Today was the happiest day of my life, two special occasions makes today wonderful for me, one, I would be celebrating my fifth wedding anniversary with my billionaire husband Adrian Mattson and two, my test results proved positive today.
The doctor said I was carrying my bundle of joy, even the test results didn't lie, I couldn't be more happy.
After five years of living in an almost perfect marriage, Adrian and I would have a baby to call ours. This is definitely our proud parents moment.
Adrian didn't know of this yet, it's a news I'd be breaking to him soon enough and that would be tonight.
I did my hair and let it fall in a wave style below my shoulder and wore a velvet dinner dress. It's what hubby wants so he would definitely get it. My velvet dress shimmered softly under the lights. It wasn’t the most expensive gown in my wardrobe but I had chosen it carefully because Adrian once told me velvet suited me.
My heart fluttered at the thought of Adrian always complimenting me.
I stared at my stomach, there was no bump yet but I still slay in my dinner dress, I put on my heels and carried my bag and let our family driver take me in my lamborghini to the main event where we were going to have the wedding anniversary.
Tonight was supposed to be special because it was our fifth wedding anniversary together, still we were blooming in our matrimonial life. It was five years of marriage to Adrian Mattson, the most powerful man in the city. The ruthless billionaire CEO everyone feared.
Everyone feared him but I don't. To the world, Adrian was cold, distant, and untouchable, to me he was absolutely amazing and different from their freaking point of views.
I had seen the other side of him. The man who once stayed up all night holding me when I had a fever. The man who secretly ordered my favorite food after long workdays. The man who had promised me forever.
I smiled softly and pushed open the doors. The moment I stepped into the ballroom which screams luxury, power and attention, the chatter around the room seemed to soften.
People turned to look at me but I was used to it by now. Being Adrian Mattson’s wife meant living under constant attention. Some people admired me, others clearly wondered how someone like me had managed to marry someone like Adrian.
A small-town girl.
An ordinary woman.
The billionaire’s wife.
I ignored the stares, scanning the room—tonight was supposed to be my fifth anniversary with the love of my life. My husband, my forever.
But instead, I walked into a scandalous disgrace.
"Here is she, the most pretentious cheat I blindly married. How could you, Scarlett Roberts?"
So, It's no longer Scarlett Mattson but Roberts? Wow!
I was surprised at his outburst, first, I didn't know what he was talking about and secondly, who the fuck was he calling a cheat? Me? I've been the most devoted wife since we got married.
"Honey, what are you talking about? How could you accuse me of something I didn't do?"
My beloved husband accused me of sleeping with another man in the presence of his business partners and the paparazzis.
Angrily, he threw divorce papers at me. His cold words broke my heart. "I would rather marry a stranger than stay with a cheating wife like you."
His ex walked straight to him, he kissed her. Full on the lips. Then her gaze snapped to mine, sharp and dangerous.
Right in front of me.
"A cheating wife should have no place in Adrian's heart, do you want to kill his prestige, you whore." Avery spat at me.
I fumed under my breathe before finally speaking up.
"Adrian, can we talk for a moment because I don't really understand what is going on? You're accusing me of cheating. How? When? Why? Do you have proof? It's obvious that you're the one cheating, how could you kiss Avery, I thought you said you're fucking done with her, this is the fifth year of our fucking marriage and you're repaying me with these?" I pointed at the divorce papers. "Asking me to sign them? You want to end our marriage?"
He slapped me hotly in the cheek. "Shut the fuck up, whore. Avery is way more better than you a million times, she doesn't cheat, she's responsible and I have to go back to her."
"Oh, that's why you made this up, making everyone see that I am the cheat when you're the real villain. What did I ever do to deserve this, we had the best marriage life, Adrian but you're ruining this for me, for us, for our un-" I shut my mouth at the last statement. I made sure my voice didn't break as a result from the hotness of his hands on my face.
He had never raise his hands on me before. His ex was back and now he wants to divorce me.
Adrian doesn't deserve to know about my baby, he doesn't deserve to find out. I won't tell him.
"Go meet the man you've been messing around with, you have no place in my husband's heart. You slut!" Avery raised her hand to hit me but I caught it like lightning.
"Dare call me a slut again and I'd make you lose all your hair, this is the last time you'd ever raise your filthy hands on me. Loser!"
"She's insane." Avery cried out.
"No, love I'm not. I just want to fight for my right, now I see that my heart doesn't deserve someone like you Adrian, you're a fucking loser. Now, let me have the fucking pen." I screamed at one of the paparazzi who had his pen and paper intact to write stories about me.
