Eloise’s POV:
“I don’t want to be Alpha.”
There. I said it. My father freezes instantly, his one hand up in mid-air as he had been keeping me up to teach me all about the basics and whatnot on becoming his pack’s Alpha. “I beg your pardon?” He raises an eyebrow. “For the last time, Dad. Can’t I enjoy my youth far away from here before you hand me over the title?” I sigh, sitting down on his fancy leather couch. I folded my arms across my chest. “I want to travel, see the world, maybe even go to university. Dad, you know I always wanted to be a teacher.” I hear Dad sigh, heavy footsteps coming to me before the couch dips as he takes a seat beside me. “I know that. You told me a thousand times.” He chuckles. I pout. “But we’re talking about the pack.” He says. “Of course. More important than your own daughter.” I mumble. I know I was being a bitch. Yet, sometimes I just wanted my father to listen. My father, Alpha Viktor Sage, is the present Alpha of Heaven Moon Pack. I’m the only daughter, which means I’m the only heir to take up the position when he retires. To be honest, I can’t believe he’s even thought of retiring. I mean look at him. The man hasn’t aged a day after at least twenty-five. He’s perfectly fit, healthy, and capable of running the pack for at least a year. He hasn’t even hit forty yet. “Give me a year, Dad. That’s all I’m asking.” All my life, my father has drilled the importance of my Alpha blood deep into my head. Let’s say since I was around five. He would take me to his meetings, talk to me about some private pack matters that did not matter to me at the age of six. I was what they call, normal. Normal for wanting to play around and not bother myself constantly with matters of the pack. I thank Goddess for my mom who knocked some sense into my father for attempting to train me when I was five. Imagine picking up an axe or a knife at that age and trying not to be afraid when your opponent is the hulk. My father always said that someday, the people of this pack will respect me, and so will he. But I made up my mind. I want to go abroad for at least a year first before taking up the alpha position. So, here I am, trying to convince my Dad, the great ol’ mighty Alpha, to hold his horses until I return. “If you think about it, you can also benefit a lot from—" “Fine.” He cuts me off. “Ah, I knew you’d say that. So I prepared this sp—wait, what?” “I said fine. I can wait.” My father says. My eyes go wide and I squeal my excitement. I knew then there’s only one thing left to do. I hugged my Dad, who chuckled before hugging me back. “Oh, by the way,” I jumped back and Dad gives me a ‘what now?’ look. “Since I’m basically eighteen now, can I go to the party with Dex?” His brows scrunch hearing his name. He never liked Dex from the beginning, I could never understand why. Hell, I could never understand men and their games of pride and prejudice. “Please, please, please, pleeaaaassseeeeee?” I clasp my hands together, pout, and give him the big, round, puppy eyes he used to give into. I call it the ‘Puppy Move’. I mentally chuckle to myself when I hear him sigh. “Alright. Just because you’re turning eighteen at midnight.” He grumbles. “Yes!” I scream and do a victory dance in front of him before I realize what I’m doing. My father looks at me, appalled, making me freeze on the last step and clear my throat. I hug him for the last time, kissing him in the cheek. I could hear his sigh turn into a chuckle as I leave his office and dash towards my room to change. It’s my 18th birthday coming up. All I know is I’m going to have a blast.Dex met me at the club that night. My father didn’t want him parading his mustang around the house, taking him as an arrogant douche who like to wave his money around. I shake my head, trying to get rid of negative thoughts before my birthday. My father finally said yes to my proposal. It’s a miracle he even let me go to the club. So, I plan to make the most of it.
“Hey,” Dex walks up to me in his party clothes. I rolled my eyes at his choice of clothing. Did he have to pick a jacket covered in pecks of sparkling diamonds?
“Hey to you, too.” I scrunched my face. “What? You don’t like my panache?” He smirks, and I roll my eyes. “Whatever.” His eyes scan me head to toe. “You look hot.” “Thanks.” I shrug, locking arms with his as we enter the club. The club was buzzing with the pounding beat of the music, making me bob my head, feeling the vibes. Dex got me something to drink while I hit the dance floor without him, swaying my hips and rocking my body to the music.
