She maintained her relationship formally but those sleazeballs would continue pestering her.
Evelyn swirled her chair and glanced at the wooden shelf behind her that was bedecked with numerous medals, trophies, and certificates. Her eyes lit up because it was the result of her hard work but as soon as they fell on the row of fresh bouquets dotting the last shelf, her expression turned sour. Receiving bouquets wasn’t new for her but she knew that most of them were from her crazy fanboys.
Her nose scrunched as she glared at the last bouquet that was made up of beautiful blue roses. Pushing her chair back, Evelyn ambled towards it and grabbed the small pink color card that was peeking through the blue blossoms.
She opened it.
“A small gift for my jewel.”
Rage swarmed in her chocolate hues. She crushed the paper between her fingers before throwing it away.
“Ryan Wills.” She spoke with clenched teeth and curled her fingers in a fist.
Evelyn hated that man to her core. She had made it clear to him that she wasn’t interested either in him or in his luxury but the man was still chasing her like a rabid dog.
Ryan was a prominent figure in the business world. Hailing from Australia, he owned multiple chains of hotels, restaurants, clubs, and pubs in many countries. He recently opened his new hotel in Seattle and was planning on expanding his empire in America too but for that, he needed a strong collaboration with the top-notch companies in the country.
Evelyn was over the moon when Wills Corporation approached Maria Estates first with the proposal as she always wanted to work with them. She had a deep respect for Ryan but her opinions took a 360-degree turn once she met him. Their first meeting was still vivid in her mind when Ryan was shamelessly checking her out while she was discussing the details of the future project. That one incident sowed seeds of immense hatred in her heart for him.
But the project was important and Evelyn was well known for her prudence and professionalism. She always kept the grudges at bay when it was related to her company’s reputation.
Closing her eyes, Evelyn took deep breaths to simmer down.
“Let’s get over it. It’s just a simple party.” Convincing herself, she resumed her work but her mind kept drifting off to the terrible evening that she had to spend with that jerk.
“Welcome, Ms. Clarke”Steve, Ryan’s P.A. greeted Evelyn with a wide smile on his face. Evelyn smiled at him back and shook hands with him. Steve then led her inside and headed to Ryan who had his back facing them as he was engrossed in conversing with his friends.Evelyn watched how his shoulders tensed when Ryan whispered something in his ears, probably informing him about her arrival. She sucked a deep breath when he turned around and their eyes clashed.“Oh my, what a surprise, Ms. Clarke.” He spoke and stepped closer. Evelyn shot him a cold look but then her eyes dropped to his right palm he extended for her to take. Feigning a smile, she put her palm on his.“Thanks for inviting me here, Mr. Wills. I am sure my presence must have fulfilled all your conditions for signing the deal.” She jeered. His eyes darkened. Giving her a tight-lipped smile, he engulfed her small hand in his large one and brought it closer to his lips.“Indeed Ms. Clarke. Your presence graced my party and my e
Terrified and trembling bodies watched their Boss who unlike them was composed and relaxed. Her fingers clutched the newspaper tightly while her chocolate hues were fixated on the headline of the day which shocked the whole of America.“Ryan Wills, President of Wills Corporation passed away last night in a tragic fire accident.”Sara watched how Evelyn skimmed over the article calmly unlike her who was nervous as a cat. Her hands had turned cold. And it wasn’t because of the air conditioner but because of the fear of the woman sitting in front of her.Sara was the one who had handed that box filled with explosives to Ryan and once she exited the building, there was a huge explosion. She remained frozen on the spot unless the screams and cries rang in her ears. But instead of checking up on the situation, her legs automatically took her to her car as she hurriedly left the scene.Joseph, the CFO of Maria Estates, on the other hand, was patiently waiting for his Boss’s verdict on the in
(Warning: Triggering content ahead.)Dread.After so many years, Evelyn was suddenly overpowered by this emotion. Her emotions were haywire. She couldn’t help but feel cautious. Ryan’s death wasn’t troubling her anymore. Rather her new cause of worry was Sara’s revelation. But Evelyn wasn’t scared after hearing that instead it only bolstered her belief.’Cause, she had experienced this earlier too.′Evelyn always had this constant feeling of being watched. Though she had shrugged it off thinking that it was her paranoia, Sara’s words again turned everything back to square one.Since last year, this constant haunting feeling of being stalked had turned stronger, and from being occasional, it turned routine. To catch her stalker, Evelyn herself hacked into the CCTV of various hotels where her meetings were organized but found nothing. Either the managers of those hotels were working hand in glove with that evil soul or her stalker erased the evidence before she could catch it.Swirling
