"Yes, I was just asking how everything went between you and Sophie back there."She straightens back up. “Look, I know you’re her father and you’ll get her the best treatment available, but even the best therapy isn’t going to work unless she has a good emotional support that she can use to build a solid foundation for healing. That means a person that she always feels like she can rely on. If that’s not her mum and that’s not you, since you’re away for work so much, you need to figure out who it will be. If you want it to be me, well, I don’t know what it will do to her if she opens up to me and then I’m gone in six months. Alistair's POVAlistair waits outside the hospital room when the ringing of the phone in his hand catches his attention. He takes a deep breath before answering it. “Hello?”"When were you going to tell me about Sophie?" Liliy demands.Alistair can't help but chuckle. Look at her acting all concerned.“Don’t act like you care enough to know what’s going on in your daughter’s life, Liliy.” The words spit from his mouth like venom.She doesn’t say anything for a while, until Alistair hears her new amour, Gareth Grant, say, “Darling, Sophie is with her father. You don’t need to worry about her.”Inside, Alistair aches, his heart breaking over the pain Liliy has put Sophie through. Alistair's POV“I told Sophie that she was going to get a new nanny, but you’re going to have to make your own mark,” Alistair says to Varisa, still trying to compose himself as much as he can while leading her down the hall at St. Benedict Children's Hospital.Although he cannot tell her so, Varisa's presence has accidentally made him feel better. Liliy was the only person he ever felt like he could be himself with, and after their divorce, it was like nobody ever understood him again. His parents blamed him for the whole situation, as they never liked Liliy in the first place. It's been a while since the presence of another person soothed him.He wonders what Liliy is doing right now. He had asked the hospital to keep any visitors from him or his daughter, so hopefully she won’t disturb them during this process.
