Plot Twists

Feel-Good Story

Scumbag

Ruthless

I notice that the surveillance camera we bought when we got married keeps glitching. I casually open the accompanying video app while I request an on-site repair from customer service. I suddenly hear Edward Zucker, my husband who swore to love me for the rest of his life, wishing for my death. "Maddie treats me well and hasn't done anything wrong. She has lost her parents in the car accident, though, so she's of no use to me now." I then hear my seemingly gentle and kind in-laws, Victor Zucker and Mary Smith, thoughtfully toss out various suggestions. "You can just sneak something into her food since she's allergic to so many things. You can also claim she suffered from depression after losing her parents and jumped off a building, then cremate her body on the very same day. "Your cousin just got diagnosed with a psychiatric condition, so he won't face criminal charges for murder." Edward struggles to pick the best way for me to die. "It can't look suspicious. I have to secure the three-million-dollar inheritance her parents left her without a single slipup." I tremble violently with rage. If they want me dead, then let's see who ends up dying first!

Chapter 1
I noticed the surveillance footage on the phone glitching several times, with my husband Edward Zucker's voice coming through. "I think we can just get her a decent grave plot. It's the least I can do for Maddie since her parents have been helping me out for the past three years."That surveillance footage cut off completely after that.I declined the repair service and went home as if nothing had happened.Edward gently wrapped his arms around me. "You haven't been doing well since your parents passed away, so Mom and Dad came especially to look after you, Maddie."He had clearly brought his parents—Victor Zucker and Mary Smith—over to kill me!I looked at Edward in a daze, recalling how he had never spoken harshly to me in the three years we had been married. He wouldn't even let me do the housework, saying, "I want to cherish and protect you for as long as I live, Maddie."I recalled how Mom and Dad had always told me that I had married a good man, which prompted them to pour

Chapter 2
Edward pointed at me, filled with rage. "You reminded me just this morning to stay away from the sliced bread on the table because the peanuts in it would trigger my allergy! Do you expect me to believe that you've forgotten about it? Do you take me for a fool, Maddie?"I crossed my arms and scoffed. "I have my allergy list posted right there on the kitchen wall, yet your mother said she forgot about my cilantro allergy. Is she taking me for a fool too? I've been meaning to ask something as well—why did you suddenly dismiss the housekeeper?"Edward looked away, avoiding my gaze. "I-It's because she wasn't good at her job."He was clearly worried that the housekeeper might get in the way and expose him after he killed me. That was fine with me, since I felt the same way about her getting in my way now.Mary snapped out of her stupor and finally called for an ambulance.I sat in a chair once we arrived at the hospital, feeling pretty good as I scrolled through my phone.Mary trembl

I did as Edward directed and leaned back on the railing, prompting him to nod in approval. I pursed my lips in an act of playfulness after a while and complained, "I've been doing it for quite some time, and my clothes got dirty from leaning on the railing. I don't want to take photos anymore, Edward."Edward eyed the railing suspiciously, stepping up to test it with a push right as I lowered the pot of roses. He had forgotten that I had over ten years of dance training and possessed incredible flexibility.I quietly snuck up behind him and suddenly yelled, "Watch out!"Edward was caught off guard and lost his footing.I lunged forward to grab him, but I used too much force and sent him falling backward even faster. In the next instant, a loud thud echoed.Edward was sprawled on the ground below, his right leg bent at an unnatural angle while blood slowly pooled beneath him. Those who witnessed the scene while passing by screamed at the horrific sight of him.Victor and Mary, w

I watched Natalie caress her pregnant belly and suddenly remembered something. Edward seemed to have forgotten that he had fertility problems due to a low sperm count. I had never brought it up because I was afraid of embarrassing him. How could he have forgotten it himself?I picked up the bowl of soup I had diluted with toilet water and handed it to him. "It's all cooled down now. I kept it cool so that it wouldn't burn you, and I made it slightly diluted since the light flavor is better for healing your injuries."I stood up with satisfaction once Edward finished drinking it.Edward made a point to remind me before I left. "Larry is coming to Aveston to unwind, so make sure to spend some time with him, Maddie."I stayed behind instead of leaving, waiting quietly outside the hospital ward."Get me to the bathroom now! Hurry up!""Ouch! Don't touch my arm or leg! They're still broken!""That hurts!"I could hear the nurse, who was doing her rounds, gagging. "You can't just u