I could feel several eyes pinned on me but I didn’t care. This was my night. I’m going to enjoy it as much as I can. I got a few drinks in me and my feet stumbled lightly, feeling a little tipsy. “Hi,” I swivel my hips around, feeling a hard chest and a dick lingering way closer to my ass than I would like. “Yes?” I smirk up at a tall, blonde man, yet slightly shorter than Dex by an inch. His pale blue eyes look me up and down even as I continue to dance. I smirk. He’s handsome, too, just not my type. “Can I just say, in behalf of every man here, that you’re absolutely gorgeous?” I roll my eyes, waving him off. I don’t have plans on meeting a man tonight. I just wanted to get wasted and go home. The blonde bloke still won’t stop talking to me. Ryker, he kept saying his name was. It’s starting to get annoying so I squeezed my way out of the dance floor to look for Dex when he grabbed my wrist. “Let go,” I growl. “Come on, don’t act like you don’t want me.” He smirks and I scrunch my face up in disgust. “Go away.” Yet he laughs and tugs on my wrist, everyone around me oblivious to what he was doing. I was going to look for Dex. He was just here before this Ryker guy showed up. “F*ck off.” Suddenly, a dark and dominating aura swooshed behind me. The air instantly fell into dead silence, although the music went on. Slowly, I turn around, and I gasp in sheer horror as I stare at the man with jet black hair, broad shoulders, and a frame that towered over me. My round eyes gawked at the man, seeing as this is not just any Alpha but Alpha Kaden Kyson of the Blood Walkers Pack. My father’s biggest archenemy and he’s hell bent on taking him down.Yet, my wolf sniffs the air. Her ears perking up in attention.
Mate!
Eloise’s POV: I groan and will my body to move, only to find moving so much more difficult when you spent the last night heavily drunk. And with who I can’t even remember. Hell, I can’t even remember at all what had transpired last night and why am I in this room? Did I crawl my ass back to bed only this isn’t my bed. My bed is fuchsia in color and is covered with fur, yet why am I seeing cool gray and with a lot of red stains, I might add. Groaning, I force my body to sit up, rubbing my eyes. Hangover’s a bitch, that much I could say. “Good morning, mate.” I jump and yelp, the shock of a deep, gravelly voice sending me back and I fall flat on my ass to the bloody carpeted floor. What the— I quickly snatch the duvet up when my eyes drop on my naked breasts. Turns out they’re not the only ones naked because so is my cutely shaved vajayjay. Getting up, I wince, my mouth shaping into a small ‘o’, realizing what I had done. What he had done. “What are you doing here?!” I all but s
Eloise’s POV:He growls menacingly, cutting me off. A smirk plays on my lips.So he is afraid of something. The feared, most despicable Alpha is afraid of rejection.I continue, “reject you, Alpha Kaden Kyson of the Blood Hounds Pack.” Leaving the hotel, I am carrying my heels with one hand and the other my purse and phone. Glancing around, I furrow my brows when I realize I am not in my father’s territory. I feel eyes glaring daggers at me from somewhere above, and I look up, only to make eye contact with the same asshole I rejected. His strange onyx eyes glinted mischievously as he stared down at me.“You will be back, mate.” I remember him say calmly and confidently after he’d pinned me on his bed, planting kisses everywhere on my skin before I shoved him off. The truth is, I was shocked with the way my body reacted to his touch. Inexplicable sparks danced across my skin, erupting from all the places he had touched. “Admit it. You cannot escape the bond,” he purred. I shake away
Eloise’s POVI rejected him because he’s an asshole who stole my virginity and my innocence. So why the hell is he here?“Dad?” I scrunch my brows, watching Alpha Kaden walk in. His head nearly hitting the door with how tall he was. He towered over us, including my father.I whip to him. “What is this?”“This,” my Dad gestured both of us to sit. He continued, “Is a negotiation.” I shake my head in refusal.“Alpha Viktor,” Kaden spoke, yet I kept my eyes fixed on my father.“Thank you for the invitation.” “You know what this means,” My father says, repeating the same words Kaden said in the phone with him. My brows furrowed tighter. Clearly, I am the only one left out.“Can you please tell me what is happening?” I ask, frustrated that my Dad will leave me out such important information that would have to require him to invite his biggest rival, Alpha Kaden, into our home.My father gestures for us to sit. Kaden takes his, and I huff before walking over the couch and plopping my ass
