Emily and Jenny

Something wasn't sitting quite right with me. I remember turning up at the ball, but why am I back here? I thought to myself.

I was standing in my room in front of my full-length mirror after the pamper session at the spa and salon. Running my hands over the red satin fabric before hearing my parents calling me from downstairs.

Sighing, I took one more look at myself, grabbed my shawl and made my way downstairs.

"You look like an angel, honey," cooed my mum as I walked down the stairs, holding onto the railing so that I didn't fall flat on my face.

"You will be fighting them off with a stick tonight." Both of my parents have huge smiles on their faces which was kind of freaking me out.

'Knock, knock, knock'

"The car is here, ladies. It's time to go." my dad said as he ushered us out of the door.

I am so nervous and can feel butterflies in my stomach. "Everything will be fine," said a voice in my head, making me sit up straight.

Jenny got into the car and sat next to me. As soon as the door was closed, she sensed that something was off with me. "What's wrong, you look amazing by the way, but I can sense that something is not quite right."

Looking at the floor in embarrassment, I quietly said "I have been hearing voices in my head since the salon, but don't know where they are coming from and I'm starting to believe that I am going crazy."

Jenny giggled and held my hand, "Oh sweetie, that is your wolf talking to you. Mine started to talk to me after you dropped me off. I thought I was going mad, so I spoke to mum about it."

This made me feel a little more at ease. I sat and closed my eyes and to try and communicate with my wolf, "Hi Emily, my name is Prim. Everything will be good tonight, you will see. Oh, I have also met my sister Ruby," she said with a big grin on her face.

I turned to look at Jenny, "Prim said she has met her sister Ruby?" Jenny smiled, "I am glad they feel the bond that we share and think of themselves as sisters like we do."

This made me feel more at ease and I visibly relaxed for the remainder of the short drive to the pack house.

Outside the pack house, we all stood with our families facing Alpha Declan and Luna Olivia who stood on the steps. He announced the order in which we were to enter the ballroom. Mated pack members and members from surrounding packs entered first, followed by the older unmated wolves, followed by us newbies.

As soon as our parents left us, Jenny and I found each other and watched as everyone else went into the ballroom. Holding my hand with a squeeze, Jenny looked me in the eye and said, "no matter what, we will have each other." I gave her a smile back in the hopes that she was right.

We started walking up the steps to the pack house and it was not long before we heard 'Mate!' echoing around the room. The newly found mates walked to each other and cleared the ballroom floor. That left twelve of us without a mate.

Looking around the room, I caught the sad look on my parent's faces and sighed, feeling like a failure when the doors burst open, and a group of warriors walked in. These warriors weren't from our pack, they were from the royal pack. Counting the number that walked in and thinking positively, each one will receive a mate, leaving one of us without one. I started to shake with anxiety and Jenny could feel it. "Breathe, it will all be fine." she tried to reassure me.

'Mate! Mate! Mate!' chorused around me. "Mate!" came a voice next to me. Oh my Goddess, no. Jenny's mate was the head warrior of the royal pack. I was so happy for her but a little upset as it meant that she would be leaving me this evening.

I hadn't noticed Luna Olivia walking towards me until I felt her arm round my shoulders, "It's OK dear, maybe they couldn't make it tonight and could possibly visit the pack sometime soon." Nodding my head, I began to accept that I was mate less until I picked up the most delicious scent of chocolate and strawberries. My wolf wagged her tail and howled with joy, "Mate! Mate is here."

I looked around the room again but there was no one new there. Then the door slammed open with a loud roar "MATE!"

'OMG. It can't be, can it?' I thought to myself. 'My mate is the Alpha King' and that is when I lost consciousness.

Jenny

I can't believe I found my mate. A strong mate who will protect me. Not just a warrior but the head warrior of the royal pack.

As I basked in my happiness, I noticed in the corner of my eye that Emily was the only person standing on the far side of the room.

OMG no, Emily. I am so sorry I mouthed to her. She just gave me a sad little smile as she started to walk away with our Luna before a loud growl was heard from the main doors.

Everyone gasped. No way! The Alpha King was there, and it looked like he was Emily's mate. A little bit jealous but happy for my friend none the less.

I could see her swaying and I let go of my mate's hand and started running to her before she landed on the floor.
