Chapter 3 On the face

Author: Ela Osaretin
That evening, Amelia met up with her best friend, Jessica and after telling her how the day had gone, Jessica was thrilled that Amelia had finally separated from Damian.

Jessica never liked Damian because of how he treated Amelia and so she was beyond happy that her friend was separated from that douche.

She suggested going clubbing to celebrate.

As soon as Jessica and Amelia walked into the club, Amelia instantly felt that it was a good decision to come here.

She wanted a strong drink and then enjoy the music.

The DJ behind the desk was one of Jessica’s favorites. Her hair was twisted in braids at the top of her head, smashed by her big headphones. She threw Jessica a small wave as they walked in.

Amelia and Jessica made a beeline for the bar-stand, then they ordered vodka cranberry.

After that, they meandered to the dance floor. The music pumped in their chest pushing its life force through their veins.

Their hips swat to the beat. When Amelia danced, the music lifted her up and the world around her disappeared.

The lights were suddenly dull, the people blur and her worries melted away.

Hands gripped her waist, she turned to see about three men standing around her, wanting to dance with her.

Amelia looked through the three and decided to dance with one.

As she danced with the man, she then recalled she was yet to even have sex. She had wanted to consummate her marriage with Damian but Damian wouldn’t touch her.

Now that she thought about it, she was glad her first time wasn’t with him anyway.

But at the same time, she wanted to experience sex, she didn’t even know if she’d ever get married again, she didn’t even think she could even fall in love again.

Still, she wanted to explore, she looked up at the man she was dancing with.

He didn’t really seem like the type she wanted to explore with.

“AMELIA, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!” Someone suddenly yelled behind her.

Amelia turned and see Damian.

She frowned. What was he doing here?

He suddenly pulled her away from the man.

“That’s it! You’re done dancing!”

The man scoffed. “Who the hell are you? Her boyfriend?!”

“Her husband!” Damian shouted.

Amelia eyed him.

The nerves of this man!

Damian grabbed her hand, wanting to drag her away but the man grabbed her other arm and pulled her back and she found herself in a pretty hot game of tug-of-war.

Damian spun around, keeping his hand on her, he swung his other fist at the man.

The punch to the face knocked the man backward.

“How dare you drag my wife with me?!” Damian shook out his hand and dragged Amelia away.

When they got to the quieter hallway, Amelia tugged away her hand from his.

“Have you lost your mind? And what did you just call me? Your wife?”

Damian turned to face her. “I only said that to scare him away.”

“Did I tell you that I needed you to scare him away?! And shouldn’t you be tending to your sick mistress?”

“Because I’m with Sophia now, you want to flirt with other men to get my attention?”

Amelia huffed. “You’re delusional. What do I need your attention for? I was having a good time as a single lady and you had to ruin it.”

“Does being single mean you should come to a place like this and have men all over you?! Places like these doesn’t suit you.”

She laughed. “Who are you to decide that? Damian, we’re divorced, where I go and what I do is none of your business. Stay away from me.” She warned and turned around.

But he stopped her.

“I was actually looking for you to ask about earlier, about how you possibly know the Gifted doctor, I still can’t understand how…”

“Amelia?” They both turned to see Lilian.

When Amelia had investigated Sophia, she had found out that this woman was Sophia’s best friend.

Plus, Lilian and Sophia had also tried to provoke her several times.

“I knew it was you. I saw you on the dance floor with different men.” Lilian said moving closer to Damian and Amelia.

“How can you go dancing with other men when you’re married? Are you that despicable? You’re literally rubbing the Wright’s name through the mud.”

Since their divorce wasn’t publicized yet, most people still thought they were married.

Lilian continued to taunt her. “So this is what you always do? You go to clubs to meet different men, how can you cheat on your dear husband?”

“Not everyone is as despicable as you are, Lilian and if you don’t shut your mouth this instant, I’ll tell Sophia about the fact that you tried to seduce Damian by sending nudes pictures of yourself.”

Lilian’s eyes dilated.

Even Damian was shocked to hear that.

He had never received any nude pictures from Lilian before.

Amelia crossed her arms and then explained.

“This snake possibly mistook my number for yours. She sent me nude pictures of herself with despicable captions like, ‘my boobs are softer than Sophia’s, wouldn’t you like to feel them, Damian?’ ‘I can please you better than Sophia’ my…”

“Stop!” Lilian yelled in mortification.

“Li…lies. She’s lying!” Lilian thundered.

Amelia just slung her an unbothered look.

“I’ll teach you a lesson to not frame others!” With that, Lilian lunge at Amelia, lifting her hand to hit her.

Amelia reacted quickly, grabbing Lilian’s arm, pulling it backward, she slapped Lilian twice on the face.