Eloise’s POV:I jump, whipping around when the towel is snatched off my hand.“Kaden!” I growl at him, but he smirks at me, his eyes trailing slowly down my naked body still dripping wet.“Get out!” I snarl, my eyes darting to the other towels before he stepped into my line of vision. “Let me get one thing clear, mate,” he growled the last part as if to intimidate me, but I glared at him head-on.His brow raise. Leaning in, he breathes in my scent and growls.“You will respect the mate bond, it is sacred.” I scoff at his words. “Did my father sent you in here to change my mind? Well, bold move mister, but it is so not working,” I roll my eyes at him and shove him away, meaning to move towards my bathroom closet to get a damn towel because I’m bloody cold when he drags me right back in the same position. What the hell is his problem? “I am your mate,” he snarls.“So? I rejected you.” I say a-matter-of-factly, loving the way his lip twitched in his anger with my defiance.“And I hav
Eloise’s POV:My father has been in and out of the house this week. He doesn’t tell me but I know he’s been out meeting Alpha Kaden, negotiating pack lands and pack assets. I could tell easily when he moves past me. One whiff of his scent and my wolf perks up in attention, salivating and wagging her tail for her mate. She has been howling insufferably in my ears, forming a pounding headache for the last hour.‘Ok, that’s enough,’ I finally snap.‘This is all your fault,’ ‘How is it mine?’ I ask, appalled my own wolf would blame me for something I did. Not that this is the first, still.‘Did you have to be a bitch and reject our mate?’ she snarls. I roll my eyes. ‘And do you really have to be such a drama queen?’ ‘At least I had the brain to think through things, before randomly blurting out a rejection that could well damage our life!’ ‘Don’t tell me you’re still sulking over that. You know who he is. A guy like that? Nothing good will ever happen with us being mated to someone li
Eloise’s POV:Everything that happened afterwards slipped by in a haze. We were both drinking, and I don’t remember half of the Arcane movie he made me watch before I passed out. It was something about family members who’ve lost their way before they found each other again, and that’s when he lost me.Hmm. Strange, I remember talking to Dex about Alpha Kaden and my father’s plans on marrying me off to him for some alliance. When I came to, it was dark outside, and I was already in Dex’s car’s passenger seat. “Wakey wakey sissy,” I hear Dex whisper into my ear. The smell of his perfume brought me back to my senses.“Will you stop calling me that?” I snap at a surprised-looking Dexter leaning his arm on the wheel. He was in the same white fit shirt and shorts when I came to his apartment.“God, I’m sorry, what time is it?” I groan, touching my temple and rubbing small circles to soothe it. I close my eyes. I have this worst headache ever. My head is pounding and for some reason, my bo
Eloise’s POV:ONE WEEK LATERDad and I were watching TV while my Mom cooked us dinner. We watched a new drama series and now we’re debating on whether the lead character was getting a comeback. I thought otherwise. I was just about to throw in my argument when the news flash turned on. I wasn’t interested and was ready for my rebuttal.“So, I was thinking—” My father points his finger and shushes me.“Be quiet, Elle. It’s about our pack,” he mumbles without even looking at me and his eyes plastered on the screen.I roll my eyes and get up, about to move towards the kitchen to help my Mom when I hear my name called out from the same news my dad was watching.Slowly, I moved back towards the living room. My body tenses as I feel the intense, deathly aura oozing off from no other than my alpha father. I gulp, finally stepping back into the living room where I see him now standing watching the news. His wolf’s fur was jutting out of his skin, his eyes flickering bright gold as he fought
Alpha Kaden’s POV:My eyes are glued to the video clip on the screen my beta, Colton, handed over to me an hour ago. One hour. One fucking hour had passed but I still couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. My whole body trembled with rage, and I’m surprised I was able to hold it in even for an hour of rewatching the clip over and over. It’s her. The woman on the same video clip I kept rewatching being stroked by another man is my own f*cking mate. Naked from head to toe, her mouth opens and closes in between moans, her face contorting in pain. I have seen women who liked mixing pain and pleasure in bed. Apparently, she’s one of them.“What are you going to do?” My beta Colton asks. I deadpan to him. My face devoid of emotion. Colton leans against the wall of my office, his arms folded across his chest with a deep smirk on his face. He finds it amusing that a woman, my own mate no less, would actually cheat on the me. Never in my long line of dating women had any one of them actually we
