Chapter 1

Right before entering the forest, I yanked hard on the reins of my horse and stopped it in place. Then, without hesitation, I took off Winnie Sullivan’s moon-white cloak.

Not long after I hid the cloak and stepped away from my mount, hurried footsteps sounded behind me. Xavier Long appeared beside me almost instantly, but the moment he realized it was me, he abruptly took a step back.

“Agnes? Why are you here?”

I knew exactly who he was looking for, so I met his gaze calmly and said, “That’s right. I’m the only one here, but if you head to the Moon Rite Forest now, you might find Winnie.”

Xavier froze for a second, suspicion flashing through his eyes. Whenever I saw him in the past, I would shamelessly cling to him. This was the first time I had ever pushed him toward another she-wolf.

I was in love with Xavier. Everyone in the pack knew it. For years, I followed him everywhere like his shadow. He never once drove me away. Instead, Xavier allowed me to stay by his side.

That was why, in my previous life, when we finally formed a mate bond, I truly believed we loved each other. I never knew the person he truly loved was my stepsister. So, this time, I chose to step aside. I would let them have their happy ending.

As I watched Xavier disappear into the forest, I finally let out a sigh. My back was already soaked with cold sweat, and my palms were freezing. This time, Xavier would definitely save Winnie, and the tragedy from my previous life would never happen again.

Soon, deafening wolf howls erupted from the direction of the Moon Rite Forest. It was the sort of sound only made when a werewolf of a high-ranking bloodline unleashed its aura. Birds exploded into flight across the mountains, and even the horse beside me instinctively lowered itself to the ground in fear.

My steps faltered. It felt like my heart was being wrenched out of my chest. Even though I had decided to let him go, my body still trembled instinctively whenever I felt Xavier’s presence.

When I returned to the temporary gathering grounds, the area was already packed with pack members. Xavier stood in the center of the crowd. Blood still stained his tall frame, and several tears ran across the silver-gray cloak draped over his shoulders. A fresh wound split across his left arm, deep enough to expose bone.

Yet, in his arms, he held someone securely. It was Winnie. Her face was pale as she leaned weakly against his chest, clutching tightly at his clothes, as if she had just survived a nightmare.

Gasps spread through the crowd.

“Rogue wolves?”

“If the Alpha heir hadn’t arrived in time, Miss Winnie probably wouldn’t have survived…”

“Xavier actually tore apart the Alpha of the rogue pack to save her!”

Voices of admiration rose one after another.

Meanwhile, Xavier lowered his head to look at Winnie, and for once, the cold sharpness in his eyes softened into unmistakable tenderness. I had seen that look countless times in my previous life. It just had never been meant for me.

I lowered my gaze and quietly turned to leave, but Winnie suddenly spotted me.

“Agnes!”

She struggled out of Xavier’s arms and ran toward me. When she stopped in front of me, she deliberately tilted her neck.

On the pale skin at her throat was a faint wolf bite mark. It was a temporary scent mark left by a high-ranking male wolf driven by extreme possessiveness and protective instincts. Although they had not formed a true mate bond, it was more than enough to claim someone publicly.

My eyes widened in shock, yet Winnie acted as though she noticed nothing. Her smile remained soft and innocent.

“Thank you for telling Xavier where to find me. He got there just in time and saved me from the rogue wolves.”

Then, she paused and deliberately glanced back at Xavier, unable to hide the smug satisfaction in her eyes.

“Agnes, you’re not upset with me, are you?”

The surrounding noble she-wolves all turned toward me at once, their gazes filled with curiosity and mockery.

Everyone in the pack knew I had pursued Xavier for three years. Everyone believed I would become the future mate of the Alpha heir. Yet now, he had risked his life for Winnie instead. This humiliation hit me like a slap across the face.

Winnie stepped closer and lowered her voice so only the two of us could hear.

“Do you see it now? The man you’ve pursued for so long only needs one crooked finger from me before he loses his mind. The things you desperately want have always come effortlessly to me. So tell me… what exactly do you have to compete with me?”

