Seth's POV

I was handling Mom's funeral arrangements, but my phone wouldn't stop ringing.

"Seth, congratulations on becoming a father! We didn't hear so much as a whisper about such a big deal. You and Regina sure know how to keep a secret."

I smiled bitterly. To be honest, I'd only found out recently myself. To make matters worse, the baby wasn't even mine.

I raised my hand and tapped on my wife, Regina Morgan's, social feed. She had posted a photo of herself with the newborn baby, captioned. "Ten months of waiting, a lifetime of love and protection. There's another little man in the family to protect me now."

It was a heartwarming photo. Her smile was gentle, and her eyes were filled with tears of happiness. Our friends congratulated her in the comments, calling me one lucky guy.

My nose prickled as I looked at the photo. This was a scene I had pictured in my head countless times.

However, she was a classic career woman. She insisted on being DINKs, claiming that having a baby would set her career back and make her look ten years older.

I loved kids, but I loved her more, so I'd always supported her decision. However, both our families were old-fashioned, and our elders never missed an opportunity to nag us about having children.

The last time we visited the cemetery to pay our respects, Mom had merely mentioned the word "children" by accident, and Regina flew into a rage, digging up Dad's grave right then and there.

We had a huge fight because of it, and we gave each other the silent treatment for nine months.

Ironically, Regina, who had been adamantly opposed to having children, was now willing to take fertility drugs, injections, and IVF just to give her first love, who had cancer, an heir. She'd even given birth to his child.

Mom had only gone to find out what was going on. Yet, Regina had called her crude and ill-mannered and locked her inside a coffin to teach her a lesson...

I closed my eyes, as I couldn't find it in me to recall the gruesome state Mom was in before she died. She suffered from severe claustrophobia and couldn't even ride an elevator. Yet, she was locked in a coffin by Regina for ten hours.

Her eyes had been wide with terror, and her entire body had been covered in claw marks from her desperation to escape... I crouched down, clutching my chest. It hurt so much I couldn't breathe.

Everyone kept tagging me in the group chat.

"This calls for a celebration, Seth! You can't get away without sending us all a little something!"

The chat was overflowing with joy, yet all I heard was the funeral dirge and anguished cries.

I silently dropped a message. "The baby isn't mine."

At last, the world was quiet again.

Moments later, Regina called me. It was the first time she'd reached out to me on her own since our months-long cold war began.

However, the moment I answered, all that came through was her impatient voice. "Haven't you had enough? Do you have any idea how much trouble you're causing me by running your mouth in the group chat?"

Regina was my wife, yet she'd secretly given birth to another man's child behind my back and caused Mom's death. The second she parted her lips, she accused me of being unreasonable without a second thought.

"Am I wrong, though?" I sneered.

Regina fumed, "Seth, you've been giving me the silent treatment for nine months; you haven't replied to my messages or shown up for work at the company. I haven't even gotten angry with you, and I had the finance department pay your salary as usual. What gives you the right to throw a tantrum?"

Right after saying that, she broke into a severe coughing fit. The voice of her first love, Lucas Jenson, immediately came through.

"Reggie, you're still recovering from childbirth. Don't let him upset you and jeopardize your health. It's perfectly normal for someone like Seth, who grew up in a poor, remote village, to have a hard time seeing eye to eye with you.

"You're beautiful and kindhearted, Reggie. Now that you're a mother, you should be more patient and understanding with him."

Seth's POVRegina had committed a crime, and she'd had to go to prison to atone for her own actions. Unwilling to listen to her endless rambling any longer, I cut her off. "That's enough. I don't want to hear it. We're over. There's no going back. From now on, don't call me unless it's about the divorce!""Hold on, Seth!" Regina panicked, afraid I wouldn't hear her out. "If you're upset about that child's existence, I can give him up for adoption. Can you come back and give me another chance? Didn't your mother always want to see you have a child while she was alive? We can have one of our own and make her dream come true!"Irritated, I hung up on her.Regina's name popped up on my screen again in no time. I couldn't be bothered to listen to another word from her. I messaged my lawyer and left Regina's case entirely in his hands. I was determined to get divorced. …A month after Mom passed away, I still hadn't come to terms with her death. Every corner of this house was fill

