LOGINAdolphus’s P.O.V.
“O come on, Adolphus. Stop staring at the bracelet. She will definitely like it.” Nathan yelled at me angrily this time and tried to snatch the box that I had in my hands, but I yanked it away and glared at him. There is now way that I will let him have this box which is a gift that I personally chose for Maddie. “We missed four of her birthdays, Nathan, and we weren’t with her when she didn’t get her wolf on her sixteenth birthday and then on her eighteenth birthday. Do you think that just a bracelet will make do for everything?” I asked him angrily. He huffed and slumped his shoulders. “Tonight is supposed to be a happy night for all of us, Adolphus. I know that you are worried for her, but we were helpless. We couldn’t come back or else do you think that I would have stayed away from her when she needed me the most?” he asked me, sounding both angry and regretful. I took a deep breath and looked in the other direction. I know that none of us had stayed away from her in those situations, but I also know how strong-willed Maddie is. In the past four years, I couldn’t watch her growing but knew everything about her. “Now we are back, brother, and soon she will share the beta title with me. We will be inseparable from tonight onwards.” Nathan comforted me, but the regret and pain in his voice didn’t subside. We bought a beautiful emerald bracelet for her, complimenting her sea green eyes, but it felt not enough for her now. “You know Maddie left a very strong impression on other leaders during the alpha meet this time?” He asked me again after some time, recomposing himself by now. I closed the box and put it back inside the internal pocket of my jacket. The weather was a bit cold now, as it was already October. Not that for me, as I was an alpha blood, but I still had a thin jacket over the t-shirt that I had worn inside. “Mom said that the royal couple also praised her for her vision on expanding businesses in the human world, and how to keep ourselves hidden among them. With the increase in the popularity of technology, it will be really hard for us to stay hidden all the time.” I told him what Mom told me about the alpha meet. “I am also thinking the same. We need employment opportunities for our people and also funds to feed and keep our people safe. Without expanding our businesses out of the borders, it will not be possible for us.” Nathan agreed, having a serious expression on his face. “I am thinking about calling a meeting with the alphas of all the neighboring packs to start a joint venture in the human world, employing our people there so that it can give us a good start.” I told him about my planning. “That’s a good thought. This way, we won’t have to fight with each other for resources,” he added and I nodded in agreement. I smiled helplessly when my phone started ringing again. It was my father and it was his fifth call by now. At the same time, Nathan’s phone also started ringing. “Aaah… not again.” He groaned angrily, and I laughed while showing him the screen of my phone. “What’s wrong with these old men? They refused to let us run in our wolf’s form, and now they are practically blowing up our phones with their calls.” He grumbled but picked up the call. I also picked up the call at the same time. I didn’t want my father to scold me if I miss this call. “How far are you two?” I rolled my eyes when I heard the same question coming out of both my phone and Nathan’s phone. “Dad, you two called us only four minutes ago. And come on, guys, at least ask each other once before calling both of us at the same time.” I grumbled annoyingly. “Okay… I called you to tell you that you and Nathan will come directly to the party venue. Although Maddie has the situation there under control, I think we all should stay there and wait for you guys there.” He told me and I nodded in response. “Words. They can’t see us.” Nathan pointed and I gave him a flat look. “OKay, Dad…. we will take twenty more minutes, and please stop calling us so frequently. Mom, and Rita called us only two times after we left the academy but you and Albert have already called us nine times.” I was really frustrated by now. “We are just a bit more excited them, you know.” he shrugged nonchalantly and I grimaced. Without saying a word again, both I and Nathan hung up. “Let’s rest for a while. The party will go on the whole night.” Nathan suggested and I threw my head at the top of the backrest. I don’t know why I was so excited to meet Maddie, but I desperately wanted to see her. It had been ages that I had seen her last. Of course, we video-called each other a few times, but that wasn’t enough. From the young age, I had always been possessive about her. In the pack, everyone said that we could be mates, but when Onyx surfaced, he felt no connection with her. “You are wrong. I always adore her.” Onyx chimed in, correcting me in a flat voice. “But she is not our mate.” I argued, and he snorted. “That was when she was not even sixteen. You know very well that we can’t feel the connection with our mate before they come of age,” he argued back and I huffed. “Do you still wish her to be our mate?” I asked him in a low voice. He sighed and slowly put his snout on his overlapped paws. “She is everything that I can imagine in my mate, Adolphus. I truly wish that the Moon Goddess blesses us with her as our mate. It will be good for both us and her. She doesn’t have to leave the pack then, and we will get the girl whom we love the most.” he replied, sounding hopeful. I smiled and looked out of the window. The darkness of the night had started engulfing the surroundings but it also enhanced the dark beauty of the nature around us. Onyx was right. After learning that Maddie is wolf-less, I was not only heartbroken, but also worried for her. They never told us if she had found her mate by now or not. So, I assumed that she was still single. It only made me more hopeful to be her mate. Even if I am not, I will make sure that her mate will cherish her and give her the love that she deserves if she finds him in the future. “She is our princess, Adolphus. Of course, we will never allow anyone to break her heart.” Onyx declared, and I smiled widely, agreeing with him again.