Who Was Her Mate?

Lord Kizia just stood there in transfix, his eyes solely on the woman lying on the ground whose life force was cut out.

As he was still in oblivion, a woman with a crown of the moon rushed in, tears flowing down her eyes. Her hair was gradually turning dark but there were ligaments of white at the tip.

"Athena…" The woman whispered softly, kneeling to take a closer look at her.

"Aunt Selena… mother… she…" Helena stuttered, her breath was heavy as she stared at her mother.

The woman that just rushed in was her mother's sister, Queen Selena. She is the moon goddess that the halflings are entrusted to by the Order of the Mystic gods.

As Helena wanted to say more, she caught sight of her aunt's hair. It was getting dark, the moon was losing its shine as a result of the orb. There was a sudden flash of light enough to tear a crack in the firmament of the immortal realm.

Helena had no time to think about anything else. Something worse was going to happen if she didn't take control over the orb. If the orb loses control with her father, the mortal world would be destroyed in no time.

Turning around in circles with her hands dancing in the air, just like her mother had been teaching her, she tried to connect with the orb. But after three failed attempts she was getting frustrated.

"Arrrrrrggg! Mother! You have to wake up! I can't do this alone!"

Just as she was lamenting, she began to hear a little rumbling of thunder. Oh no! Her father was losing his control and that was not good. She has to do something.

"Believe in yourself and the people you have to save. There might be someone special, not worth losing" her mother's words replayed in her head.

Closing her eyes to absorb the energy of the mortal and immortal circle, a view started playing in her eyes. Different energies from the mortals were displaying non-stop. Something kept drawing her force towards a little pack, somewhere in the mortal world.

Just like her mother, Helena caught a glimpse of a dying woman but she was under labor. Seeing the energy draining from her, Helena could tell that she was going to lose the child.

Unless she could summon the orb to save her.

"Save my son! Save him… Helena and I promise to…give him to you "

Helena was so surprised at the request of the woman that she didn't listen to the last words. This was a pack of halflings known as werewolves and their prayers were directed to her Aunt, Selena. Why was she calling on her instead?

"Aunt Selena, you have to attend to your children…" Helena said to her aunt, looking anxious.

" I can't… I can't… the orb is getting weaker… besides, she is calling on you" The moon goddess replied. Her powers were getting weak as the Orb was slowly losing its powers.

If it doesn't have a new owner soon, something bad would happen in the immortal realm.

" Me? It's a mistake…" Helena said, looking horrified.

Why would she do the work of the moon goddess? Clearly the woman made a mistake in calling her name.

She wasn't their goddess! She was just a princess!

" Helena… hurry! Your father is losing it!" The moon goddess urged, as she stared in fright at the anger of Lord Kizia.

The man's eyes brimmed with fire and lightning as his eyes were filled with tears at those who betrayed him. How could they team up with that despicable demon to overthrow him and kill his wife?

"I will destroy everyone!" He thundered as lightning struck.

Storms. Whirlwinds. Volcanic explosions. Floods all over the mortal world. They were running and dying. At this rate, there would be no mortal world which means the immortal can not survive for long too.

The energy from the mortals supplies the immortality needed by the people of the realm. If they cease to exist, it won't be long too before the world of immortals completely disappears.

That's what her mother told her. But her father didn't care.

Helena knew she had to do something before it became too late. Taking one last try, she wielded all that she had to save the mortal and immortal world.

As the world listened to her, she slumped to the ground as she clung to the shining object. Her eyes were opened but it was completely different.

She was no longer the Princess she was sometime ago. She just became what she feared to be.

FIVE MORTAL YEARS LATER

"My princess, we need to go to the gathering now. Your father would be furious if he noticed you are messing with those halflings again!"

" Frieda, stop panicking! Just look at that halfling, he is so cute! How old is he in the mortal world?" Princess Helena asked.

" He should be between four or five years old. Isn't he the baby you saved that night with the orb?" Frieda asked, frowning.

" Yes. I can summon him using the orb. Maybe I should visit him in his dreams and… "

But she didn't finish whatever she wanted to say before a loud growl interrupted her and the two girls immediately stood up.

" Ooops! I am in trouble!" Helena said, biting her red lips. Her eyes darted around as she looked for what to do next.

Everyone including herself knew it was bad news to get Lord Kizia angry but what to do? The little mortal was so cute! She wished to behold him every time.

Helena quickly hid the orb and went straight to her room to get ready for the ceremony. She was to find her mate today and all the eligible men were already waiting for her at the river bank.

Being the daughter of the immortal lycan god, Lord Kizia, comes with a price. A price she was unwilling to pay or dance to.

She had always hoped for true love, not a man bound to her through her pendant. The pendant was like a mating bond between every princess of the mystical realm and their mates.

It was placed by the river bank where only her mate could see it. The pendant connects them throughout their lives as immortal. It was also a special soul keeper and only the casters of the princess knew the use.

Angry footsteps came into her room." Helena! Helena!"

Helena heard her father's angry voice but refused to come out. The scolding won't stop if he noticed she hadn't even got dressed for the ceremony!

The bad news was that the immortals would have to face a little… discomfort. She was sorry but if she dared come out, it would be worse.

"If I don't see you by the Riparius in the next five minutes! I am suspending you from all your duties including the orb!" Her father bellowed before stomping off in anger.

Not the orb! How will she see the cute boy if her father collected it? Even if she was going to get her mate today, it doesn't mean she would stop seeing the cute dumpling.

"Frieda, get the maids quickly! I can't risk losing the orb. My happiness is in it," Helena sent a mindlink to her Caster.

As soon as Frieda got the message, she quickly gathered the maids. Urging her numerous maidens, she got dressed as fast as she could so she could flip there before the five minutes was up!

Helena and her entourage got to the Riparius, the assembly of all the immortal princes and the elders were gathered together.

She wondered who was going to be her mate.