Seth's POVI had left Mom's death in the hands of the cops and entrusted the divorce proceedings to my lawyer. Regina, the woman I'd once loved with every fiber of my being, was someone I no longer wanted to see, not even for a second. If it weren't for the pending divorce lawsuit that made cutting contact impossible, I wouldn't have even answered this call. Regina wasn't upset in the slightest. In fact, she actually apologized to me for once. "I'm terribly sorry about what happened to your mother, but I never intended to take her life. Even though I didn't particularly like her, I never slighted her when it came to gifts. "Winona's gone now, but the living still have to carry on with their lives, don't they? She would want you to be happy, too. She also—" "That's enough!" I snapped, cutting her off. "It was precisely because she wanted me to be happy so badly that she endured everything for my sake, only to end up dead by your hands! Regina Morgan, are you telling me all this

Seth's POVMom told me she was getting old and didn't want to get in my way. Last time, when Dad's grave was dug up, no one was more heartbroken or devastated than Mom. Yet, she knew I couldn't let go of Regina, so she comforted me and even made excuses for Regina. "Reggie wants to be childfree, and us dinosaurs just don't understand your modern trends. Maybe your mother-in-law has been pressuring her too much to have a baby, and she's been bottling up her frustration for a while. That's probably why her reaction was so extreme."At the end of the day, you two are married. If you have an issue, you should talk it out and work it through. You can't keep giving each other the silent treatment like this. Hurry up and find an excuse to make up with her already." Looking at her white hair, I refused to compromise. I was a good employee at work, a dutiful husband at home, and a son-in-law Sharon could count on. However, the one role I'd failed at was being a good son. I couldn'

Third-person POVHowever, Regina was well aware that it was wrong. She told herself time and time again that Lucas was a liar, yet she still couldn't help but believe him.The moment she learned that Lucas' days were numbered, all her lingering resentment dissolved into smoke. All she wanted was to put an end to everything once and for all, to help him one final time and, in doing so, help herself move on, too. Little did she know, she'd been deceived once again.Lucas was perfectly fine. Everything he'd done had been nothing more than an elaborate scheme to trick her into having his child. Because of that lie, she'd given Seth the silent treatment for nine months, and she hadn't even dared to reach out to him. She'd wanted to wait until the dust settled. Regina had thought that since Seth knew about her history with Lucas and was still willing to marry her, what difference would one more child make? She'd firmly believed that even at their wedding seven years ago, Seth woul

Third-person POV"What? My mother-in-law is dead?" Regina stared at the officers before her in disbelief. She took one look at Lucas, who was standing beside her, and instantly put her guard up. "When did my mother-in-law pass away?"The police officer frowned. "Last Monday."Regina scoffed. "Nonsense. My mother-in-law was perfectly fine last Monday. She even had enough energy to throw hands. "Did he hire you to pretend to be cops? Where'd you buy your uniforms? They're pretty convincing." Regina completely relaxed, assuming they were actors hired by Seth. Seth had made so many threats yesterday that she'd actually thought he was going to leave her. Yet, after only a night, he was already so impatient that he'd sent people over to put on a show. Lost in her own reverie, she failed to notice that Lucas' face had turned ghastly white. He, who was usually so talkative, was dead silent at this moment, wishing he could become invisible. Noticing she was all smiles, the poli

Seth's POVRegina was dumbfounded. She seized my arm. "What on earth is wrong with you?"I had brought up divorce so many times, yet she still thought I was just throwing a tantrum. "I'm serious. I wish you both well. After seven years apart, you've finally found your way back to each other."I'd once trashed our home in an attempt to keep Regina and Lucas apart. She'd called me immature, put me under house arrest for a week, and took off on a trip with Lucas instead. Now that I was sincerely wishing them well, instead of being relieved, Regina scowled at me. "I've already apologized and given you gifts, Seth. If you're still unsatisfied, just tell me what you want, okay?" Having said that, she suddenly remembered something and muttered to herself, "Hold on… You would never be this cruel to me. This must be your mother's idea!"Regina was furious, and she dialed Mom's number. However, the phone in my pocket began to ring. Regina still thought I'd hidden Mom somewhere. "Seth