Chapter 5
When I heard the elevator start up, I knew that Victor and Mary were on their way back. I stepped into the stairwell and hid myself.Victor laughed excitedly. "Do you hear that? Larry's making so much noise! That bitch must be going through pure hell right now! She managed to survive the first two attempts, but she's definitely dying today!"Mary was fuming too. "I put up with that bitch for four years. If it weren't for her parents setting Edward up for life, I would've straightened her out on day one. "She wouldn't do any of the wedding traditions—wouldn't toast to us or join in on any of the wedding games. She just acted like she was too good for it!"I clutched my chest, trying desperately to hold back the rage burning inside me. Mary's version of wedding traditions wasn't just a little harmless teasing. She was mentioning the kind of hazing that went on at weddings that had actually made the news—stripping the bride down and groping the bridesmaids. Why should I have to go

Chapter 6
Upon hearing that, the neighbor exclaimed, "Have you lost your mind? We're only doing this for your own good!"In the end, no matter how loudly Victor and Mary protested, the police sirens still sounded downstairs. "What happened here? Who's the screaming man inside? Why is there such a strong smell of blood?""It's no one you need to worry about! It's a family matter that we can take care of ourselves!"Hearing the police officers' voices outside, Edward thought help had finally arrived. "Help! Please let the police come inside! Larry is hurting me! I'm so sorry, Maddie! Please save me!"Victor and Mary refused to believe it, convinced it was just Edward's way of throwing off suspicion. They were hell-bent on making sure that I was dead, so they did everything they could to block the police officers."We lost the keys! You'd better not break down our door. Otherwise, we'll file a complaint against all of you! How dare you push me! Is this how the police treat civilians now? How o

Mary grabbed my hand and said through gritted teeth, "Larry is considered mentally ill."I held my chest, barely hiding my delight. "If a mentally ill person kills someone, they can't be punished like a normal criminal. I'm quite grateful that I wasn't the victim! Otherwise, no one would have cared about my injustice."Mary flew into a rage and bellowed, "How can you be so heartless? Edward is your husband!"I shrugged like I couldn't care less. "In times of trouble, even married couples look out for themselves."I leaned down slightly to meet Mary's gaze. "Is it possible that this is karma for something Edward has done, Mom? He's been injured three times recently, after all. Why does it keep happening to him, Mom?"Mary's eyes widened slightly in shock.Just then, the ambulance pulled up, and the police officers loaded the stark-naked Edward onto the stretcher. The paramedic sighed heavily and said, "He's severely injured below the belt. He's very likely going to be rendered st

Edward's expression hardened the moment he heard the Lawsons' demands, as if he knew that meeting them would cost him everything he had.I pulled up a chair and sat down with a smile. "They might be asking for a lot, but they did lose Larry. Isn't it just money at the end of the day? How could it ever compare to a human life?"Larry's parents nodded in agreement. "You're absolutely right, Maddie. You're the only kind one here, unlike the rest of the Zucker family, who are all rotten to the core."I was indeed a kind person. I was the one who told them exactly how much money Edward had, after all.Edward seemed completely drained of all spirit once the Lawsons' demands were met. He just lay there on the bed in complete silence, staring blankly at the ceiling. He burst into a wild, hysterical laugh once he spotted me, the one who had dropped by to enjoy his misery."You've ruined me and left me with nothing, but I will get my revenge. It's a fight to the death between us now. I wo

Victor clutched his chest as he struggled to breathe, refusing to believe what he had just heard. "I'll never be able to live this down! Our family bloodline actually ends with Edward!"He pointed at Natalie and bellowed, "You shameless slut! What did Edward ever do to deserve this?"Mary's eyes were completely bloodshot as she slapped Natalie hard across the face. "That baby isn't even Edward's! How dare you take all the supplements I gave you! You'd better return them all to me!"Natalie grabbed Mary by the collar and returned the slap with even more force. "I only put up with you because Edward gave me money. I won't tolerate you anymore since he's completely ruined now!"Victor tried to kick her, but she kicked him instead. "Your useless son wasted years of my youth, so you're also to blame for how badly you raised him."Natalie gave Victor and Mary a beating. Once she was satisfied, she warned them, "I know all of your son's little schemes, which means you two are just going

Chapter 10
Victor and Mary returned home once they had spent all their money on Edward's medical bills, only to find that the apartment had already been sold. They finally set aside their pride and called me, pleading with me to have mercy on Edward. "Edward may have mistreated you before, but after three years of marriage, your history together should outweigh the hurt he caused. "We've seen what kind of person Natalie really is now, so we know you're the one Edward should have treasured."I remained silent for a while as I listened. I had no idea what I had done to make them think I was so forgiving. I had always been the kind of person who held a grudge and got even.Mary was still trying to talk me into it when I got to the hospital. "You two are meant to be together. Edward has learned his lesson, so just patch things up already and go back to being happy together again, Maddie."I scoffed. "You're being utterly delusional—even daydreams are supposed to be somewhat realistic. I have
