Emma stood frozen in the middle of her living room.

Her phone slowly slipped from her trembling fingers and landed on the couch.

The call had ended.

But the stranger's words continued to echo inside her head.

Daniel Hart isn't your husband.

Impossible.

Absolutely impossible.

For seven years, she had lived with Daniel.

Shared a home with him.

Shared holidays, birthdays, arguments, laughter, and dreams.

She had married him.

Hadn't she?

Emma suddenly wasn't sure anymore.

Her breathing became uneven.

Everything that had seemed impossible three days ago was now becoming reality.

The secret house.

Sophia.

Lily.

The photographs.

The missing memories.

The anonymous warnings.

And now someone claiming that the man she had called her husband for seven years wasn't her husband at all.

A sharp pain pulsed behind her eyes.

She squeezed them shut.

Fragments of memories flickered through her mind.

Rain.

Screaming tires.

A man's voice shouting her name.

Not Daniel's voice.

Someone else's.

Then darkness.

Emma gasped and opened her eyes.

The memory vanished before she could grasp it.

Leaving only confusion behind.

"What is happening to me?" she whispered.

Her apartment suddenly felt unsafe.

Too quiet.

Too exposed.

For the first time, she couldn't shake the feeling that someone might be watching her.

The photograph from earlier proved that possibility wasn't paranoia.

It was fact.

Someone had taken a picture of her from outside the building.

Someone knew where she lived.

Someone knew she was investigating.

And someone wanted her to stop.

The realization made her skin crawl.

Without wasting another second, Emma closed all the curtains and locked every door.

Then she sat at her dining table and spread out everything she had collected.

The photographs.

The notes.

The emails.

The university article.

The evidence looked like pieces of a puzzle.

The problem was she didn't know what the final picture was supposed to be.

One thing stood out immediately.

Sophia.

Her name kept appearing.

Ten years ago.

The present day.

The secret house.

If anyone knew the truth, it was her.

Emma made a decision.

Tomorrow, she was going to find Sophia.

Face-to-face.

No more guessing.

No more assumptions.

She wanted answers.

And she intended to get them.

---

That night, Daniel came home just after eleven.

Emma heard the front door open.

The familiar sound made her tense.

She sat quietly on the couch, pretending to watch television.

Daniel entered moments later.

His suit jacket hung loosely over one shoulder.

His tie was gone.

His expression looked exhausted.

But when he saw her, he smiled.

"You're still awake."

Emma forced herself to smile back.

"Couldn't sleep."

His eyes studied her carefully.

For a moment, she wondered if he could somehow see through her.

See the fear.

The suspicion.

The secrets she now carried.

Instead, he walked over and kissed her forehead.

The gesture felt strangely painful.

Once upon a time, it had made her feel loved.

Now it made her question everything.

"Everything okay?" Daniel asked.

Emma held his gaze.

A thousand questions screamed inside her mind.

Who are you?

Why are you lying?

What happened ten years ago?

Why are people warning me about you?

But she asked none of them.

Not yet.

"I'm fine."

Daniel nodded slowly.

As if he didn't entirely believe her.

Then his phone buzzed.

Emma noticed the way his expression instantly changed.

Tension.

Concern.

Something else.

Something darker.

Daniel glanced at the screen.

Then quickly locked it.

Too quickly.

Emma saw enough.

The name Sophia flashed briefly before disappearing.

A cold wave swept through her chest.

Daniel noticed her staring.

Their eyes met.

For the first time, an uncomfortable silence settled between them.

"Work?" Emma asked casually.

Daniel hesitated.

Then nodded.

"Yeah."

The lie came effortlessly.

That frightened her more than anything.

Seven years.

How many lies had there been?

How many moments had been fake?

Later that night, after Daniel fell asleep, Emma quietly reached for his phone.

Her heart pounded.

If he woke up, she wouldn't be able to explain herself.

Carefully, she lifted it from the nightstand.

The screen lit up.

Locked.

Emma frowned.

Daniel had changed the security settings.

She knew because she used to have access.

Now she didn't.

Her stomach sank.

Was he hiding something?

Or had he realized she was getting close to the truth?

Suddenly, Daniel shifted beside her.

Emma nearly dropped the phone.

His arm moved.

Then he settled again.

Still asleep.

Emma slowly returned the phone to its place.

Sleep was impossible after that.

By sunrise, she had already made up her mind.

She was going to see Sophia.

Today.

---

The address led her to a quiet neighborhood on the outskirts of the city.

Emma parked across the street.

Her pulse quickened.

The same house.

The same house where she'd seen Daniel holding Lily.

The same house that had shattered her world.

For several minutes, she sat inside the car gathering courage.

Then she stepped out.

The morning air felt cold against her skin.

One step.

Then another.

Finally, she reached the front door.

She knocked.

Silence.

Emma knocked again.

This time, footsteps approached from inside.

The door slowly opened.

Sophia stood there.

For a moment, neither woman spoke.

Sophia's expression changed instantly when she recognized Emma.

Shock.

Fear.

Then something unexpected.

Sadness.

As though she'd been expecting this day for years.

"You," Sophia whispered.

Emma swallowed hard.

"We need to talk."

Sophia glanced over her shoulder.

Nervous.

Almost frightened.

Then she stepped outside and quietly closed the door behind her.

"What are you doing here?" Sophia asked.

Emma laughed bitterly.

"I think that's my question."

Sophia's face paled.

For several seconds, she simply stared at Emma.

Then she said something that made Emma's blood run cold.

"You shouldn't be here."

"I want answers."

"No."

Sophia shook her head.

"You want the truth."

"Same thing."

"No." Sophia's voice trembled. "Trust me. It isn't."

Emma stared at her.

"What does that mean?"

Sophia looked around nervously.

As if she expected someone to appear.

Then she stepped closer.

"So much has happened," she whispered.

"You don't remember any of it, do you?"

Emma's heart skipped.

"What am I supposed to remember?"

Sophia's eyes filled with emotion.

The answer seemed to physically hurt her.

Before she could speak, a black SUV suddenly turned the corner.

Both women froze.

The vehicle stopped directly in front of the house.

The rear door opened.

A tall man stepped out.

Sophia's face drained of color.

Pure terror filled her eyes.

"No," she whispered.

The man began walking toward them.

Slow.

Confident.

Dangerous.

Emma had never seen him before.

But something about him felt familiar.

Disturbingly familiar.

As he approached, his gaze locked onto Emma.

Not with surprise.

Not with c

uriosity.

But recognition.

Like he had been searching for her.

For a very long time.

Then he spoke.

And the words that left his mouth shattered everything.

"Emma."

His voice was calm.

Certain.

"I've finally found you."

Sophia grabbed Emma's arm.

Hard.

Painfully hard.

Her entire body was shaking.

"Run," she whispered.

Emma stared at her.

"What?"

Sophia's terrified eyes filled with tears.

"Run before he remembers who you are.”
