Cassian's POV

“She is my Luna,” I breathed, as I gazed at her. My vision was hazy, but I could see the determination she had.

“Seraphina, get out of the ring… you have no business there!!” Amy yelled as she marched up to Seraphina.

“Stop right there,” Seraphina thundered as she placed her palm in front of her.

Gasps and murmurs erupted in the air. Amy froze, her face pale out of shock.

I'm shocked too. No one had seen Seraphina wield so much authority.

“Seraphina… it's not safe, you are supposed to be in the seats watching like normal people,” Amy said, this time her tone was tamed.

I guess she was being cautious. No one knew what Seraphina was capable of any longer.

Seraphina chuckled, she stepped back towards me in the ring. “This… mother this is where I belong.”

I narrowed my gaze at her. What does she mean? Does she belong in the ring?

Seraphina shifted her gaze from her mother and looked up at the elders and pack members watching us.

“I belong wherever he is…!”

I closed my eyes as I gritted my teeth. “She is crazy,” I muttered under my breath.

“If Cassian is fighting, Seraphina will fight… wherever Cassian is, there she will be!”

God damnit.

Everyone fell quiet.

“I am going to be by his side through thick and thin… even though none of you don't seem to trust him anymore, I trust him with my life. And I'm willing to put it on the line for him!”

She was right, the people I had stood for all these years, believed the lies Elias put in their hearts… if they had trusted me enough, I wouldn't have to fight Elias to prove my worth.

Seraphina's jaw was clenched as she stared at Amy who stepped back slowly, until she retreated from the ring.

I underestimated her didn't I? She is not as weak as she seemed… She is courageous, and something in me screams that she is mine.

I noticed Seraphina's chest lifting and falling. I am sure she was enraged.

But why?

Was it because Elias and Mira are trying to cheat their way into victory?

Or… No, it can't be.

But, by any chance, was she fighting for me? For our love?

Fuck… come back to your senses, Cassian, there is no us.

I felt my wolf growl inside me.

He yearns for her, he wants a chance with her… but this abomination would divide the kingdom.

I gulped, struggling to my feet, as I stood beside her, she turned to me and nodded.

I smirked. Somehow I feel charged, seeing her stand by me had shot some kind of unnatural adrenaline through me.

I tightened my grip on the hilt of my sword, nodding back at her. She smiled and then turned away, facing Mira who was getting dressed in her battle outfit.

Seraphina wasn't wearing a battle outfit, though, she wore a sleeveless dress that flowed to her ankle and she had pants underneath.

Somehow, I didn't turn immediately. I stared.

I stared at the way her hands gripped the sword, the way her legs moved on the earth, as though she was a born warlord.

She amazed me. I have never seen her fight before, she rarely took her fighting lessons seriously.

Now, she stands beside me, her blonde hair, shifting in the wind, making her look like the goddess she is.

Pretty Seraphina. I never noticed she was this flawless, I only saw her as the daughter of my wife. I only took responsibility.

Maybe I never had time to see her true worth.

I heard Elias charging steps and I turned to see his sword out for my chest.

I shifted immediately, gliding with the wind as I turned and gave him a blow at the back of his head with the hilt of my sword.

He staggered forward, and when he turned to me, he wore a smirk. “You were just lucky,” he growled and then he charged at me again.

I watched his moves. He was too slow, too predictable. He is not even fit to be Beta not to talk of taking my place as Alpha.

As he threw a blow at me with his sword, I blocked it with mine. He pressed and I could see the fire in his eyes.

But, he wasn't strong enough, so I pushed him back in one go. He frowned as he staggered back.

“How?” He muttered under his breath.

I am sure he must be wondering how I have so much strength even though he had cheated by poisoning me.

I smirked as I turned to Seraphina, he followed my gaze and I guess he understood with the way his frown turned into a scowl.

“Oh… your little charm?” He grunted.

I shook my head as I corrected him. “My Luna… show some respect.”

He seemed fired up with rage at my backslash and he jumped, and raced to me.

I took every blow like the Alpha that I am. We fought fiercely, swords clanging filled the air.

