Sophia's pov.

"Okay, she's really crossed over now,” I hissed with anger. I wanted to go speak to Victoria after the meeting was finished, but it didn't happen. I thought Adrian would do it, so I went to comfort my sister. But now? No way I'm sitting back while she messes up my sister's life for whatever crazy reason she has!

The guards at her door attempted to halt me. “No, Luna Sophia, the alpha’s Mother wants privacy…”

“Well, she's going to have that privacy after I'm finished saying my piece!” I told them and pushed through.

Victoria looked up slowly from her desk, calm as never. Didn't even flinch. For an instant, her pen was suspended above the paper, then she replaced it next to the ink.

"Sophia," she said, somewhat smoothly. "And what is all this about? Did you forget something called Knocking? Never mind. What brings you to my chambers? Shouldn’t you be resting?”

"Don't act as if you don't know," I shouted. It was louder than I intended to be, but I didn't care. "What did you

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   Luna’s doubt

Victoria’s POVThe rumor about the miscarriage, along with the sadness for the royal heir gone, spread like wildfire. The entire palace seemed to accept it. Everyone except me.Something just didn't feel right.I stood by my chamber window with my hands clasped behind my back, looking out onto the courtyard. It had rained, and the stones were gleaming under the morning sun. Some maids walked across the courtyard with baskets in hand, whispering and glancing at rooms above. It has been three days since she supposedly fell and lost that child everyone called a blessing from the Moon Goddess. The healers claim she is improving, and Adrian is standing vigil over her like a mourning husband. The rest of the palace just lapped up the tale, as always. Not me.I know a lie when I see one. After all, I've told innumerable ones and can make out the sight of one with scorn.I turned away from the window and walked over to my desk, expressionless. The report from the council and border patrol lay

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   Chains of duty

Lila's POVThe days after the council meeting dragged and dragged. The palace became so quiet, but it wasn't peaceful-not really. It was that kind of awkward silence when everyone pretends things are fine while they are not. Every hallway I walked down had whisperings drooping behind me. Servants would hushed stop talking right as I strode past them. Guards bowed down super low with their eyes looking at me like pity mixed with respect.Everyone knew it now.Everyone thought I carried the Alpha's child. At first, I could manage. I could fake it until I found the strength to say it out loud. As weeks went by, the lie started becoming heavy and crushing.Guards were accompanying me wherever I went-two were standing on my door, two others followed me going to the gardens, even going to the healer's place for checkups-there they were. They were meant to guard my safety, but that just reminded me I was stuck in the trap I made myself. They have been looking at me like I will give birth to

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   The verdict

Adrian’s POVThe grand council hall was too quiet that morning.I sat at the head of the long table, my eyes focused on the papers that were before me. I had not slept since our return from the diplomatic visit.Victoria sat beside me, perfectly held in her posture, calm in her expression, as if this meeting were nothing but ordinary business. I knew better. When my mother kept quiet, it usually meant that she was prepared to strike. The council members murmured on the other side of the table. Ethan sat stiff and pale beside them, his eyes darting nervously between me and the door. Marissa was thankfully absent.Lila stepped in as the heavy door creaked open. The murmurs intensified. She walked slowly, she looked like her soul had taken from her… and in a way she was going through some spark killing experienced. She bent slightly at the waist before taking up her seat at the far end of the hall.My chest tightened at the sight of her. I had not looked into her eyes for days; even now,

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   Home coming

Lila's POVI could barely make it to my room.My maid Clara was so taken by surprise , her mouth opened , her eyes flew wide open in horror, she loosened her hold on the basket and it fell to the ground."Oh, Lady Lila!" I cried, hurrying to her side. "You're—you're white as a sheet! You just can't stand at all! What's the matter? Did you faint or anything?""I'm fine," I stuttered, struggling to get hold of myself. My lips were parched. "Just dizzy from the ride, that's all."Clara didn't know what to do with this. She dragged me out of bed, taking my arm. She hardly touched me, but that was more than I could bear. Clara frowned at this, but I could muster no more than a half-dead smile in an attempt to placate her."You were outside. You must rest, my lady. You cannot tire yourself in your condition."My condition. The words cut me like a knife. I tried to laugh, but my lips went through the motions of opening and closing without a sound. I shook my head slowly instead."I'll sleep

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   The sacrifice (2)

Lila's POVMorning came far too fast really.I sat with one hand on my stomach and the other clutching the test results, shaking fingers refreshing that all-too-familiar reading: Match confirmed.Sophia's donor. It was me.Every time I closed my eyes, I could see Adrian saying, "Don't donate." I begged him for days, but Adrian told me to wait since he was still looking for a donor. He didn't want me to donate because I was carrying his child. But little did he know, I didn't care about him and even the baby.I had made my mind the moment I saw the test result; I just hadn't uttered it to anyone. There was a soft knock at the door. One of the maids was young and kind of scared."Miss Hayes," she whispered, "I have news."My heart jumped. "What is it?""The Alpha and the Luna Mother went to the borderlands for a meeting. The guards think they’ll be gone for a few days."I stood frozen in my spot. "They left?""Yes ma'am. Right before sunrise."I took a shaky breath. With Adrian and Vict

  • My sister’s mate became my forbidden love.   The sacrifice

Lila's pov I slowly opened my eyes, waking up to yet another day in the hospital. My fingers quivered as they brushed across my belly. The baby was still there . I felt so good, almost to the point of tears. Then there were voices outside the curtain."...Luna is getting worse," said one healer in hushed tones. "Her body is not responding to the medicine."My heart froze.Sophia.I tried to listen."They said the cancer has spread very fast," another voice spoke hushedly. "Her platelet count is low. We checked almost everyone in the pack for a match, but so far no luck.""That does not leave her a good chance," the first healer continued. "Without a match..."I continued losing them, but I knew well the end of it. My sister was on her way to death, though. And here I was, doing nothing.Sophia needed someone.I swung my legs over the bed and held onto its edge for balance. I was shaking and weak, but I knew what I had to do. I kept imagining my sister's face. There was just no way sh