Evelyn Damn, why is it so hot?My hands on their own made their way to my cheeks which were burning. I opened my eyes only to be blinded by the sunlight peeping through the slits of the curtain.“Argg”Groaning, I placed my right elbow balancing myself on it while with the other, I continued scratching my eyes which were swollen.“Was I sleeping in an oven?” I spoke groggily when suddenly a high-pitched scream rang in my ears that almost stopped my breath.‘That voice... it was me.’Panicking, I checked my surroundings only to find myself in my room.‘But wasn’t I with...Miller?’A soundless gasp escaped my mouth when the memories of that dreadful incident flashed in my mind.I went to his company to finalize the deal. That fucking pervert tried taking advantage of me and I was fighting with him. But,“But then what happened?”Closing my eyes, I rubbed my temples trying hard to recall but all I could see was darkness. Removing the duvet, I checked myself. I was in my nightgown.“Don’
Maria Estates“Sorry to disturb you Ma’am but the situation had turned critical. We can’t control it anymore.”Joseph told Evelyn with a heavy heart who was sitting on her chair, her gaze stuck on the bundle of newspapers sprawled all over her table.Another tragedy knocked on her door as someone murdered Miller and blasted the entire building. A way to erase all the evidence. Evelyn as usual didn’t remember that Miller was killed ruthlessly by a dark shadow who brutally strangled him with a leather belt. All she knew was that she was molested by Miller and fortunately got saved by Brandon. But for some reason, her heart wasn’t ready to accept him as her savior. Her employees greeted her with this shocking news that blew her brain away. First Ryan, now Miller. Whoever approached her with evil intentions was being wiped off by her guardian angel. Someone was protecting her while staying in the shadows but his ways were wrong and she had to face the consequences of his crimes. And just
“Police had dismissed the interrogation and believed that it was an accident. Mr. Mason Gilbert is now in charge of finding new clients for the project and the reporters who were incriminating Ma’am have been caught.” Sara narrated the Mafia everything in one breath.Tearing his gaze away from the shivering girl, Dylan looked at his most trusted man.“Where are they now, Elijah?”“In the basement, Boss.” The cherry-haired male replied to him in a crisp tone.“Kill them.”Dylan spat and shifted his gaze back to Sara who paled in response. But ignoring her terrified state, he commanded his men to open fire on his hostages which meant killing the twenty people who were locked in his basement.Sara was busy processing what was happening around her when his men nodded and took their leave to accomplish their deadly mission, leaving her all alone in the room with a man armed with a loaded pistol.‘They’re going to die.’The thought itself turned her blood cold. A bead of sweat trickled down
“Argg!!” Groaning out loud, Evelyn grabbed her throbbing head while massaging her temples softly. Her face scrunched in pain as she felt her head would explode. Once her vision turned clear, she pushed away the covers and sat up on the bed. “Here” A palm came into her view holding a few white tablets. Evelyn was still in a daze so she simply lifted her head but the moment her eyes recognized the figure, she lost her cool. “For headache. Don’t you dare consider them drugs?” Brandon chuckled and perched on the mattress. His gaze fell over her frail figure made him frown in worry. Evelyn wasn’t in the mood to deal with him so she simply looked away and scooted to the other side of the bed. His smile dropped when she stood up and padded to the bathroom without saying a word to him. “I didn’t bring you home.” Brandon quickly spoke. Evelyn halted but didn’t turn around. He noticed how her shoulders got tensed. So, he kept the painkillers on the tray before standing up from the bed.
The sound of clicking keys and the constant ringing of telephones were the only sounds that could be heard in the closed room. Adjusting her glasses, Evelyn clicked on the new tab. A contended smile reached her lips as she finally got her hands on the file that she had been searching for days.Evelyn immediately clicked the download option to save it on her system and mailed it to her ID so that she could make many copies of it. The file was confidential and she had planned not to reveal it to her two fly-by-night assistants. They had given her enough reasons to doubt their fidelity.Suddenly her phone rang. She picked it up.“What?”“The clients have left for Maria Estates, Boss. They’ll be arriving in thirty minutes.” Joseph told her.“Great. Tell Sara to be in the meeting room and check if anything has been missed out. Krystal and Justin will be welcoming them.” She paused before speaking in a low voice, “What’s the update?”Joseph stiffened after hearing her grave tone, “Uhmm, I a
