Jade was feeling more relaxed as she walked into her green-themed bedroom with support from her mother. As usual, her mother was late to get her out of the hospital, but she never complained.
Her stay in that sorting hospital room was comfortable enough. She missed her bed, her books, and even her bathroom. Although she felt comfortable in her hospital room like always, she felt more relaxed in her room the most.It was a place where she could do whatever she wanted without judging stares or "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU JADE?" constantly. She sighed at the relaxing softness of her queen-sized bed."Honey, I will be right back okay? Let me fix dinner quickly" her mum said after helping her lay comfortably on her bed, giving her a peck on her cheek quickly almost as though she'd rather not."I want you to know am always here, and you can tell me anything at all, okay?" Says a mother who was too busy with sales to attend to her poor child for twelve straight hours. Jade only nodded her head, lies."Thanks, Mum. "She said softly. "And I love you too, sweetheart", them and her mom left the room, allowing Jade to her violent thoughts.Jade adjusted herself on the bed and stretched her hands and legs, making some cracking sounds, her body was cramped from laying in the hospital bed for so long. She thought back to the time spent at the hospital, it had been like a vacation for her where she would just lay down and food was being brought for her, watching the beautiful sunset at the top of the hospital building, losing herself in the sight of both little and large birds perching the purplish pink sky while eating popcorn like a movie. She wasn't surprised when none of her schoolmates had come to say hi, she wasn't even angry. It just brought her back to her reality, and she didn't expect much. Her mum had delayed for twelve hours before she showed up at the hospital and her dad didn't show up at all, she dug a hand under a pillow and brought out a book she had been reading, she flipped the passages and tried to continue from where she stopped. At least she had a family, others didn't and so she was thankful for hers. She thought of her response to the doctor the other day.She told him she didn't remember anything else apart from stumbling on something and hitting her head, although he didn't quite seem to believe her, nevertheless, he didn't push the issue any further which she was grateful for.She withdrew from her trance and began to think of the boy who saved her. She silently wanted him to return at least once to be able to thank him or at least to know his name. When the doctor came back that day, he came in with a blonde boy who was just as tall as the stranger who had left. For a second she thought he was the one, but the doctor informed her, that he was not the boy who brought her in but he saw the boy leave so he could describe how he looked perfectly. She was disappointed and heartbroken with the news, and the boy's description was impotent too.She wanted to thank the boy badly, but since he left without dropping any form of information or identity, she decided that she was going to forget about it, he would show up at school and reintroduce himself perhaps. There was silence in the room, except for the light clatter of silverware. The McKenzie's didn't talk much while on the dining table. The silence, however, was never a disturbing one, just like this one. It was on a fateful Sunday after church.Jade had her head down as always secretly reading her book under the table while eating bits and bits of the vegetable salad her mum had forced her to eat and which she wasn't enjoying. After two days, everyone had forgotten that she had been hospitalized and everything was back to normal, except for the vegetables she was obliged to eat during dinner. "Having a good time?" Jan teased "No!" was her blunt reply. Her sister smirked and pushed her plate in between them. She continued to eat again in silence as if she had seen nothing. She felt a small jab in her ribs. Why was she disturbing her as though the vegetables were not punishment enough? " she was getting annoyed. She fixed a bored expression on her face and turned to face Jan."Eat" Jan mouthed, then pulled the plate of Mashed potatoes and turkey, closer to her side. She looked at the plate that had steamy turkey in it.Her mouth was getting watery, it probably tasted just as good as it looked, but it was strange, her sister never shared her things, at least not with her. The surprise and confusion was evident on her face.Jan rolled his eyes, "I'm trying to cut some pounds, don't even think about it." She looked disgusted. That explained it, she looked at her sister carefully and surely she had gained weight. She shrugged and pushed Jan's plate back to her without saying a word. Jan scowled at her, they never really had a bond between them. The silence was broken by their mother "Lucas can you please stop trying to steal my food?" She frowned in fake anger facing her husband who was grinning goofily."Can't help it, babe, yours tastes better" He finished with a wink.Jan said "Awn" with stars in her eyes. "Oh, stop it Lucas not