“Seraphina!!” Mira yelled as she charged at her. I guess she had seen that her tricks were of no effect.

I was winning this fight. And then she plans to lash out on Seraphina.

My heart beat hiked as I feared for Seraphina… I have seen her courage, but I'm not sure of her strength.

I don't want her to get hurt.

“Darn it,” I groaned as Elias' blade cut my side. I held me as I blocked his other blow.

“Cassian!!” Seraphina yelled, as she skillfully ducked and glided to the side, dodging Mira's strike.

Gasps filled the air from onlookers.

“Mira… keep it up,” Elias yelled at her.

Shit… I should have known they'd wanted to distract me, by charging at Seraphina.

I took a quick look at Seraphina. She had her eyes on me. In the nick of the moment, I noticed something in her eyes. Fear.

I was bleeding from my side. Fighting Elias absent-mindedly as I tried to look at Seraphina.

It seemed she was also distracted… no, so looked hella worried.

Because of me.

Seraphina… She was fighting for me. I must not lose this fight.

Before Seraphina gets hurt… I have to beat Elias.

I faced Elias squarely.

“Ahh!!” I heard a piercing cry and a thud. I felt a pang in my chest as I turned to Seraphina, my heart failing me.

The ache in my chest made my volume so low, despite the fact that I had struggled to find my words.“Oh really?” Mother scoffed, shaking her head as she looked down at me with pity. “Tell me then, when is the time?”I stayed mute.Never though… I don't ever want to walk about this. • My alpha stepfather is my mate    Chapter four: Betrayal and the breaking point.

My heart hammered a frantic rhythm against my ribs. Today was the day. Today Cassian would fight with Elias for the alpha position. He was magnificent. He looked like a warrior ready to claim his birthright. Yet, beneath the surge of pride that swelled within me, a knot tightened in my stomach. I had seen the way Elias, Mira and her supporters had looked at Cassian earlier. The looks spoke volumes of their resentment and fury. Cassian had trained relentlessly. For days. I watched as Elias approached Cassian, a forced smile plastered on his face. They exchanged words, too low for me to hear, but I saw the way Elias’s gaze flickered towards me for a split second before returning to Cassian. It was a look that sent a shiver down my spine, an uneasiness that I couldn't quite understand. Then, Mira. She moved away from Elias's side, her movements exaggeratedly casual, like a predator circling prey. She offered Cassian a handshake, her smile sickeningly swee

  • My alpha stepfather is my mate    Chapter three: The Challenge and the True Enemy

Chapter Three: The Challenge and the True Enemy. I stood alone in the garden, thinking about...everything. For weeks now, Cassian had maintained his cold distance. He was seriously avoiding me. But even with that, he refused to reject me, this much was certain. The bond between us still hummed—it was still very much alive and we could both still feel it. I could always see the battle raging beneath his skin in the quick glances we shared, and the clenching of his jaw whenever our paths crossed. Cassian was saying nothing, and yet his silence spoke volumes. He was determined to keep me at arm's length, to draw a line between us that was not to be crossed. Rumors buzzed around the pack so fast and Elias was their source. He said so many untrue things about me, and even Cassian. Since then, I could see the change in some of the pack's eyes, thanks to Elias's malice. Cassian was losing them, and every day that passed was making them question his leadership ev

  • My alpha stepfather is my mate    Chapter two: the choice between duty and instinct.

Chapter two: The choice between duty and instinct. Lately, the silence in the pack was a heavy one, and it was suffocating me with its weight. It had been like this for days, ever since my birthday party and mating ceremony, a day that changed my life forever. Since then, everything had been so weird in the pack. Nobody wanted to speak to me, everyone ignored me, my mum included. I curled tighter into myself the blanket I had dragged to the back corner of pack house, as far away from everyone as possible. There was something that I had constantly been feeling since that day. Shame. Shame for the forbidden warmth that bloomed in my chest whenever Cassian was near. Shame for the traitorous yearning of my wolf to whisper his name in the deepest parts of my soul. The mate my wolf craved was a man forbidden. He had married my mum, and made her feel like a woman again, and now, he was also an unbearable, impossible ache in my heart. I pressed my forehead a
