Before I could complete my sentence, the king, Raymond Hawk, interrupted me angrily. “You did nothing wrong, Madeline. Nickel has no right to speak to you like that. Wolf or not, you are my subject, and it was me and my mate who invited you here. Disrespecting the royal couple’s guest is already a grave crime let alone rejecting your fated mate. He acted without thinking about the consequences. I apologize for failing you, love.”

His words were like soothing balm on my wounds right now. He shot daggers are Nickel and his mate before huffing angrily and looked towards his mate.

I whimpered softly in gratitude and bowed respectfully in front of them.

I slowly straightened my back and smiled genuinely while looking at them with teary eyes.

“I request to take my leave, my king.” I requested and he once again, gave me an apologetic look before nodding in affirmation.

Luna Hailley immediately came forward and held my hand tightly. “Let’s go, honey.” She whispered to me, and we walked towards the exit; keeping our heads high and with confident stride.

I was glad that Luna Hailey held me because now the pain in my chest was so intense that my legs wobbled a little.

“Just a little longer, honey. We are almost there.” Luna Hailley comforted me, still holding me tightly into her side embrace.

For others, this scene was like a situation where a mother is comforting her heartbroken daughter, and partially it was true for me.

I was heartbroken and to stay on my feet in front of that p**ck, I used all my will-strength.

There is no way that I was going to give him the satisfaction of his rejection hurting me and throwing me on my knees.

Luna Hailley glared at me, and I laughed aloud.

“Is everything okay, Maddie?” Hank asked me worriedly as soon as we reached the car.

“Everything is okay, Hank. Thanks for asking.” I replied to him with a faint smile.

Hank was three years older than me, and he hadn’t found his mate yet. Alpha Lucifer had decided to form a team of unmated werewolves who are above the age of 20 and send them to different packs to find their mates.

This will also give us an opportunity to study the market and find new opportunities.

“Take us to the hotel, Hank. I need food after this whole crap.” Luna Hailley whined and my stomach chose the correct time to embarrass me.

It growled so loud that the royal guards stationed in the lobby and outside also looked at us in amusement.

“Now this was embarrassing.” Luna Hailley mumbled while lowering her head and almost pushed me inside the car.

I felt a pressure at the back of my mind and it was when I remembered that I had blocked all the mind-links so that no one can feel my pain through them.

“Maddie… Alpha Phillip Heath agreed to have a chat with us tomorrow morning regarding the Blue River Project. I know that I am asking for a lot, but before going to sleep, finish the preparation so that we can have a successful meeting with him tomorrow.” Alpha Lucifer instructed me in a serious voice, but I could sense his worry.

That’s it. This is the distraction that I needed the most right now.

“On it, Alpha. You can count on me.” I assured him confidently while smiling widely.

 

 

Third Person’s P.O.V.

 

“There is mishap during the alpha meet in the royal palace tonight, alpha.” I slowly opened my eyes and looked at my delta, Darren.

He got the signal and immediately added further. “The future beta Nickel rejected his fated mate in front of everyone, but the she-wolf accepted the rejection without any hesitation and humiliated him.”

I furrowed my brow angrily and slowly straightened my back.

“Why didn’t Miranda stop him?” I asked him coldly, not suppressing my anger here.

He gulped hard, and I started losing my patience.

I saw beads of sweat on his forehead, the clear indication that this wasn’t the whole story.

“Mi… Miranda tried to humiliate that she-wolf first, alpha. The she-wolf Nickel rejected is Madeline Summers.” I almost stood up from my chair when I heard the name.

“He rejected Madeline Summers?” I asked him, shocked by what I heard.

Darren blinked harder while looking at me fearfully.

“Miranda? Who doesn’t even know how to raise a punch, she humiliated Madeline Summers?” I asked, still trying to come out of my shock, but it was really hard.

Darren didn’t dare to open his mouth in reply, and truth to be told, he couldn’t say anything here.

“Instead of stopping Nickel from creating this mess, she actually fueled it. Does she not have a brain to use in a situation like this? She has ruined years of my planning?”

I roared while swiping everything at the top of my desk.

“What the hell they were thinking?” I roared again, blood boiling inside my veins, tempting me to kill someone at this very instant.

“Madeline is one of the best five future beta candidates, and that fool rejected her in front of the alphas and lunas?”

I couldn’t believe that I have some dumba**es in my team.

“Where are they now?” I asked Darren, ready to kill them for their stupidity.

“The… they are grounded by the king, alpha. The crown prince will come back next Friday, and … and the king has decided to take action against Nickel after that.” Darren replied to me while stammering a little.

Miranda was supposed to keep Nickel under her control after mating him so that I could start the next phase of my plan, but they decided to ruin it at the very critical moment.

This alpha meet was supposed to strengthen Nickel’s position as the future royal beta, but he and Miranda messed up everything because of their stupidity and arrogance.

“Send someone and kill Miranda. That girl is now a threat for us.” I commanded him coldly while staring at a blank point in front of my eyes.