in front of the kids". Mrs McKenzie shooed but she blushed like crazy. "Is that a blush I see there?" Her father teased making her blush harder, she buried her face in his T-shirt.Jan burst into laughter joining their father in the mischievous act. They laughed for a while, ignoring her mother's complaint about an ungrateful child following in her father's footsteps. After the laughter had cooled down Jade could not help but wish for a life like that of her parents even though Mum was forty and Dad forty-five, nothing had changed for them. True love never fades away. She thought."You two are so cute together, I want a love like yours" Jan cooed. Their parents smiled fondly at her sister, then everyone turned to Jade. She dropped her fork down when she noticed all the attention was on her with the unsaid question hanging in the air.Jan finally said it out in annoyance."What do want? A family just like Mum and Dad's or to be an antisocial awkward spinster with ten cats" she finished. "Be nice" their mother complained.Jade picked up her fork "I want nothing, " she lied.Jan snorted "Nobody is surprised" She saw the disappointed look on their parents' faces. She wanted to tell them, that all she wanted was to be a cool girl who would fit in and not be bullied, that was all she wanted for now, but no words left her mouth and she continued to chew on her veggies slowly. They were soon in the living room watching a documentary when the doorbell rang "I will get it, " Jade offered hastily, she wanted to get a little air and some space alone without feeling like the odd one out.She strode to the door, with her book in hand, she opened the door just slightly to see if it were anyone suspicious. When she didn't see anyone but just a bunch of Jade green roses and a card on the porch, she opened the door wider as if to usher the roses in.She picked them up. "Wow," she breathed. Such lovely roses. Who could have left them here? She sniffed the flowers again and noted in her mind, that they were her second most comforting and sweetest smell. She opened the small note. A gasp left her mouth as she read it, she hurried down the porch hoping to see the deliverer but saw no one.Not even the black shadow behind her mother's marigold flowers. She read it for the eleventh time before falling asleep that night and never slept better."Stay safe!Goodnight princess :) Yours sincerely Stranger."So it said.Jade sang in the shower that one day, she hated mornings for sure, but she couldn't deny the glow in this particular morning and for once the first thing on her mind was not about school tests. It was about a stranger, a note, and jade green roses. She watched the water droplets roll from her chest to her stomach and down, and then she came back to think of her stranger. "He doesn't hate me. " She said to herself, smiling a little as the words rolled on her tongue, it made her feel strange, she hadn't received any form of care from anyone for such a long time she didn't know how to name it, but it made her want to sing more..."Strange how it feels when I look in the mirrorI see a man with his eyes full of terrorAnd it's something so obvious, but I missed it all in the rushI'm out of the place and it feels so familiarLately, I've been terrified cause-""Hey!" Jade protested as she noticed her music off. "You would think after leaving it on charge for four hours it can play a song
Jade bounced to the front door after parking her car. She waved at the guard standing close to the gate, he seemed surprised but waved back at her hurriedly as though if he wasted a second it would become an illusion. She smiled, pushed the door open and sighed immediately. "Home". She could smell the aroma of baked macaroni, ham, rice and beans, apple crumble cake, and steak as soon as she walked in. Her father was a famous chef and he owned a good number of restaurants around. Her stomach grumbled loudly"Now was that an earthquake?""Hey Dad, " she wished she could run to her father, like a five-year-old, hug him tight, and tell him all about today but who was she kidding? "School better today?" he asked and she hid her blush in her hands as she whispered "I guess.""I want to hear all about it. " He replied. "Not a chance Dad" Jade replied. "Then I guess there's nothing for you here. " Lucas McKenzie said, blowing the air to her nose in an attempt to make her take in the smell m
Last night Adrian did not sleep like usual, he spent half the night thinking of his accomplishments with a girl who drove herself into his life without permission and was beginning to mean something to him. Something he wasn't sure of, he had helped her on three rough occasions. He would occasionally chuckle to himself and think of how he would make her repay him. After all, he didn't do favors for free.He remembered the heat that rushed through his arm as it brushed against her's in the cause of his little scheme to rescue her from some girl who thought she was better than her, hell the imp thought she was better than everyone else. He entered the school hallway, confidently and whistled to nothing, in particular, it was a bad habit he knew and it drew attention to him.He loved the nasty looks the boys would give him for diverting all the girls' attention, and even loved that the girls exaggerated everything making his fellow males red with anger. He wore a proud smirk as he walk
