CHAPTER NINE

“Oh, you’ll need a date for that day, Joe!” Yvette chirped in.

“Or do you already have one?”

“Uhm. Yes.”

No, you don’t.

“Allison,” I lied, and I saw Moira’s smile drop.

“But she’s not my girlfriend,” I was quick to add, as if that mattered. I wasn’t going to ask Allison. I wasn’t going to ask anyone, because I’d rather go by myself so I could leave with someone new and exciting, and slightly drunk. In weddings there was champaign. And champagne and horny women... Do the math. You were almost guaranteed to get a hole in one.

Yvette and Moira exchanged looks that I chose to ignore. I just hoped they left it with that and didn’t try to set me up somehow. But I was paranoid throughout the whole meal, and so relieved when it was time to go, that if I had a tail, I’d be wagging it like a helicopter.