  • Never Let You Go   Chapter 9

That day, the Northern frontier was struck by a once-in-a-century blizzard, with winds that cut like knives. Biting wind whipped snowflakes against him, covering his hair and shoulders in thick layers of frost. The once-mighty Wolf King, who had always stood above all others, now looked like a lost lone wolf—worn down and stripped of all his former sharpness. When the servants brought the news to me, I felt nothing. I merely found it absurd. It had only been a few months separated by a few borders. The man who once looked at me with undisguised disgust, who found even my presence repulsive, and who trampled my sincere feelings underfoot without a second thought, had now humbled himself completely, kneeling for three days and three nights in this biting cold, just to see me.I sent word outside the city walls, my tone cold and firm. “I have formed a mate bond with Kane. I don’t want to see him. From this day on, he and I are over.”However, Xavier refused to leave. He stayed at the g

After Xavier was driven out of the Sullivan family estate, he returned to Moonshadow Estate like a soulless shell, numb to everything around him.Instead of heading to the main hall, he instinctively walked toward the small side courtyard where I used to live. Some part of him still believed I would be waiting there. He raised his hand and pushed open the worn wooden door. Seeing the cramped, low-ceilinged room inside, he felt a sharp pang in his heart. How had he never noticed it before? I had lived in such a humble place for so long, yet I had never uttered a single complaint.Xavier slid down the wall and sat on the floor. Memories of the past flooded back in an instant. He recalled casually giving me a string of wind chimes made out of beast bones. I had been so happy that I jumped for joy. However, back then, he hadn’t cared. He simply looked at me with a sneer and gave me a cold, dismissive glance. He recalled my birthday, when he gave me a Moonlight Stone pendant—his first

The next morning, Xavier quickly treated his injuries. Without delay, he took the prepared proposal and rushed straight to the Sullivan estate.Winnie was bored out of her mind, but when she heard that Xavier had arrived, her eyes immediately lit up.“He must be here to form a mate bond with me.” She smoothed her hair, unable to hide her pride. “I told you he was going to come around and win me back.”She hurried out to meet him, wearing a bright smile.“Xavier, your injuries haven’t healed yet. Why did you come personally?”However, Xavier didn’t even spare her a glance. He walked straight into the main hall.Winnie followed behind him, feeling secretly pleased with herself. She was already planning how she should appear properly reserved in front of Mother later.Mother stepped out from inside the hall. Her expression was cold as she looked at Xavier. She asked plainly, “What brings you here, Lord Xavier?”Xavier took out the proposal contract from his chest and handed it ov

However, he didn’t have to wait long to understand the answer. That night, a piercing, anguished howl suddenly echoed outside the estate. A large pack of rogue wolves launched a surprise attack on Moonshadow Estate under the cover of darkness. In an instant, the entire estate fell into chaos.Xavier shot up from bed. In the dark, his silver wolf eyes gleamed with an almost blinding intensity. His Alpha instincts kicked in immediately, but his first reaction was not to protect Winnie in the adjacent courtyard. Instead, he ran straight toward the western annex.Only one thought filled his mind: I was there, and as a low-ranking she-wolf, I must be terrified. He must quickly shield me behind him.He slammed open the wooden door of the western annex, only to find that the room inside was empty. Nothing was there. He froze, and only then did he realize that I was already gone.A guard rushed up behind him, out of breath. “The western annex is empty. Miss Agnes has–”“I know.” Xavier’s

In the days that followed, Xavier became increasingly volatile. Even the servants around him could feel the shift in his temper. When they moved through the hall, he would snap at them without warning. “If you have nothing to do, go back to your rooms. Do you need to wander in front of me all the time? Are you trying to make me more irritated?”At mealtimes, even the food on the table became a source of frustration.“Can’t you change the menu? Why is it always grilled pork chops?”The servant kept their head lowered, feeling deeply aggrieved, and muttered under their breath, “We’ve only had it once this week…”Even when noble daughters came to visit the estate, just being led into the hall was enough to put him in a foul mood. Now, the moment he caught the scent of any unfamiliar Omega, an inexplicable irritation would overcome him.He didn’t understand why. All he knew was that he had long grown used to the warm, sweet scent of jasmine that lingered around me, though he had neve

Shocked and overwhelmed, Winnie was kept at Moonshadow Estate under Xavier’s direct orders. He specifically instructed the servants that no werewolves were allowed to approach her, ensuring she could rest and recover in peace. As for himself, he also remained in his quarters to recover from the injury on his hand.On the first day, he asked the servant, “Where is Agnes? Has she admitted her mistake yet?”The servant lowered his head respectfully and replied, “Miss Agnes is on her knees outside the estate. She’s been covered by wind and snow. Would you like us to bring her inside?”A faint look of satisfaction appeared on Xavier’s face, but his voice remained cold as he said, “No need. Keep her on her knees.”After a pause, he added, “Keep her out there for one more night before you bring her in… Also, tell the kitchen to prepare hot water and have the cooks prepare a stew.”The next morning, Xavier didn’t even consider his own unhealed injury. The first thing he did was summon a s
