Life is all about change. But is it really change? Or is it just uncertainties? If change is so good for us, then why our instinct is to fear change? Is change always good? Who said it is always good?
“Caleb!”, one of his friends called him. Caleb looked at me with questioning eyes. More like eyes filled with uncertainty! I nodded slowly and he finally let me go. A void! That is what I felt. With no arms holding me safely in their warm embrace, I felt scared. I felt being pulled into a dark void.
I watched his every move. I could feel the sweat drip down from the side of my face and pause at my chin for a second or two before falling and vanishing into oblivion. I was nervous. My eyes were focused on his face, trying to read his expressions and find the answer my selfish self was asking again and again. At this very moment, I realised, how selfish humans can be. There was a dead body found and my mind was still hoping, it shouldn’t be my friend to save me from all the guilt.
He looked at the body and his eyes were difficult to read. He looked at me and for a few seconds, we both just looked at each other. Then he asked one of his friends to pick the body and take it to his house. And that is the moment, it hit me that- Arya is dead!
I could feel the whole world crumble down as my body started moving on its own accord. In a few seconds, I was not only up but I ran into the forest. I couldn’t hear him call my name, I didn’t know if anyone was following me, I just kept running.
My mind wandered aimlessly just like my body. How could this happen? Just one night and everything changed? I attend a party, and my friend gets killed? What sort of bad luck is this?
Suddenly, owing to my clumsy self, I tripped on nothing and fell down.
“Are you okay?”, a very scared Caleb asked trying to catch his breath. I didn’t reply. I just sat there and burst into tears.
“Sh..sh…sh.”, Caleb held me close to him. I cried hugging him.
“It is my fault. Right?”, I asked between my crying.
“Why would you think that?”, he asked.
“She came to find me? She got lost and died? didn’t she?”, I asked sobbing.
“No! who said that? She came back to the mansion after looking for you. When Arya and Anna couldn’t find you that is when I left. It is not your fault.”, he answered.
I looked at him trying to decipher if his words were true or not. All I could see was honesty.
“But then what was she doing out here?”, I asked.
“We will try and find out about it.”, he said.
“We should call the cops.”, I suggested, and he shook his head without even considering my suggestion.
“But why? They are professionals and they will investigate.”, I defended my suggestion.
“No, we cannot contact them.”, he answered and now his arms were not around me anymore.
“But why?”, I stood up screaming at him. he looked at me but didn’t answer.
“Tell her to be Alpha. Why?”, a voice interrupted us.
I turned around and saw a man standing near the tree next to us. He was in just shorts and a plain white t-shirt. His face had a scar that run from his forehead, across his cheeks till his chin.
“Staring at people is a bad habit, Luna!”, he smirked making me look down.
“What are you doing here?”, Caleb asked pulling me behind him. I could see his face was tense and he was boiling with anger.
“What am I doing here? What are you doing here? Trespassing?”, he snickered.
Caleb looked around and his body became a little stiffer with all the tension in the air.
“We will send you a formal apology.”, Caleb said.
“You don’t tell me what I want as a form of apology. I will tell you. Your life is precious after all.”, the strange man said.
“What do you want?”, Caleb spat in anger.
The man looked around and stepped forward. He was looking around and then his eyes landed on me. I took a step back as his eyes checked me out.
“Don’t you dare!”, Caleb warned taking a step forward.
“Oh no! How can I? She is your mate. I know the laws and I am not that heartless.”, he answered. Mate? Laws? I couldn’t get a word of their conversation.
“I don’t have time. Tell me what you need?”, Caleb said.
“I want a reveal.”, he demanded.
“A reveal?”, Caleb asked all confused.
“I have heard your dear human mate doesn’t know about your little secret. What about a reveal?”, he snickered again making me shiver. What secret? The way he said human made me feel like the odd one out. We are all humans. Is he paranoid?
“You know how this wish will affect our relations. Don’t you?”, Caleb threatened.
“Is this what your dad taught you? First, enter the territory of another alpha and then not apologise!”, the man yelled making me flinch.
“Oh, dear! Did I scare you?”, the man asked noticing me flinching.
“Stay away!”, Caleb yelled and pulled me a little closer. The moment he raised his voice we were surrounded by at least a dozen wolves! What is wrong with these people? Why are they keeping wolves as pets? Where are all the dogs and cats?
“You know what will happen if you pull out an act like this?”, Caleb’s threats were getting less serious for me too.
“Can we not just call your pet wolves and then run?”, I whispered.
“Pet wolves?”, the man laughed. “She thinks they are pet wolves?”, he asked Caleb amused. I felt embarrassed but I had no idea about what?
I took a step back and stumbled upon a rock and fell. The moment I hit the ground two wolves pounced and kept their paws on my hands. I was scared. One of them hovered over my face and sniffed. But it was not the wolves that scared me, it was the fact that Caleb pulled the wolves off me with bare hands.
The moment the wolves landed near the tree far from me, we were attacked. I panicked and backed off into the tree behind me, staying away from all the mayhem.
I watched Caleb fight and the man smirked.
“That’s it!”, Caleb said and then removed his shirt. I watched him undress. What exactly is he doing? The wolves seemed as confused as me. No maybe a little less confused. I could see his fine defined abs and the muscles flexing as he removed his clothes. Our eyes met for a brief moment, and I expected him to smirk, but his eyes held fear. He was scared!
“You want to fight! I will fight!”, he screamed and ran and jumped on the wolves.
“What the hell!”, I said. I watched as Caleb turned into a wolf? A wolf! I watched as he fought eight wolves at once, tearing them and wounding them. he didn’t kill them, but they were hurt enough to not attack again.