“What happened?” Cassius asked anxiously while holding Adolphus from falling.“Aurora. She is trying hard not to shift while Madeline is provoked to shift.” Adolphus told him, trying hard to suppress the pain and that burning sensation in every vein of his body.Suddenly an angry growl filled with rage and pain shook the whole area.Cassius looked around in panic and shock, but Adolphus knew who this wolf was.“We need to reach her as soon as possible. She can’t show her wolf.” He muttered and started running again, stumbling badly, but he couldn’t stop.Cassius snarled but held Adolphus tightly and started running swiftly.Adolphus didn’t hesitate to take his support and tried hard to run at his pace.“Help Aurora, Onyx. Don’t let her shift at any cost.” Adolphus instructed Onyx. “I am trying hard, pup, but they injected something strong and unknown to me. They are forcing her to shift against her will.” Onyx told him while snarling in anger, trying hard to help his mate, but somethi
No One’s P.O.V.Adolphus howled in pain before falling to the ground on his knees. “Adolphus.” Cassius shrieked in panic but pulled him up, saving his fall.“Ma… Maddie. She is in pain.” Adolphus groaned in pain while trying to breathe.“Onyx. Try to reach Aurora.” I commanded Onyx, who was also groaning in pain.“Come on. Let’s get going. I have trained you better than this.” Cassius urged grimly, dragging Adolphus with him. He had no intention of stopping again.Adolphus felt as if his chest would explode at any time. The pain was so intense that he felt like dying. He regretted not coming back for Madeline earlier.“Aurora said not to panic and endure the pain for a little longer.” Onyx told it to Adolphus while groaning in pain too. Adolphus was confused but it lessened his worry a little. He tried to breathe, but it only made his condition worse. “Hold your breath for now, Adolphus.” Cassius commanded him coldly.Adolphus sighed and closed his eyes, stopping for a few seconds and
Adolphus’s P.O.V.“This is outrageous. I know that those old hags lost their rationality long ago, but guilt-tripping her for giving up on a sc*mbag????” Oscar, one of us, yelled angrily as soon as Madeline left the meeting room.“See what you did, Nickel. You were asked to stay quiet and tried to make amends with her, not to provoke her.” Conrad roared aloud, making all of us look at the screen again.I clenched my jaw while looking at the scene unfolding in front of us.“What did I do wrong? She is already mated now and got an alpha as her mate. She will be a fool if she even glances at me.” Nickel retorted immediately but the way he talked with them made me narrow my eyes.“It seems that we forgot to clean our ship of rats before going out to find others.” Sylvester muttered, but my eyes were now glued on Conrad and Nickel, who were yelling at each other like they were acquaintances, not superior and subordinate.“To hell with your plans and making Madeline submit to me. I am done
Madeline’s P.O.V. (Continued)I scoffed internally while digging a hole in Nickel’s face when his face turned ashen as soon as I remarked about Miranda’s request.I hit the right nail at the right time. “You are spouting nonsense, Madeline.” He spat and I scoffed aloud while rolling my eyes openly.“And what nonsense I spouted, Nickel? I dare you to refuse that she didn’t make this request, and it didn’t hurt your pride, Nickel.” I challenged him aloud, holding my head high.“Enough, Madeline. We are not here for any physical fight.” Conrad scolded me sternly.“As if he has a chance to even stand up in front of me.” I muttered in a low voice, but Nickel growled aloud.“You know what? I did the right thing by rejecting you, you filthy mutt.” He spat angrily and I grimaced.“You forgot that I forced you to accept my rejection when you were writhing like the worm that you are on the ground in pain, Nickel. I walked away, keeping my head high while you embarrassed yourself by screaming li
Madeline’s P.O.V.“Calm down, pup. You cannot disrespect us like this.” The head of the council, Conrad Hemsworth, growled at me, trying to intimidate me after I broke the table in two halves.“I am not disrespecting you, Councillor Conrad. I am questioning your understanding about me.” I spat angrily. My chest was hurting so badly because of the anger that I could lash out at them at any time.“You have seen me growing up all these years, basically after that rogue attack in which I lost my wolf. Have you ever seen me lowering my head to anyone?” I asked him angrily, still trying hard to stay calm, but Aurora’s anger was fueling mine too.His expression darkened but he didn’t open his mouth. Nickel was still sitting stiffly at the other side of the room, opposite to me.“All of you were there when he and his chosen mate humiliated me verbally, but none of them raise a single voice at him. Why? And now why are you hoping with me that I would have fought for my mate bond with him when
Adolphus’s P.O.V. (Continued)We followed Sylvester without saying a word again. I welcomed this silence because this was enough for me to calm myself down.I was only 15 when I was approached by a mysterious man, asking me if I wished to join a secret organization that dealt with whoever hurt innocent people and packs in our world. This included all the other creatures too, including humans. I joined and took an oath that I would never reveal my involvement with this organization to anyone, not even to my mate.My training as a secret assassin started after I joined the alpha’s academy. I participated in so many secret missions to save packs from sudden attacks on them. It included a few attacks on my own pack.I trained, fought, and continued rising in rank in just three years. I learned about a secret organization that had been trying to develop hybrids in labs. With others, including Sylvester, we developed so many methods to deal with those hybrids, including physical fights and