Embarrassed with a bruised little ego, and embarrassed again, that's how she felt. She couldn't even imagine what the tall guy must be thinking about her. Her cheeks heated for the tenth time. The boy chuckled and drew closer to her. She let out a small gasp. The boy was more than beautiful, with dark blue eyes, black hair, and a chiseled face. "Wait, these are strange thoughts," she thought and knitted her brows. "What strange thoughts?" The guy asked. She would have palmed her face for saying that out loud, but her position wouldn't let her. She had been talking to her inner self since she discovered she didn't belong with lots of people save for her family of four with her included, and never had anything slip from her mouth before, so why now of all times? She started to explain or make an excuse, but she stuttered hopelessly and couldn't say a complete word. "What useless mouth," she thought to herself again. The pretty boy barked out in laughter and closed the remaining distan
She shut her car door and walked silently to the school's main door the next day, thinking of her little reality-dream with a pretty boy. She smiled a small smile, the boy had been nothing but kind to her, with no insults, no judging, and more it was not a prank, she didn't see those devil spawns anywhere near clapping their hands together for a job well done. Or maybe it was a two-day prank, maybe he would come back the next day, which was today, to end everything with a massive laugh and insults, when he was sure she was completely fooled, it had happened before with Simone Mallory, who was best friends with, Thomas Jefferson. No! She refused to be played that easily and promised herself not to fall for anything, be it pranks or anything else. She was still in the middle of a very important conversation with her inner self, when she felt a harsh tug on her arm sending her butt first on the floor. She groaned painfully, and for the hundredth time, she was more than convinced this s
Jade could hear birds chirp one after another like piano tunes, the trees rustled, and she already began to imagine a beautiful scenery behind her closed eyelids. She felt relaxed much more to her confusion. Just some minutes ago she had been collecting a series of insults, dirty slaps on her little ego, and mockery. It seemed like it got worse every day. Every day her attackers seemed to grow bolder and did more brutal things to her.She ran into a chiseled hard wall and apart from that she didn't know anything else. Could it be that she hit the wall so hard that she fell unconscious again? Or oh God, had she died? The thought had brought a bitter taste in her mouth, she thought of all her unaccomplished goals, Like the essay, she hadn't finished it yet, she hadn't even submitted Mr Finley's assignment from the day before. She didn't even say goodbye to her mum, dad, Jan, or even pretty boyShe hadn't even stood up for herself in front of anyone, to prove herself yet. She had reaso
"Why were you running earlier?" Adrian wanted to ask but focused on something else, the beauty before him, she swept living breath out of him when he first stepped into the room. She wore a white silk resting cloth that left no room for exposed feet. He had asked his house help Emma to change her clothes into something comfortable because he doubted she would sleep well in such big clothes. Although the dress was very long and covered her feet, he knew her feet were bare and he found that attractive. Her beautiful brown-red hair, scattered beautifully around her face and down her shoulders, looked like rubies in the dim light that shone through the window. Her skin looked silky and he wondered if it'd feel the same under his palms, but it was just a wandering thought, he could see her cherry-red lips part, from where he stood and he wanted to stand next to her. Then, like a child's dream, a little bird flew to her and perched atop her head, the curtains swirled with the soft breeze
Jade sat in the back of the school library, which was isolated. Most of the students somehow never came to the library until it was time for exams and some hard tests, just like today. They didn't know which exams would be hard but some were bound to be hard like 'Miss Grace's. Miss Grace, was in her late fifties, she was single with no kids and extremely scary, the woman could make the whole school tense, and she made half of her students look like zombies. She taught AP literature, English, and French. Somehow she managed to be a part of everyone's class. The woman was so strict and cruel, her tests were the hardest of them all and to top it all, she had a permanent scowl on her, more scary than Annabelle Hopper. With the exams coming, every corner of the school was starting to get quiet.Jade shivered at the thought of being in her class for forty minutes it was a good thing school was finally coming to an end and she couldn't wait. It was lunchtime and she was hungry but didn't da