“You see, they are no pets. This is my pack.”, the man stood by my side and spoke.
“W-what are they?”, I stuttered still not believing what I saw.
“Werewolves.”, he answered. That’s it! I stood up and without looking back ran in the direction we came from.
What exactly is wrong with my life? I just saw a mythical creature come alive. A werewolf? Caleb is a werewolf? Who else is a werewolf? Aiden? Ethan? Anna? Was Arya also a werewolf? Was she killed by one? As these questions haunted me, I kept running saving myself from getting sucked into all this supernatural chaos.
Hurt, a word we often feel but seldom use. Is it okay? To not talk about it and let it burn your heart down, wear out your body and still put on a smile while you are surrounded by those who hurt you. Is revenge an answer? Hurting back and watching them scream and beg for mercy. To be like them, to be like Leon. Will that ever be the answer? “What are you scribbling?”, Ethan walked outside the gates and asked. “Nothing.”, I closed my diary and wiped my tears with the sleeve of my t-shirt. “Show me!”, he said and snatched the diary out of my hands. “There was a time when I was sure, you don’t exist. And even if you do walk this earth, Just a speck of dust in this storm, How am I supposed to even find you? And then rushed in these thoughts, Are you looking for me with all you got? Or have you already given up and settled with the next best thing you saw? Do you love her like you were meant to love me? Or are you also staring out of the window, And unknowingly admiring the sa
One thing I learned about life at an early age was, having no expectations is tough but having expectations is deadly. Expectations as simple as a happy life and a live-breathing family are also enough to break you.Staring at the water in front of me, I was immersed in my own thoughts and the ripples in the lake made me wonder, how good it might feel if there were no feelings at all. To live an expectation-free life and also a life free of this constant anxiety asking the same question again and again- what does the future hone on hold for us?“What are you doing here?”, Ethan walked out of the building gates and took a seat beside me.“Did you talk to Mr. Collins?”, I asked.“Yes, they will move my stuff after dinner.”, he replied.“That’s good then. You are the only member of the pack I can trust.”, I smiled at him.“Did you meet all the other people sharing the apartment?”, Ethan asked.“I guess, I know Caleb, obviously, and I just met Lily the new friend he has made, and then it’
Destiny has an annoying habit of poking her nose everywhere. And it felt like she was playing with my life like it was some sort of a kid’s board game- all for entertainment. Having Caleb in town was not enough of a surprise that now he was my roommate.“You can go in now!”, Headmaster Collin’s secretary said.“Thank you!”, I barged into the room.Gothic! That is what that room screamed. Who has a gothic aesthetic for their office? Paintings from all supernatural movies covered one side of the wall. There was a huge portrait of someone who was almost the exact replica of Mr. Collins but the background had a fence, a creepy full moon, and bats. I could guess maybe it was his grandfather. The chairs were designed in the shapes of hands, fangs, and a wolf while I saw the man sitting on a castle. A chair that looked like a CASTLE!“Uhm…Hello again Headmaster Collins!”, I finally spoke up. This spooky interior was still very distracting.“Oh! Miss Hayley. Please sit down.”, he said pointin
Surprises are better than knowing what awaits us in the future. It was at this moment I realized how much I despised knowing it all. How much I hated that it was not just me who knew but my family did too.“You are leaving the territory this very moment young lady!”, there was a finality in pappy’s tone.“But pappy I cannot keep running.”, I somehow managed to answer despite knowing this will only make him angry.“Did I say your opinion is required here? I have already made arrangements and Oliver will go with you.”, he was about to walk away when grandma stopped him.“Don’t you think she is safer here with all of us?”, she asked looking at him with concern.“What do you mean? Oliver can take care of his sister like us all.”, pappy argued.“I don’t doubt Oliver’s skill, but Leon is powerful because he has no connection with his human. We cannot put Oliver in such grave danger even for his sister. Werewolves hunt in packs and only a pack can fight with them.”, grandma’s words made sens
Life is full of ups and downs, but when we are optimistic, we find a way to sail through the storms. But what if we are tired? What if we are stuck in that storm alone? What if there was no point in sailing through? What if we start enjoying battling the storm? It's been one whole year of me staying here at the hunter’s den as people call it. People here are my family now and my grandparents and my brother are now convinced that I can kill a werewolf if one attacks me. And maybe that is why I was allowed to come to the bar in the city tonight to celebrate Mason’s birthday.Neon lights were covering the floor, walls, and roof with a dark aura, and a mysterious stench in the air. I walked inside the bar with my friends laughing and having fun as if they were used to such places. Well, they were. I was the one on house arrest for 6 months. Then they allowed me to walk in the streets for one hour and today finally I got my old life back.“Are you excited about starting school next week?”,
I ran down the stairs ignoring pappy’s calls, as my main motive was to save myself from my brother’s tickle attack. Getting engulfed in his bear hug and then sprawling on the floor laughing like a maniac while also begging him to stop was not my idea of a first impression. People were already staring at us, but this stare could turn into a glare the moment my brother would initiate what he calls the attack of a tickle bean!“Stop you two!”, a voice interrupted our little game of chase. A feminine voice, I had missed all this while and a voice Oliver knew by heart.“Grandma!”, I squealed as I saw her lean, small figure standing beside a door. Her hair was grey with just two or three black strands standing out. Unlike other grandmas, she never had a hunched back, and her eyes were still perfectly fine which explains the absence of spectacles.“My darling!”, she replied with equal enthusiasm and hugged me tightly. I felt warm and safe and at home, a feeling I longed for.“Are you okay?”,
