Chapter 7

Author: Against the Flow
Vanessa didn't stay quiet either. She kept sending me taunting messages on WhatsApp. Photos, videos, all showing how John and Keith were at her beck and call, doing whatever she asked.

"Don't think running away will make them come crawling back to you. Playing hard to get? Please, I perfected that game a long time ago. You leaving was the best thing that ever happened. The title of the heiress of the Quinn family should've been mine from the start," she wrote.

I muted all notifications from them.

Two days before the wedding, Keith showed up at the Stone residence. He was shouting at the gate, demanding to see me.

I didn't want to cause trouble for Nathan or leave a bad impression on his family. So, I rushed outside, hoping to pull him away.

Instead, he plopped himself down right at the front door like he owned the place. "Willow, now that Nathan is awake and you two are about to get married, that means the Quinns and the Stones are basically family, right? Our parents are gone,

Instead, John stood there on the verge of tears, looking up at the stage. "Willow, I'm here to take you home. I know we made a lot of mistakes, but that's all in the past now. I've also looked into everything Vanessa did to you."So it turned out that clearing my name had never been all that difficult. Back then, I tried so hard to defend myself, but no one believed me.Maybe it wasn't that they couldn't see Vanessa's little schemes. Maybe they just didn't care how I felt. If letting her step on me made her happy, they were more than willing to turn a blind eye. Standing there, John looked noticeably worn out. His face was unshaven, shirt wrinkled, and a sharp smell of alcohol clung to him.Nathan frowned, clearly annoyed. "John, have you lost your mind? Today is my wedding day with Willow. What are you doing here?"Instead of backing down, John snapped, his voice tight with emotion. "I'm not the crazy one. You are! Willow was supposed to marry me. She is mine! I was the one who

I had come to realize that there was just no reasoning with them. When they noticed me heading back inside and discontinuing the conversation, the Stone family's bodyguards took the hint and stepped in, blocking the rest of them at the door. For the next two days, they kept trying to get in touch with me. But my stance never changed....The day before the wedding, Nathan went over the guest list with me one last time. "Are you sure you don't want to send an invite to the Quinns? He's the only family you have left in this world."Only family? I froze for a second. There was a time when Keith really was the only family I had. Back then, he used to swing by the store after work to bring me snacks and little things he thought I'd like. When John came over to see me, Keith would sulk and pout like a jealous brother."Don't think I don't know what you're trying to do. Willow's still young," Keith had once warned John. All of that eventually changed.I shook my head wistfully. Nath

I didn't dare accept the bracelet, but Nathan just smiled and urged me not to turn it down. "We're about to have our wedding anyway. Just take it. I won't feel right unless you do."Everyone burst into laughter. But my heart ached, and tears started to fall. This was my second time here, yet it already felt more like home than the place I had lived in for 22 years.Nathan had seen how I was mistreated, and he comforted me with genuine sympathy. "Don't cry. Only someone totally clueless would fall for that vile woman."He told everyone what he had witnessed when he went to the Quinn residence looking for me, along with everything I had shared with him on the way over.Nathan's grandmother, Mrs. Stone Senior, was so furious, she slammed her hand on the table. "I could understand arranging someone to take Willow's place in the marriage out of concern for Willow, but in just a few years, they let some outsider manipulate them into letting Willow be bullied like this? "It just shows

Mom said, "Even though Willow is engaged, I can see you two care deeply for each other. As long as you're faithful to one another, the Stone family will understand."But now, Keith and John stood on the opposite side of me, siding with a complete outsider like she actually mattered to them.I gave a faint smile and said, "No need for the act. As long as the three of you are happy, that's what matters most."Nathan burst out laughing at my words. They never imagined I could be this sharp-tongued.Back then, Keith cared about me, and John was in love with me. I kept up the image of someone with a peaceful, perfect life.Over time, their affection gradually shifted to Vanessa, and I kept my silence. I went along with everything, swallowing my pride and pain for years.Back then, I thought keeping quiet would make things better. And I thought eventually, they would realize how much I had endured and feel sorry for me. But I eventually learned that silence only made things worse. The

Nathan looked at me with those soft, bedroom eyes, full of unspoken emotion. I felt like I was under some kind of spell, completely dazed, as I placed my hand in his.Keith and John were both stunned. "Who the hell are you? You've got a lot of nerve talking like that. Do you even know where you are? You think you can just come here and act like this?"Vanessa sneered. "Isn't Willow already engaged? What is she doing holding hands with some random guy? That doesn't look very appropriate."That was when John noticed Nathan and I were holding hands, our fingers tightly intertwined.John shot me a bitter and jealous look. He mocked me for having no shame. "You're the heiress of the Quinn family, for God's sake. You shouldn't be messing around with trash like that!"Keith scoffed. "Looks like I've been way too soft on you since Mom and Dad died. Sneaking around behind our backs with some random guy? Seriously?"They kept piling on, one after another, like tearing me down somehow made
