Sitting on her front porch Cheyenne looked out at the lightning in the distance. A cold front had already set in making it nice for a Texas summer night. She didn't really know what to do with herself. Most nights she would have already started drinking, maybe even gone with friends to a club but not tonight. She was trying to keep her promise to Nick. Why? Hell, she didn't know. She didn't know why she did half of what she did anymore.
Seeing her phone ring Cheyenne smiled seeing Miranda's name pop up on her screen. She hadn't seen Miranda since they had graduated. "Please tell me you are in town," she answered.
Miranda laughed, "girl, unfortunately. Tell me you want to come with me to Johnson's. He is supposed to be having a party and there is no way in hell I'm going alone."
She knew it was a bad idea, she knew she would run into Kyle and way too much drink to imagine but she wanted to hang out with Miranda. "Yeah, you want me to pick you up, or do you want t
Cheyenne could hardly sleep. Normally after she drank she passed out the moment she hit her bed. Tonight, well tonight her thoughts were on Nick. Nick and only Nick. Was he mad at her? Disappointed was more like it. She couldn’t believe she had actually called him. She sighed, she would never sleep thinking about seeing him later. She had missed him far more than she had thought possible. Far more than was healthy for a fling. Was this infatuation. She hadn’t known him long enough to call herself in love.
This time it was Nick unable to sleep staring up at the ceiling fan. Cheyenne was cuddled up beside him fast asleep but his mind would not turn off. He wasn't even positive why. After Cheyenne's surprise visit in the shower and the following rounds in the bed, they had both gotten up and cleaned up before getting dressed. Cheyenne had helped him change the sheets on his bed and had even gone and started the wash for him while he found them something to eat for supper.Nick had ended up cooking steaks on the grill. He had been craving them and she hadn't cared. The grilling had only reminded him of Ed's upcoming 4th of July BBQ. It was a yearly tradition, one he couldn't avoid. One she couldn't avoid. He wondered what it would be like to see her, be so close to her, but have to ignore her.Neither had brought the BBQ up, even though it was only a day away. Sure they ignored each other at work when others were in the office but he could go to his office and shut h
Cheyenne had gone through every emotion possible by morning. She had done everything but sleep last night. Her mind was so confused and she felt as if she had missed out on something huge.No matter how many times she tried to tell herself she didn't care. How many times she told herself Nick didn't matter. It never worked. Somewhere in the short time, they had together she had fallen for him.The sun had barely broken the horizon when she called her dad telling him she didn't feel good and wouldn't be in. She knew that even though he told her ok that he was worried that she was hungover. She needed to be hungover but instead, she was buried in her covers unwilling to move.Nick hadn't slept much that night either. Cheyenne's face, her disbelief followed by disappointment and hurt wouldn't let him have peace. He told himself he had done the right thing. That he was better off ending things now. He sounded like a broken record.Nick had no clue how t
Nick was grateful when his weekend to have Tate rolled around. He had already done a weekend alone and it hadn't been easy. Cheyenne had been ignoring him completely, and he had limited his time in the office keeping it to a bare minimum. It did make him feel bad, being out of the office so much but the truth was he couldn't face her. She pretended he didn't even exist most days. When she needed to tell him something she would put a sticky note on his desk, even if he was there. The couple times he asked her if she wanted anything for lunch when he was actually there she would shake her head no without looking up. It was torture.Ed had only added to his guilt by commenting on how she seemed upset about something. He had figured she was having "boy problems". Nick only shrugged, it's not like he could tell him that Cheyenne was actually mad at him.Nick had begun to think that she had started back drinking heavily again. She came in some mornings looking hungove
Cheyenne woke up to a dark room and a massive headache. As her eyes adjusted to the dark she tried to remain as still as possible. Slowly the room focused in and she realized that the arm around her was Nicks. She closed her eyes piecing together the bits and pieces she remembered from last night.Groaning she remembered slapping him. She remembered yelling at him but not really what she said. Her eyes widened as she noticed she was naked in the bed. Had she slept with him? How could she have forgotten that?Feeling her stomach lurch Cheyenne pulled the covers back about tripping over the towel that slid down her body as she stood. Jesus, she knew not to mix her drinks and last night she had drank whatever she could get her hands on. It was obviously a bad idea, hell she didn’t even remember driving to Nicks. She barely made it to the toilet before her stomach began trying to remove all of the toxic poison she had ingested. With one hand on the toilet and
Cheyenne awoke this time to the sun glaring in Nick's room making her headache seem 100 times worse. She rolled over finding the bed void of Nick but her cell phone in his place. Reaching out she saw she had a missed text from him so she opened it wondering if the feeling in her stomach would ever go away.Nick had written, "took Tate fishing. He wants to stay another night but I doubt his mom will let him. I have water and some more medicine on the nightstand. Try to get up and eat some toast or some crackers, nothing heavy. Don't leave, I need to talk to you. And I kind of have your keys so you can't leave."Cheyenne rolled back over seeing the bottle of water and an Excedrin bottle. Sitting up she took the top off and swallowed two pills before sending him a text back. "That was kind of a bitch move. If you are only going to give me reasons why this will never work I'll save you the trouble and walk home."Nick responded faster than she had thought he would,
It was an unspoken agreement. They both knew that sex was the only possible outcome after their talk. If they were completely honest they would admit it was the only thing they really wanted now anyway. Both knew that they had accomplished nothing in their talk. They had avoided all the issues they needed to talk about but neither cared. Their bodies craved the other and who were they to deny what they both needed the most.As Nick locked the house down and made sure the dogs were settled in Cheyenne walked to his bedroom. Walking in she removed his borrowed clothes and crawled in the bed naked enjoying the feel of his cool sheets on her body. Shaking her hair free she let it fall between her shoulders in the front to cover her breast as she sat back against his headboard and awaited him. Her nerves were getting the best of her even though she had no idea why. At least she pretended not to know why.Nick walked into his room pausing as he saw her. He felt as if h
When Nick’s alarm went off he groaned not wanting to get up. He had stayed up far too late into the night. Cheyenne curled up beside him, “call in,” she mumbled.Nick laughed, “don’t you think it would be suspicious if we both called in?”Cheyenne shook her head, “maybe but who cares.”“Your dad,” Nick said kissing Cheyenne’s neck.Cheyenne rolled her eyes, “ugh why do you always have to be a buzz kill.”Nick sighed sitting up, “cause one of us has to be logical.”“And just what are you implying Cheyenne looked up at Nick as he stood up and headed to the bathroom.Nick shrugged not looking back at her, “nothing.”Letting out a sigh Cheyenne pulled the covers over her head. “Nick,” she whined.Nick stuck his head out the bathroom door with a toothbrush in hand shaking his head when he saw Cheyenne tucked