Eloise’s POVI couldn’t shake the unease that settled in my chest after Caleb left. His words had lingered, taunting me with the idea of an easy solution, of a chance to heal my mother once and for all. But nothing in this world was ever that simple. Nothing worth having came without a cost.Kaden and I had barely exchanged words after Caleb’s visit, the silence between us thick and uncomfortable. He’d been distant, his brooding gaze locked on the horizon, his jaw tight like he was still fighting some inner battle I didn’t understand.I didn’t want to understand it. Not right now.My mother lay still in the room behind us, her fragile form covered by blankets, her breathing shallow but steady. It was progress, but I couldn’t allow myself to be fooled. Selene had warned me: my mother wasn’t out of danger yet. The fight inside her was far from over. The soft rustle of a door opening caught my attention, and I turned to see the young witch, Selene, stepping into the room. Her presence wa
Eloise’s POVThe air inside the safehouse felt thick, like the calm before a storm. After the chaos of the healing ritual, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. My mother was stable, but not whole. Selene’s warning lingered in the back of my mind: she wasn’t cured. Well, not yet.Kaden’s hand rested lightly on my shoulder as we walked down the narrow hall. His presence was a comfort, but there was a tension in the air that neither of us could shake.“We should talk,” Kaden said, his voice soft but insistent.I glanced up at him, trying to read his expression. “About what?”He hesitated for a moment, as if weighing his words. “About what happens next.”“What happens next is simple,” I said, keeping my voice steady despite the knot tightening in my stomach. “We protect my mother. We figure out how to heal her completely.”His jaw tightened. “And what about Caleb?”I froze.I had almost forgotten about him in the whirlwind of events. Almost.“Caleb?” I repeated, my voice
Eloise’s POV:The air in the room was thick with the weight of what had just happened. My mother’s body lay motionless on the floor, her breathing steady but slow. I could feel her pulse, the faint but undeniable rhythm of life coursing through her veins. But it wasn’t enough. She wasn’t healed. Not yet.I stood at her side, my blood still pulsing in my veins where she had fed. The pain from the bite had faded, but there was an ache deep inside me. One I couldn’t shake. The power from Selene’s spell still hummed in my bones, mingling with my own energy, threading through the bond I shared with my mother. But I wasn’t sure if it was enough.Kaden was standing near the door, his arms crossed, his eyes fixed on me. He hadn’t spoken much since we brought my mother here, but I could feel his gaze on me, like a weight pressing against my skin.“You did what you had to,” he said, his voice low, measured.I didn’t look at him. I couldn’t. Not yet. “I did what I had to,” I repeated, though the
162Eloise’s POVThe drive to the safehouse was silent. Not from lack of words, but the weight of too many.My mother sat shackled in the backseat, her eyes hollow but watching. She didn’t speak, didn’t ask where we were taking her. She just stared. Like she already knew... It was either salvation or damnation waited at the end of the road.I glanced at her, my chest aching. She was once the fiercest she-wolf I knew. My idol. My protector. Now, she was gaunt, her skin too pale, her veins shadowing like black ink beneath the surface. The only thing that remained the same were her eyes.Haunted. But still hers.Kaden’s hand brushed mine on the console. “We’re almost there.”I nodded but said nothing. My gaze drifted to the horizon as trees thickened and the gravel road narrowed into a clearing I barely recognized. The safehouse was hidden deep in neutral land and borderless, claimed by no pack. The kind of place that only existed on whispered maps and old bloodlines. Its magic pulsed th