"Is she really going to sign?"
"Does it mean Adrian Mattson was right about her cheating on him?"
"What a loser woman, she would regret this"
"Fucking whore."
I bit my lower lips nervously, Adrian had crossed the line, he grabbed onto Avery's waist like he wanted her, and had to do away with me.
Yes, he did me shit today, I wasn't going to forget what he did, paparazzi took so many photos and videos of the scandal between I, Adrian and Avery.
"Are you afraid to sign it Scarlett, what a loser you are."
"I am not afraid Adrian, you don't worth me for one second, let me have the fucking pen!" I screamed at his face and spat at Avery.
"You'd both rot in hell when you die, your funeral would be one I won't miss." I smirked.
"Hilarious, sign the papers whore!"
"I will not only sign the papers Adrian Mattson but I'd also declare it for the whole world to hear. I, Scarlett Roberts Mattson, from this moment on, divorce you, Adrian Mattson, body, heart, and soul. Whatever we had ends here."
I waited for anger, for rage, anything.
But Adrian only looked at me like I meant nothing at all.
Scarlett I didn’t answer Ethan immediately. I didn't need to. His question still lingered between us, heavy and impossible to ignore. Do you want to go back to him? I looked down at my stomach instead, my fingers trembling slightly as I rested them over the tiny lives growing inside me. My babies. The only good thing left in my broken world. A painful silence filled the room before I finally let out a weak laugh. It wasn't because anything was funny, but because I suddenly realized how exhausted I was. I'm exhaustedd from pretending, exhausted from hurting, still I was exhausted from loving people who only knew how to break me. "I don’t even know who I am anymore," I admitted softly, the words came out smaller than I intended. Rawer. Ethan’s expression changed instantly. The distance between us suddenly felt too fragile, too thin to hold back everything we used to be. Everything we were in the first and second years of college. "You’re still Scarlett," he said qu
Scarlett The world stopped the moment the doctor spoke. "Your baby–" he began, and my heart clenched so tightly I thought it would shatter. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t think properly. Everything inside me braced for the worst. Then, I heard his words– "They’re alive." My eyes snapped to his face. "They?" My voice came out barely above a whisper, trembling, confused. "What do you mean– they?" A small smile tugged at the corner of the doctor’s lips. "You’re carrying twins, aren't you aware?" Silence. For a second, I just stared at him, certain I had misheard. Twins? No– no, that couldn’t be right. "I–" I let out a shaky breath, my hands instinctively moving to my stomach. "No– that’s not possible. I– didn’t even know I was pregnant until recently. How can I – twins?" "It’s more common than you think," he said gently. "But what matters is this– despite the accident, both babies are stable. You’ll need rest and proper care, but for now– they’re fighters."
Scarlett The road stretched endlessly ahead of me, a long ribbon of dust and heat that blurred into the horizon. I pressed my head against the window of the taxi, watching unfamiliar towns pass by like fragments of a life I no longer belonged to. I didn’t look back. I couldn’t. One hand rested protectively over my stomach, my fingers trembling slightly as if they already knew what my heart was still trying to process. "My baby –" I whispered under my breath, more to reassure myself than anything else. The driver sang loudly to a song playing on the stereo , he was completely unaware that my world had already fallen few weeks ago, or maybe he just didn’t care. To him, I was just another passenger heading to another state. But to me this journey meant everything. I was leaving behind a life that had quietly rejected me. Leaving behind a man I used to love. Body, heart and soul. Leaving behind a home that never truly became mine. A sharp breath caught in my throat as th
Scarlett Adrian’s mansion, some years ago… The atmosphere in the study was tense, thick with unspoken expectations and quiet disappointment. The golden chandeliers cast a soft glow, but it did nothing to warm the coldness in the room. Dorothy sat elegantly on the leather chair, her posture straight, her expression composed, but her eyes were sharp. Adrian stood a few feet away, his back partly turned to her, a glass of untouched whiskey resting in his hand. He leaned back, fingers steepled. "You have to start thinking seriously, Adrian, this is a crucial consideration." Dorothy said, breaking the silence. Her voice was calm, but firm enough to leave no room for misinterpretation. Adrian didn’t respond immediately. "She’s my wife, Mother,” he finally said, his tone controlled, though strained. "Not a business contract to be terminated at will." Dorothy’s lips pressed into a thin line. "Then perhaps you should remind yourself what kind of family you were born into." H
