Third POV

Gwen Astray was the perfect woman—kind, compassionate, and hardworking. A typical human living decently in the eyes of society. She’d been through one tragedy or another in her short life, the greatest, being the death of her beloved husband, ruled out as death by electrocution, even though nothing about Christian Astray’s death suggested that. The evidence should have been enough to pinpoint a suspect at least. But vampires were newly accepted into society, you see—one couldn’t have news like this leaking out to the public.

Damien remembered this case quite well. Six years ago, he had seen pictures of the murder scene. A typical case of a human being drained to death by one of his kind. Precious. Who would have thought, years later, he would be with the victim’s beautiful wife—and slightly deranged daughter?

He could play the part of a loving partner so well that nobody suspected a thing. Well, except for the little brat Gwen was raising. Rude, vulgar, and above all, too d

  • My Step-Father Is A Vampire    The Caterpillar And The Stairs

I knew what I had to do. But how to go about it—that was the problem. What the hell did I know about seducing men? And not just any man—someone like Damien didn’t seem easily manipulated. Still, I knew I needed to do this. It was the only way to protect myself and my mom.Once Gwen found out her loving boyfriend had cravings for her daughter, she would completely lose it. It would lead to a breakup, and I’d never have to worry about him again.I spent the entire night browsing books and manuals on how to appear more attractive to a guy—especially one so uptight and cold. After reading so much, I thought I’d at least gotten the hang of it. First, it was all about how one carried themselves; men were attracted to confident women. Fine. Second, appearing sexy might improve my chances of catching Damien’s attention. But that was all phase two. In phase one, I needed to be subtle. I couldn’t be too direct and give myself away, but I could start dropping small hints to catch his eye.I went

“You aren’t…” Any better, I wanted to say—but the rest of the words caught in my throat. My mouth tasted like rot, and my vision blurred. I felt like I might pass out right there in his car.Damien scoffed and pressed down on the gas. He was speeding up, like he couldn’t wait to be rid of me.I felt humiliated. Gwen—that was who I needed. Not him. How Damien ended up being the one to pick me up at one of the lowest points of my life was beyond me.When the car stopped in front of the house, I rushed to get out—and that was a mistake. My legs gave out, and I landed hard on my hands and knees. From the corner of my eye, I saw him—the devil himself—leaning against his sleek black car with his arms crossed, watching me like I was some tragic scene in a poorly written drama.I wanted to curse him out.Instead, I threw up.Sour beer and stomach acid hit the pavement. It was pathetic. I was pathetic. Petty human, he’d called me—and I was proving him right with every trembling breath.Get you

  • My Step-Father Is A Vampire    You Are Pathetic

I didn’t want to go home after that encounter—Mom was there, and I knew I’d end up taking out my frustration on her. The park seemed like the best place to cry my eyes out in peace.Petty humans…I will marry your mother, and there is nothing you can do about it.Damien’s words echoed in my head on repeat. I hadn’t expected him to be soft or gentle—he was a businessman, after all, someone who had made his fortune in just five years. But the way he spoke to me… he hadn’t just been arrogant. He had been cold. Unfeeling. Like an entirely different person. How was I supposed to explain this to Mom? Gwen was already so deep in her fantasy romance, she couldn’t recognize a red flag if it slapped her in the face. Damien claimed to love her—but we both knew it wasn’t about that. We had no money, no status, no influence. There was no reason for a wealthy vampire to get involved with someone like her.So why? What the hell did he want?⸻“Watch out!”I barely had time to register the warning be

  • My Step-Father Is A Vampire    The Devil

Mom was serious about that guy—they were really getting married. She had the huge diamond ring and everything. I knew I could try convincing her all I wanted that this was a terrible idea, but she wouldn’t listen. She was in love. The object of her affection? Damien West. CEO of a well-established real estate company. He was your typical handsome, rich guy—the kind who could have any woman he wanted. My mother, Gwen, worked for a much smaller firm. She said they met at some business meeting or event. I didn’t know the full story, but honestly, it all sounded like complete bullshit. There was just something off about Gwen’s new love. For starters, I couldn’t find any trace of him dating anyone in the past five years. It was like he hadn’t even existed before that—then suddenly, he was this big-shot millionaire with cars, houses, and a polished public image. What had he done before the money? Where had it come from? How had his company started? And why my mother? Those were the question

  • My Step-Father Is A Vampire    The Beginning

I hated vampires. And I didn’t even try to hide it—everyone at school already knew. Most assumed my disdain was because of Evan’s betrayal.Evan had been my boyfriend since we were fifteen. I’d fantasized that one day our love would lead to marriage. Looking back now, those daydreams explain why I missed so many red flags.Whenever we hung out, Daisy was always there. Sweet, bubbly Daisy—my childhood bestie, practically a sister. We’d grown up together as neighbors, inseparable since we were kids. And now? Daisy was with Evan.I kept my gaze fixed on my plate. I sat alone in the cafeteria. Normally, I’d be with Daisy or Evan, but that changed last week—when I walked in on them getting freaky in my room, my bed. So much for the three of us hanging out. Now the whole school knew, and I was the main topic of gossip.Daisy and Evan walked into the cafeteria hand in hand. I could feel Evan’s heated gaze on me. Now that supernaturals were free to roam the city—and most of the world—he no lo
