CHAPTER 7 Impulsive Decision

last update Date de publication: 2025-11-24 17:44:44

The wedding day of Mcki's father arrived. Something unexpected happened. The bride was nowhere to be seen.

"Gosh! What the heck is happening?" Ronan blurted out, nonstop, pacing back and forth in the church's backyard, puffing on his cigarette.

"Calm down. Your bride must be late," the other person said, patting his shoulder with sympathy and care.

"Late? You call it late? For almost two hours?"

Ronan blurted out, overwhelmed with frustration. It can't be, but his mind kept thinking about the possibility.

His companion thought deeply. "Could you call the person who recommended her to you?" he suggested, and Ronan followed suit.

"The hell?" the person on the line responded. "No... I'm definitely confident about her. She's not that kind of person, Ronan."

"Suit yourself then. You'd better come here." The call was abruptly cut off. Ronan was angry and feeling the pressure from the people waiting at the church. These circumstances were a huge embarrassment, especially for his daughter McKenzie.

The person Ronan spoke to on the phone arrived less than 30 minutes ago.

"How am I supposed to get married if I have no bride?" Ronan suddenly said as the woman approached them.

"Where the hell is she?" the woman asked.

"That's what we've been asking too, monkey," Ronan replied.

"Maybe that bitch decided to take all the money and run," Ronan's companion said sarcastically.

Ronan looked deeply into his female friend's eyes.

No one knows to whom Ronan will marry. So, what he wants to happen is possible.

But she didn't like it. "No! Whatever you’re thinking, no! I said no! Ronan!" she firmly refused.

"What am I supposed to do now? Aren't you the one who should fix this? You trusted and recommended your evil friend to me," Ronan argued.

"I doubted that, Ronan. You must have done something to make her quit at the last minute," she responded.

"That's the thing. The audacity of that bitch!" the other guy added.

They all knew the frustration, pacing restlessly.

"Please think about it. I can't back out now. People are waiting and watching. It could ruin my reputation, my credibility. So please, help me," Ronan pleaded.

"But you're asking for too much, Ronan. It isn't a simple yes-or-no decision. It's ridiculous," she said, remembering someone in the middle of everything that's happening right now, but then falling silent.

"She's right. Maybe this is a sign that you shouldn't get married," Ronan looked at the speaker. Does he have something to tell him? Is he the reason for all this chaos? Is he behind it?

"It will just be on the papers. You live your life as it is—just some precautions," Ronan bargained for her acceptance.

After deep thought, she recalled the betrayal she felt with someone from the recent event, so she decided on a path she might regret someday.

"Fine, fine!" she agreed, taking the place of the supposed bride.

"Thank you," Ronan said to her friend, feeling at ease.

The other person was disappointed with the outcome. He even disagreed with the wedding from the start, but he couldn't persuade Ronan.

This man wouldn't listen to him. Perhaps his daughter will. That's what he thought, but it's too risky. Everything may go wrong. He can't afford that.

Allyna’s hands stilled on Elle's back, her posture turning slightly rigid as she absorbed the weight of those words. She pulled back just enough to look down, framing Elle’s tear-stained face with both of her hands. Her dark eyes searched Elle's dazed expression with an intense, quiet gravity. "Mcki, look at me," Allyna murmured, her voice dropping into a gentle but incredibly cautious whisper. "What do you mean by that? How exactly did you see your dad and Osmund looking at each other?" Elle swallowed hard, her breath hitching as she looked up into the intense gaze of Allyna. The safety of the locked bedroom gave her the courage to finally voice the dizzying thought that had been taking root in her mind all evening. "It wasn't just a business greeting, Celeste," Elle whispered, her voice trembling as she clutched Allyna’s wrists. "In the foyer, when Osmund arrived... my dad's entire face changed. The cold armor he always wears around us just completely melted away. And then

