WHO IS YOUR BOSS?

Tanya's heart beat continually as she walked to school. This was the day she decided to come clean before her crush. She was going to confess her feelings to him and damn the consequences.

She wondered though, why Derek didn't give her the time of day. She was the brightest student in her class and people complimented her beauty whenever she walked on the road.

Her classmates were the only ones who looked down on her, probably because she was on scholarship and was the only student who still carried an iPhone four but how was that any of her fault?

She didn't choose to be poor. She was literally over the moon when her cousin got a new phone and gave her the one she was currently using and even though it was an outdated model, she cherished it so much.

Even Elaine, her closest friend since fifth grade had given up on their friendship, she had claimed that Tanya was an embarrassment to her and had given her the silent treatment.

After trying so hard to make her come around without success, Tanya had given up as well and now, she was all by herself.

But she decided that none of these was going to stop her today. She was going to confess her feelings to Derek and if she could get him to even smile at her for a second, she would be content for the rest of her life.

When she got to her class, Tanya noticed that Sheila's minions were hovering around her seat. She wasn't given much time to figure out their scheme as her maths teacher came into the class.

She quickly took her seat, while occasionally stealing glances at Derek. "He is so dreamy," she thought longingly to herself. She didn't realize that Sheila, Derek's girlfriend wasn't in class because she was so focused on Derek.

He suddenly stood up, took permission from the teacher, and headed for the convenience. Tanya took that as her cue and raised her hand to be excused as well.

When she tried to stand up, however, she realized that her skirt had been glued to her seat. She looked over at one of Sheila's minions sitting at the extreme and the girl smiled evilly at her.

Tanya then understood that they had placed glue on her seat and she had fallen into their trap without realizing it. The girl took out her phone and secretly started taking a video of Tanya.

Tanya forced herself to get up and attracted the attention of everyone when her skirt made a tearing sound. she opened her eyes in surprise when she touched her butt and realized that a large piece of her skirt had been torn off.

The whole class erupted in laughter and rejoiced at her expense. She ran out of the class while using her bag to cover her butt as she felt her tears forcing their way out of her eyes.

Today was supposed to be a happy day for her but once again, she had made a fool of herself. As she ran to the toilet, she heard a boy call out her name. She stopped in her tracks and turned to look at him.

The boy offered her his sweater, saying, "don't pay attention to those jerks, use this and cover your torn skirt."

Tanya gratefully collected the sweater from him and tied it around her waist. "My name is Bryce, and I transferred here a few months ago." The boy said to her.

"My name is Tanya," she replied while trying to smile. "Thank you so much for helping me today."

While they were still speaking, one of the toilet's doors was pushed open. Derek and Sheila came out at once. From the looks on their faces, it was obvious they had just finished making out.

Tanya's heart broke into a million pieces as she wished that she was the one in there with Derek. Sheila smiled at the both of them while Derek walked past them without a glance as if they were invisible.

Tanya saw the triumphant look on Sheila's face and knew that what she had just suffered was definitely planned by her. She smirked before saying, "we are done now, you guys can go in and have your turn."

Her voice was loud enough for Derek to hear and for the first time, he turned and stared at Tanya before walking away.

Tanya felt extremely embarrassed as her heart began to beat faster. What if Derek misunderstood and thought that she was dating Bryce? How would she ever be able to confess her feelings to him?

She thanked Bryce once more and bade him farewell while promising to return his sweater the following day. She just wanted to go home and lie on her bed.

She suddenly wished her life was different. Perhaps, if her parents were still alive, she wouldn't be so poor, she wouldn't be on scholarship and her classmates wouldn't look down on her. She would wear designer clothes, own the latest phone, and shop whenever she wanted.

She sighed sadly. There was no point thinking about these things as her life wasn't about to get better. Now she had a new problem to worry about, her torn skirt. What was she going to tell her grandma?

She was already hypertensive. If she knew that Tanya's classmates were making things difficult for her, she would worry unnecessarily. As she walked on the road, Tanya was so consumed by her thoughts that she didn't notice the man who had walked up to her and stood in her front.

She nearly bumped into him but he prevented it by using his hand to form a bridge between them. Tanya looked at him in surprise before apologizing for not watching the road. He smiled and said

"It's okay, Miss. My boss would like to speak to you."

"Who is your boss and what does he want with me?" Tanya asked suspiciously.

"Mr. Colby Tanner" he replied before pointing at the skyscraper on her right. Tanya opened her eyes in shock.

Colby Tanner was a legend. One of the wealthiest men in the country and people struggled to get an audience with him. Why would such a mighty person want to meet with an insignificant person like her?
