Mina's POV

"Move out! Second wave, get to the border right now!" Vance yelled, his loud voice cutting over the terrified whispers in the main hall.

"Everyone to the armory!" a warrior shouted from the back.

"We do not have time for that! Just move!" Vance commanded.

"I am coming with you!" I shouted, grabbing my thick leather satchel off the healer table.

"Are you completely out of your mind?" Marra screamed, grabbing my wrist to stop me. "You are an unarmored healer, Mina! You will die out the

Mina's POV"Are you going to sit there and stare at me all day, or are you actually going to hand me that book?" Rhydian asked, a small smirk playing on his lips.I blinked hard, snapping out of the daze I had been stuck in for the past twenty minutes. I quickly picked up the heavy leather-bound volume from the bedside table and shoved it toward his chest."I was not staring at you," I lied instantly, my cheeks burning hot."You definitely were," Rhydian chuckled, catching the book in one hand. "You have been doing it for three days straight. Do I suddenly look different to you?""You look entirely too arrogant for someone who nearly died of a poisoned blade," I shot back, crossing my arms over my chest."Maybe I just like knowing you care," he murmured, his dark eyes softening as he set the book down on the blanket. The playful teasing melted away, leaving behind the heavy, electric tension that had been building between us ever since he woke up. The guarded coldness he used to wear

Mina's POV"What is that light?" Marra shrieked, stumbling backward into the wooden shelves and sending a dozen glass jars crashing to the floor."Get back!" Alaric yelled, shielding his face with his forearm as the bright gold glow filled the entire room.I did not look up from Rhydian. The blinding heat poured straight from my palm into his open wound. The dark, poisonous veins underneath his skin instantly withered away, shrinking back and dissolving into nothing as the gold light washed over them. His ragged breathing slowly evened out, turning deep and steady beneath my hand."The poison is gone," Marra whispered, her voice shaking as she stared at the clean pink scar closing over his side."How did you do that?" Alaric demanded, lowering his arm and stepping closer to the bed. "Wolves do not heal like that.""I do not know," I gasped out. My knees buckled beneath me. The sudden drain of energy hit my body like a ton of bricks. My vision blurred around the edges."Catch her!" Ala

Mina's POV"Hold his shoulders down right now!" Marra screamed across the bloody wooden table."I am holding him!" I yelled back. My hands slipped against his cold skin. Thick red blood coated my fingers completely."The bleeding will not stop!" a senior healer shouted from the corner of the room. "We used all the yarrow!""Bring the silverweed!" Marra ordered."We tried that ten minutes ago!" I cried out. "It is not working, Marra!""Do not yell at me, Mina!" Marra snapped. She wiped a bloody hand across her forehead. "I need to think.""He is getting colder," I said. My pulse took a sudden halt as his chest hitched. "Rhydian. Rhydian, can you hear me?"He did not answer."Look at the edges of the wound," the senior healer pointed out.I leaned closer. Black veins spread outward from the deep cut on his side."What is that?" I asked, my voice shaking violently."Poison," Marra stated flatly."What kind of poison?" I demanded."I do not know," Marra replied. She grabbed a glass vial f

They need medical help on the field immediately!""You are running straight into a Bloodcrest trap!" she yelled, blocking the doorway with her body. "I will not let you throw your life away!""Step aside right now," I warned her, my chest heaving up and down. "I am not asking for your permission.""You cannot save everyone!" Marra argued, her face completely pale. "You

Mina's POV"Where did you get this?" Vance asked, his fingers flattening the crumpled note onto his office desk."It was slipped under my door during the night," I replied, my hands shaking so badly I had to lock them behind my back. "I refused to sit alone in my room with that threat for another second."Vance leaned down, reading the ink lines a second time. His face grew darker with every passing second. "This is Odalys's handwriting, without a doubt.""She says she is not the only one who wants me gone, Vance," I said, stepping closer to the desk. "What does that mean? Who else is trying to target me?"Vance let out a heavy sigh, sitting back in his wooden chair. "It means Odalys was likely not acting alone from the start. Someone close to the royal family inside this very packhouse may have wanted you gone long before Bloodcrest ever entered the picture."A cold chill ran down my spine. "Someone in our pack?""I am doubling your guard effective immediately," Vance declared, stand

Mina's POV"If they do not return by tomorrow morning, I am taking a second party out past the river myself," Marra said, slamming a heavy ceramic jar onto the wooden counter.I jumped slightly, clutching a bundle of clean bandages against my chest. "You cannot do that, Marra. The council would declare you insubordinate.""Let them," Marra scoffed, wiping her hands on her apron. "Three days with zero word from the tracking party is not normal. Something went wrong out there."Days had passed since Rhydian and Alaric rode out into the dark woods, and the tension inside the packhouse stretched so thin it felt like glass ready to shatter. Every single hour crawled by in agonizing silence. To keep my mind from spiraling into total panic, I threw myself entirely into work at the healer hut, scrubbing tables, sorting herbs, and tending to the remaining injured warriors until my arms ached.Marra stopped pacing and stared at me, her sharp eyes softening just a fraction. She crossed her arms