Eloise's POV:I didn’t flinch when she lunged at me. Maybe I should have, maybe I should have been scared out of my mind, but all I felt was a surge of determination. This was my mother. This was the woman who held me when I was a child, the woman who sang me to sleep and fought for me in ways no one else ever could. I wouldn’t lose her. Not now. Not ever. But as her body collided with mine, the raw power of her vampire strength almost knocked the wind from me. She was faster than I’d remembered, her movements sharp and deadly, her eyes glowing with a hunger I had never seen before. Her fangs were inches from my throat when Kaden moved in, quick as a flash, and grabbed her by the shoulders, pulling her back with a force I knew she wouldn’t have been able to fight. Not against him. He had the strength of an alpha on his side.“Mum!” I shouted, voice trembling, but I stood firm. The vampire hissed, snapping her fangs at him, but Kaden held her back with ease. He was always the protector
160Eloise's POV:The moment the door opened, I was hit with the stale, oppressive air of the basement. It was as if the darkness had been festering for years, and every inch of the room held the weight of secrets and regrets I’d buried for far too long.My heart slammed against my ribs as I stepped inside, the cold stone beneath my boots sending a shiver through me. I knew Kaden was right behind me, his presence a silent reminder that I wasn’t doing this alone. Not anymore. But even with him there, I couldn’t shake the weight of the task ahead of me.My mother had become something I barely recognized. The last time I saw her, before the transformation, before the curse took over, she was strong, powerful, a force to be reckoned with. Now, she was little more than a shadow. The woman I remembered had all but disappeared, swallowed up by the monster she’d become.I swallowed the lump in my throat as my eyes adjusted to the dim light. And there she was, in the farthest corner of the roo
159Eloise's POV:We took a quick shower together and went outside.Afterwards, Kaden kept giving me the 'look' as I got to get dressed. Apparently, he can't get his hands off me. Even in the shower, he rubbed soap all over my body. There wasn't an inch of me he did not touch, and he might or might not have slipped a finger or two deep inside my wet cunt.I must say, I loved it. I wanted to shower like that every time, until I have no clue as to whether the wetness I feel pooling in my core was because of the water, or the product of my arousal.Suddenly, I felt a large hand grab ahold of my panties, pushing it to the side just before he thrust a finger in. There was no warning, and sure enough, my panties are soaked.I squeal, "Kaden!" I slap his arm with a mock glare, cheeks flushed and still burning from the memory of his fingers teasing me beneath my panties just minutes ago. “You’re insatiable.”Kaden smirks, eyes gleaming with no hint of remorse. “Only for you.”I roll my eye
Eloise's POV:Shortly after I came, Kaden puts a few more thrusts before a long, guttural groan and a moan leaves his throat altogether. The sound music to my ears. I never would have thought a man's moan could be so damn sexy. I bite my lip, letting my eyes trail from his perfect abs, up to his clenched jaw as he rode the waves of his orgasm.I smile, wrapping my arm around his neck and pulling him closer until he's breathing in my neck."That was..." I began, a chuckle leaving my lips at the last word."Amazing?" Kaden speaks, a smile in his rough voice.I chuckle, and nod. "I was going to say breathtaking but," I pause, gasping for breath as I was still deep in the aftermaths of his intense thrusts, "amazing works too," He pulls back a little and we lock eyes. His gaze burns with an intensity that keeps me in place. But when the words leave his mouth, my heart jumps a little."I love you, El." He whispers, but that does not weaken the power behind his voice, or the promise in his
Eloise's POV: "So you do care about him, like a lot," Ever since Kaden left through the door, Adeline had been throwing the words at my face while I just take it. I couldn't really disagree with her. When I saw that poison, fear creeped into my veins. It turns out, I can't bear the thought of losing him to something as fragile as that, or anything at all. "So, you do love him? Come on, admit it." She pushed, and I sighed. "Whatever you say, Ade." I shrug. Kaden set out to check the omegas working in the kitchen. Although he promised me I can stay in my room and prepare for tonight, I feel a little uneasy. Tonight, I am going to my father's house and get her to come with me and Mum. I have to convince him in some way. But knowing dad, once he had his mind set onto one thing, there will be no changing that. But I hope when it comes to Mum and his own safety, he would give and allow me to help them. Getting up on my feet, I slip out of my clothes and head into the shower. Ten m
