CHAPTER TWENTY

Roselyn was the first person I called to share the good news and she was so happy for me. She insisted that I come over to her workplace to celebrate. According to her, let's celebrate our little wins.

I was so tired but I needed her to share in my happiness. The night is drawing near. I will hurry up and go home.

“ I am happy you are getting there”. She brought out some wine to celebrate.

I spent some minutes with her before going home very exhausted.

“ Don't tell me you are just coming from the agent's place, you haven't started working, you are coming home by this time of the day, when will you be getting home when you finally start working and you become the boss. I don't think this will work out”. He exclaimed.

" What kind of man are you? You should be happy for me and not be bitter."

“ Lawson, you need to calm down. I went to the agent and after I left there, I went to see Roselyn to celebrate with her. I got the shop”. I spoke to him in a cool manner.

“I knew it, can you hear what you just said? You went to Roselyn first instead of coming home and informing me. I told you I don't like that girl she will influence you badly”. He said angrily.

“ Lawson, there is nothing to be angry about here, it was just to celebrate, I will surely tell you when I get home, and besides why are you so adamant that you don't want to see me with Roselyn. You better tell me the reason now, I don't have any friends aside from her and it was because she is my old friend”. I also stood my ground”. He looked at me as I went upstairs.

When we were ready to sleep, I knew he would have calmed down by then.

“ Lawson, I need some money to get some of the equipment in the studio,” I gently said.

“ So can you eventually ask me for money? I thought you had your own money since you started planning everything without me. Well, I don't have much for now, but I will give you 100Dollar to start. Let's see how you can manage that before I invest in you”. He said

“ 100dollar? For what please? There are lots of things I need to do.

1. Getting furniture like a reception desk, salon chairs, waiting chairs/ sofas etc.

2. Hair equipment like hand and hooded dryers, hair clippers etc.

3. Manicure and pedicure equipment for the nail section.

4. Facial and skin care equipment.

5. Make-up section. To mention but a few.”.

“ I heard all you said, but you need to start small, I can't afford everything you just mentioned at the moment, and besides, I can't waste my hard-earned money on what I am not sure of" he said

“ You can't afford them or you basically don't want me to be independent? Even if you are not sure of how experienced I am, I can employ people, I don't need to do most of the things myself, I will put everything in place myself and put you to shame, I just want to tell you about it and carry you along”.

The next morning, I called Aaron. I need someone to help me with the things I need to get. I know Roselyn won't have that time because of her type of work.

“ Hi, can I see you? I need help with something, when will you have time for me?”

“What exactly do you need my help with, can't we talk about it here, I am a bit busy and I don't want to keep you waiting”. He asked me

“ I need help on how to get new equipment and items for my beauty studio, I need someone to recommend things to buy and go with me”. I explained 

“ Wow, you are setting up a beauty studio? Congratulations  but I am kind of busy today and tomorrow, can you wait till the day after tomorrow? Is that okay with you?”. He asked.

“ Of course, it's okay by me I will wait”.

" Okay I will see you then" he hangs up

That settles it, I have booked an appointment with Aaron, my mind can finally be at rest on how to get those things needed. I know we will get good equipment.

The next thing on my mind is how to get staff, I mean the right staff in my studio. Since I am just joining this business and I don't have anyone to refer workers to me, let me make use of the internet then.

Within a few hours, lots of people applied, and by the next day, I had lots of applicants.

Then I messaged them to send in their details which include

Full name 

The position they are applying for

Years of experience 

Pictures/ videos of their work

Licence (for New York).

To help me filter the serious ones from the unserious ones.

After that, I shortlisted the best candidates after checking their work quality, experience, and communication.

I sent those shortlisted invitations for an interview, and I scheduled the date for a week after in order to get those items and equipment needed ready.

I called Aaron to remind him about tomorrow and he gave me his word.

I met with Aaron the next day and we swung into action.

“ Where should we go first?” He asked

“ These are the lists of the things we are getting, we can start from anywhere”. I handed him a paper.

We moved to get the furniture first, then to the hair equipment and items.

We couldn't get everything that day because choosing a particular thing takes time and before we knew it, the time had gone.

“ Let's continue tomorrow, we can't get everything today,” he said.

“ Alright, thanks so much for your time”.

We had to wait for the moving company we hired to move the equipment and items we bought to the studio.

We couldn't arrange anything in the studio and just went home.

“You really helped me today, I am indebted to you”. I thanked him

“ It's nothing, what are friends for”. He left for his house and promised to check back tomorrow.
