Sophia’s POV

The car hummed beneath me, smooth and expensive the kind of car that cost more than my dad made in a year.

I stared out the window at the city passing by with buildings blurring.

When I woke up this morning the bed was empty and cold.

He was gone.

With my head pounding from the hangover, my body aching in places I didn't know could ache.

He left a stack of cash.

Hundreds or may thousands I didn't count cause I didn’t need them cause taking that money would mean I was something I wasn't ready to admit I'd become.

But I couldn’t stop thinking about him.

His dark eyes.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw him.

Every single time

I pressed my thighs together shame burning through me.

This was supposed to be a one-night thing. No strings attached just two strangers using each other to forget.

But damn.

The thought of him made me wet it made my skin tingle, it made me want to do things I had no business wanting.

I wondered if I'd ever see him again.

I wondered if I even wanted to.

I rubbed my face with both hands, trying to push the thoughts away.

"Miss?" The chauffeur's voice cut through my spiraling. He was looking at me in the rearview mirror. "We're almost there."

I nodded not trusting my voice.

Almost there.

Almost at my mother's house.

What was I thinking?

I shoukd have fought dad about this then maybe I didn’t have to live under the same roof with this god forsaken woman.

Speaking of dad, I'd lied to him when I got home this morning.

I told him I was at Mia’s, we decided to spend the last night together.

If only he knew.

The car pulled through a massive iron gate.

I blinked.

The mansion rose up in front of me like something out of a movie with white columns, tall windows. Winding driveway lined with perfectly trimmed hedges.

This was where my mother lived.

This was where I'd be staying.

The chauffeur pulled the door open, and I stepped out.

My sneakers crunched on the gravel as I clutched my bag to my chest suddenly feeling very small.

The front door swung open and there she was.

Diana.

My mother.

She looked exactly the same maybe even better. Her hair was perfectly styled, not a strand out of place. Her dress was expensive and fit her like it was made for her and her makeup was flawless.

She looked like she'd stepped out of a magazine.

"Sophia!" She threw her arms around me, pulling me into a tight hug making me stiffen.

I couldn't help it I didn't know how to hug this woman this stranger who happened to be my mother.

"Oh, my baby," she breathed into my hair. "I've missed you so much. You look so grown up so beautiful."

I stood there, frozen, my arms hanging at my sides.

She pulled back her hands on my shoulders.

Her eyes were bright with excitement.

"Come in come in you must be tired”

She grabbed my hand and pulled me toward the house.

I followed like a puppet on strings

The inside was even more impressive than the outside.

Marble floors.

High ceilings.

A chandelier that probably cost more than my dad's entire house paintings on the walls and flowers in crystal vases.

It was beautiful.

"Your room is this way," Diana said practically skipping up the stairs.

I followed her down a long hallway lined with doors.

She stopped at one and pushed it open with a flourish.

"Ta-da!"

The room was huge.

Bigger than our entire apartment back home.

A four-poster bed with white curtains, a vanity with a lighted mirror, a walk-in closet and a window that overlooked the gardens.

It was beautiful.

It didn't feel like mine.

"Do you like it?" Diana asked her eyes searching my face. "I wasn't sure about the color scheme, but the designer said—"

"It's perfect," I cut her off my voice sounded flat even to my own ears. "Thank you."

She beamed.

I felt sick.

"I know this is a big adjustment," she said, stepping closer. "Living with me, new city and school but I want you to know, I'm so happy you're here. We're going to have so much fun together… you know, mother-daughter time."

Mother-daughter time.

Where was that when I was nine? Ten? Eleven?

Where was that when I was crying myself to sleep because my dad couldn't afford the school trip and I didn't know who to call?

Where was that when I had my first period and had to figure it out alone?

"Where's your husband?" I asked changing the subject. I didn't want to talk about mother-daughter time.

I didn't want to pretend like we were a family.

Diana's face lit up even more.

"Thorne? Oh he's away on business. He travels a lot but he'll be back in a few days. He's so excited to meet you." She paused. "I've told him so much about you."

I doubted that.

What could she possibly have told him? That I was eight when she left? That she didn't know my favorite color or my middle name or that I was terrified of the dark?

I forced a smile.