"Grandma, this has nothing to do with repaying a debt. I genuinely have feelings for Amelia. She's the only woman I will ever love in this life," Lucas said, his tone cold but sincere. It was the first time Margot had ever heard him speak so plainly and honestly. The gravity of his words caught her off guard. This was a rare moment in Lucas’ life, one where he cast aside his usual reserve to confess his affection toward a woman. It was painfully clear that Lucas truly cared for Amelia. Cared for her enough to speak more than a few clipped words like he used to. Cared for her enough to let down his usually rigid, indifferent guard.Cared for her enough to say aloud what he usually kept hidden, especially given his usual indifference to women.Margot let out a long, quiet sigh. Her thoughts drifted to the pleading eyes of her late husband in his final moments. Despite everything, she still felt the need to try once more. "I'm not trying to force you into marrying Vickie, but when it come

"Well, that explains it. Desmond’s into that divorced woman, so he was trying to shake Lorraine off. Who'd have thought he'd fall for someone people consider used goods?"Suddenly, Desmond yanked his arm free from Lorraine's grasp and turned to her with an icy glare. "Stop clinging to me! Or don't blame me if I stop being nice!"Then, without another word, he stormed toward the man who had insulted Amelia and, without hesitation, landed a solid punch to his face. No one had the right to insult Amelia! She was not used goods, they didn't even know a fraction of her worth. These people were just blinded by their arrogance and shallow judgment.Terrified by the sudden burst of violence, the guests all scrambled back, afraid of getting caught in the chaos.Lorraine stood there, paralyzed with shock, watching Desmond lash out like a storm unleashed. Since the day she met him, she had never seen him act out like this, striking without warning, pure fury in his every move.As the man was beat

“Eve…” Sophia grabbed Eve’s arm and leaned in to whisper, "Just say it. One word. That's all it takes. Otherwise, we'll all get kicked out."Eve blinked as the fog in her brain cleared, and reality hit her like a slap. They hadn't jumped through all those hoops just to get kicked out now. They'd put in way too much effort to get invited to this birthday banquet, had even dropped half a billion on a famous painting, all to win Margot's favor. They couldn't get thrown out. They had to stay, no matter what. Otherwise, everything they'd done up until now would be for nothing.Once again, Eve felt it was all that bitch Amelia’s fault! If Amelia had just agreed to sell them Feathers of the Divine, they wouldn't have been forced to spend half a billion on a backup. Then, Eve’s lips twisted into a cold smile. The irony was delicious, Amelia was here too, hoping to curry favor with Margot using the famous painting Feathers of the Divine. But Eve assumed she and her family had the upper hand. Th

The idea that Desmond would risk his family's reputation for a divorced woman was almost unthinkable. Most were convinced Xavier’s anger would know no bounds. As tension filled the air, a few guests hastily slipped into the banquet hall, fearing they might offend Desmond because of their hostility toward Amelia and thus be barred from entry.Sophia and Eve fumed, their efforts to turn the crowd against Amelia unraveling before their eyes, thanks to Desmond’s bold intervention. Just a few sentences from Desmond were enough to scatter most of the onlookers, breaking the crowd's mounting dislike for Amelia.“Mr. Miller…" Eve stepped forward as she spoke, but Desmond cut her off coldly.“What? Looking to get thrown out?"Eve paled and quickly sought shelter behind Damian.Damian stepped forward, protective instincts flaring. "What's the meaning of threatening my sister?"Damian fixed his eyes on Desmond and then on Amelia, only to snap his gaze right back to Desmond, sharp and unrelenting.

Sophia worried Amelia might simply brush off Eve’s provocation, so she quickly stepped in and said, "Amelia, I don't think you got the invitation dishonestly, but, well, others might not be so sure. How about you…"She let the sentence trail off deliberately, the implication sharp as a blade, Amelia needed to prove her innocence. Before Amelia could utter a word, the crowd had already erupted into cutting murmurs.“This woman carries herself with no class at all. There's no way she got that invitation the right way."“I actually thought she was someone from high society. But turns out she's just some temptress who got here by clinging to a sugar daddy."“She doesn't strike me as respectable. First, her adoptive parents cut her off. Then, she became a cast-off ex-wife from a prominent family. She must've done something serious for both families to disown her."“Didn't you hear what that lady just said about her? She has a sugar daddy. Bet she cheated, that's why she ended up divorced."

Eve blinked, and Sophia leaned closer, lowering her voice even further. "She's just an adopted daughter, booted out of the bankrupt Brown family. And she's divorced. You think she wants that aired in public? Of course not. So, keep it to ourselves."At that, Eve’s eyes glinted with malicious glee. An idea had taken root. She brushed Sophia’s hand off and sashayed toward Amelia, her lips curled into a syrupy smile. "Oh my! Isn't this my brother's ex-wife?" she called out deliberately, her voice carrying across the room.Heads turned. More guests paused, curious. People loved drama, especially when it was someone else's. Those who didn't care simply strolled away, not wanting to waste their time.“Amelia, you look absolutely radiant tonight! I didn't expect that even after the Brown family went bankrupt in Meloria, you'd still have enough cash for such a glow-up." Then, as if struck by sudden realization, Eve brought a hand to her mouth and gasped theatrically. "Oh! That's right. You wer