The heavy silence of the room wrapped around them, a sharp contrast to the suffocating theater of the downstairs foyer and dining room. Allyna leaned back against the wood of the door, her dark eyes tracking Elle as the girl dropped her bag onto a chair. Deep down, Allyna was actually the person who wanted Elle to finally know the truth about her father’s true preferences more than anyone. She had known Elle suffer through years of misplaced guilt, carrying the agonizing trauma of her mother’s sudden departure, all while Ronan used his daughter's pain as a convenient shield to bury his own secrets. Allyna hated the unfairness of it. She hated how much it had cost Elle's emotional well-being. But despite that burning desire for justice, Allyna refused to be the one to break the silence. She didn't want the truth to come from her lips. She firmly believed that the revelation had to come from Ronan himself; he was the right one to say it. At the end of the day, it was his life, hi

The moment dinner concluded, the fragile illusion of family dinner dissolved instantly. Ronan wiped his mouth with a linen napkin, his authoritative mask sliding seamlessly back into place as he stood up from the head of the table. "Osmund, let's move to the study," Ronan commanded, his voice leaving no room for argument. "We have the quarterly merger files to review before tomorrow morning." Osmund offered a polite, practiced nod to Allyna and Elle, playing the part of the diligent business partner to perfection. "Of course. Lead the way." As the two men exited the dining room, the heavy oak doors of the study clicked shut behind them, instantly cutting off the rest of the house. The room was draped in dark leather and mahogany, smelling faintly of expensive scotch and old paper. The moment the lock turned, the professional distance between them vanished, replaced by years of built-up frustration. "How much longer, Ronan?" Osmund demanded, not even waiting for Ron

From where he sat at Ronan’s right hand, Osmund kept his expression perfectly smooth, maintaining the calm, dependable demeanor he had worn for years. But beneath the mahogany table, his fist was clenched so tightly his nails bit into his palm. He hadn't come tonight just for a casual dinner or a standard business briefing. Tonight, he wanted a definitive answer. For years, Osmund had played his part in this elaborate, exhausting theater production. He had stood in the shadows, watching Ronan marry Allyna, watching him build a flawless, traditional kingdom out of pure pride, all while hiding the only truth that actually mattered. Osmund was drowning. He was desperately tired of going with the flow, entirely suffocated by the endless, performance-driven acts required to keep their true relationship a secret from the world. Tonight, he was going to force Ronan to tell him exactly how much longer they were expected to live a lie. Reaching for the wine decanter, Osmund purpo

Before Ronan could press the matter or question the sudden familiarity, the heavy brass door knocker echoed sharply through the foyer, cutting the tense conversation short. The sound broke the momentary spell, and Ronan’s attention instantly snapped away from Allyna. The faint line of confusion on his brow cleared as he smoothed down the front of his tailored vest, stepping toward the entrance to open the door. "Ah, that must be Osmund," Ronan murmured, his authoritative composure returning in full force as the large double doors swung open once more. As Osmund stepped fully into the light, the cold, rigid demeanor Ronan usually wore like armor completely melted away. A genuine, unforced warmth flashed across her father's face—a stark contrast to the calculated, business-like affection he had shown his own wife and daughter just moments prior. He didn't just shake Osmund's hand; he clapped him on the shoulder with an ease and fondness that Elle had never once witnessed from h

The massive double doors of the mansion groaned open, and the oppressive grandeur of the foyer swallowed them whole. The marble floors reflected the harsh light of the crystal chandelier overhead, casting a cold glow over the man standing right in the center of the room. Ronan was waiting. He stood with his hands tucked casually into the pockets of his tailored trousers, his sharp, calculating eyes immediately scanning both of them as they crossed the threshold. "Dad," Elle said, stepping forward first. A sharp spike of anxiety sliced through her chest, but she masterfully forced her voice to remain steady, burying her panic beneath a well-practiced smile. She leaned in and pressed a brief, familiar kiss against her father's cheek, doing everything she could to project the image of the dutiful daughter."Sweetie," Ronan replied, his voice rich and deep, carrying the absolute authority of a man who owned everything in his orbit. He pat her shoulder affectionately before his gaze

Along with Allyna and Elle’s return to the country, Ronan also arrived. The smile on Elle's lips was more than just temporary because as they entered the mansion, Ronan greeted them. She should have been happy that her father had returned from a business trip, but she was punishing herself beca