Sophia's POVThree days. It’s been three days since that humiliating night, since he'd walked into my room, watched me touch myself, called me a whore, and left me unfinished on the bed.Three days of avoiding him like my life depended on it.I'd become a ghost in the house. I woke up early before anyone else was awake, and crept down the stairs like a thief. I made sure to leave for campus before Thorne even came down for breakfast. I came home early and refuse to come down for dinner making sure to lock my room so mum won’t be a bother.I didn't look at him, speak to him or even breathe in his direction. If we happened to be in the same room, I kept my eyes fixed on the floor, on the wall, on anything that wasn't his face. The one time I'd accidentally made eye contact with him at the dinner table my stomach had lurched so violently I'd had to excuse myself.Diana had noticed. She'd asked if I was sick, if something was wrong. I'd told her I was just stressed about school. She bou

Sophia's POVMy heart dropped into my stomach.I froze. My hand stilled between my thighs and breath caught in my throat. He was standing in the doorway, his tall frame silhouetted against the dim light of the hallway. His eyes were dark, unreadable, fixed on me with an intensity that made my skin prickle.I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out.He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him the soft click of the latch echoed in the silence."Did I ask you to fucking stop?"I stared at him my brain struggling to process what was happening. "I—you—""Continue.""Thorne I can't—""You can." He walked toward the bed each step slow and deliberate. "and you will now continue Continue….Keep touching yourself. Let me watch.” he ordered, his voice still cold, but now edged with something that made my stomach flip a mix of authority and a dark, almost predatory interest. My face burned as my body was trembling, caught somewhere between embarrassment and arousal. I should h

Thorne's POVI couldn't focus. The papers were spread across my desk, numbers and reports blurring together into meaningless shapes. I'd been staring at the same page for an hour and I hadn't absorbed a single word.I leaned back in my chair rubbing my eyes with the heels of my palms. The clock on the wall read 2:07 AM.I'd been in my study for hours, trying to get work done or rather distract myself. It wasn't working.Nothing was working.I hadn't been able to finish half of what I needed to do not since that night. Not since I'd seen her walk into that club, all wide eyes and trembling lips, looking like she was drowning and desperate for someone to pull her under.I'd had one-night stands before. Plenty of them but none of them were like her, none of them made me feel like I was losing my mind and haunted me the way she did.Sophia.Just thinking her name sent a jolt through me. I could still feel her skin beneath my hands. Still taste her on my lips. Still hear those soft litt

Sophia's POVI sat down in the chair across from him with my bag clutched in my lap like a shield the leather was cold beneath my thighs. He didn't say anything at first he continued working like I was invisible before he finally set the pen down letting out a breath and leaning back in his chair watching me with those dark, unreadable eyes making the silence stretched between us thick and suffocating.I stared at a spot on the wall behind him anywhere but his face."So," he said finally. "Are you going to tell me what's going on with you?""Nothing.""Nothing." He repeated the word like he didn't believe it. "You couldn't answer a simple question in class. You were staring off into space like you were a million miles away and you expect me to believe it's nothing?""Yes."He leaned forward his elbows resting on the desk. "I'm not in the mood for games.""Neither am I." I finally looked at him. "I'm fine It was just a long night and I didn't sleep well.""Is that all?""What else

Sophia's POVI found a bench near the fountain and sat down, trying to collect myself. The afternoon air was cool against my skin. Students walked past in groups laughing and talking, their lives so normal and carefree. I watched them with a hollow feeling in my chest."Sophia! Hey!"I looked up Ryan was jogging toward me with a grin on his face next to him was a girl with dark curly hair and bright green eyes wearing a colorful sweater that matched her energy."Hey," I say forcing a smile.Ryan stopped in front of me. "I was hoping I'd run into you this is Ashley she’s in your Business Strategy class too."Ashley waved. "Hey! I saw you in Professor Sinclair's class the other day. You were sitting in the middle row right?""Yeah that was me.""I remember because you looked like you wanted to be anywhere else." She laughed. "Trust me I felt the same way. That class is brutal.""It's that bad?""I told you Sinclair is intense," Ryan said.Ashley nodded. "He's known for being super str

Sophia's POVI barely slept.Every time I closed my eyes, I saw his face those dark eyes boring into me his hand on my wrist. And my body betrayed me every single time.I hated it.I hated how my skin tingled at the memory of his touch. I hated that even now knowing who he was, knowing he was my mother's husband and my professor—some sick, twisted part of me still wanted him.It was wrong so fucking wrong. He was my stepfather. He was my professor.I shouldn't want him I couldn't want him but my body didn't care about should or shouldn't. I tossed and turned all night, the sheets tangled around my legs, my mind racing in circles. By the time the sun came up, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck.I dragged myself out of bed and into the bathroom. The mirror showed me exactly how I felt dark circles under my eyes, pale skin, hair a mess.I splashed cold water on my face and got dressed into a simple Jeans and sweater pairing it with a comfortable shoe.I grabbed my bag and headed down
