Chapter 2

Jack has suddenly ghosted me and honestly I can’t tell why.

We talked about him coming to New York, he didn’t give me the details but he just said he’ll be here soon and he’ll let me know when he arrives.

He hasn’t spoken to me since that day. I assumed maybe it meant he was coming like that day or the next day but he hasn’t responded to me till now and I honestly don’t know why and it’s been like 5 days now.

I started getting worried and dark thoughts started creeping in, what if something terrible happened to him? A plane crash perhaps?

I checked in to see if there were any crashes from Miami to Newyork but none.

Even checked their local news to see if there were any road accidents reported, still none.

I started overthinking things.

What if he thought I wasn’t worth all the stress and just ghosted me. But then why would he do that to me though?

I sighed and did my best to get my mind off him and focused on planning an excellent dinner for my Dad and his girlfriend.

Dad was so nervous, he went through everything over and over again.

He made chicken and Turkey because she mentioned she liked both of them, he got her lilies because she said they were her favorites.

He made sure he didn’t put anything she was allergic to.

I had to assure him 600 times that everything was perfect and he needed to stop stressing.

We decided to have the dinner at our main house outside school. Dad was okay moving out of it temporary because it was a lot easier for him in school and it helped him forget about my mother, they literally spent their whole lives living here. But the divorce was needed, they needed it.

Hours later, he left to pick her up from the airport and then I heard him drive in.

I went to open the door.

She looked so beautiful and sweet.

“And this is my son Benjamin, uhm, Benjamin this is Belinda “.

“Hi, nice to finally meet you In person, I’ve heard too much about you and you look amazing “, I complimented.

“Thank you so much h you’re too kind”, she said hugging me.

“Youll love my son, hes the sweetest honestly “, she said.

“Where is he?”, I asked looking outside, Ive been very eager to meet him.

I don’t really have much friends, but I really hoped he would like me and we would get along very well.

“He was robbed in school, lost all his devices so, he asked he buys them here first, he’s at an electronic shop.. or whatever you youngish call it, I sent him the address here so I don’t think it’ll be difficult to reach it considering your house is pretty close to the airport “, she explained.

“Oh sorry about that”, I said.

“No it’s fine it’s fine, thank you for asking “, she said as we led her inside.

“Uhm can I get you water … do you want warm water or ice? I mean… I mean cold water.., yes cold or warm … we even have sparking water “, my Dad said nervously.

“We do?”, I asked confused cuz since when.

Then he gave me the eyes, “ I mean yes, yes we do, all types”, I corrected myself immediately.

She giggled, “Cold water will be fine”, she said and my Dad nudged me to go and get Water from the fridge.

I did it and gave her then I went upstairs to give them some privacy because it looked like they wanted to kiss.

A couple minutes later my Dad called me.

“come help me set the table”, he said and I noticed some lip gloss on his lips.

Ughh this old man.

I teased him making kissing faces at him when we were alone in the kitchen.

He was so red you’d think he’s a tomato.

While we were setting the table, we noticed a black Uber parked outside and then a call came through from Belinda.

“Uhm, My son is outside “, she said.

“Oh beautiful, Uhm Benjamin please bring him in, tell him to join us Outside for Dinner”, my Dad said carrying the food carefully to the Dinner table outside by the poolside with Belinda following Hii behind.

He was so scared that the food would be terrible, he almost hired a private chef but I stopped him, he was a good cook and he knew it, I’ve never seen my Dad so nervous and bent on impressing a woman, she must be really special.

“Okay”, I said and then cleaned my hand and then went to the door, I opened it with a bright smile on my face.

All of the sudden, the smile faded.

“B… Benjamin?”, he called my name, my heart pounding fast.

“Jack?”, I called out too, in shock.

“W… what are you doing here?”, he stuttered asking.

“I live here…. What are you doing here?”

Right at that moment i prayed he was the pizza delivery guy my Dad forgot to mention, but nope he wasn’t.

He had his hands filled with Bags.

“Maybe I got the wrong address”, he said fiddling with his phone.

“Is your Mom Belinda Davis?, I asked begging he would say the opposite.

“Yes”

“Shit!”, I cursed out loudly
